The Fairbanks Ranch Country Club, a private, member-owned club in San Diego’s affluent Rancho Santa Fe community recently sold for an undisclosed price, according to CBRE. The country club, on land owned by the City of San Diego, was built to host equestrian events for the 1984 Summer Olympic Games.

The club’s championship golf course was designed by Ted Robinson, and his son, Ted Robinson Jr., and added a third nine in 2004. Other recreational amenities include a croquet court and eight tennis courts, five of which are lighted for night play. There’s also a 33k SF upscale clubhouse and 5k SF tennis clubhouse.

CBRE repped the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club members in the sale of the club to The Bay Club, a California-based active lifestyle corporation. The Bay Club, which focuses on fitness, sports, hospitality and family, acquires established golf and country clubs near their existing locations. The Bay Club will offer Fairbanks Ranch members reciprocal privileges at their sports resort in nearby Carmel Valley and plans to spend $6M on swim and fitness facilities at Fairbanks Ranch. The Bay Club has more than 20 locations in California with more than 86,000 members and 3,400 employees.

“Fairbanks Ranch is a renowned private country club in one of the most affluent communities in Southern California and this transaction is the result of cooperation between the club members, The Bay Club and the City of San Diego,” says CBRE EVP Golf & Resort Group managing director Jeff Woolson, who handled the transaction.
