George Chopivsky III President, FORTIS

George, a native Washingtonian and Yale grad, started his career in NYC in tech and healthcare private equity. He came back to DC in 2001 because he thought real estate was more fun. During the next 12 years, he worked as a Donohoe development director and started the Mid-Atlantic regional office for a national apartment REIT. George, who's married and has a 22-month-old daughter, launched FORTIS in 2013 and has primarily focused on urban-infill multifamily. Its pipeline includes: a recently completed 27-unit condo project in Columbia Heights; a 42-unit project in NoMa/H St; a 32-unit project in Logan Circle; and a 30k SF office building near DHS’ future HQ. Best lesson: Reputation and perseverance are key in this industry.
