The planned DC United stadium at Buzzard Point has a confirmed architect, one District sports fans will be very familiar with. Populous, which designed Nationals Park, has been chosen to design the region's first soccer-only stadium. The initial renderings, above, were released as part of the announcement, but many of the design details have yet to be determined, the Washington Post reports. Populous, based in Kansas City, MO, also designed Camden Yards in Baltimore, the ballpark frequently credited with ushering in a new era of creatively designed, intimate parks, as opposed to the monoliths of previous eras like Shea Stadium in Queens. The stadium will be designed to intimidate opponents, according to DC United's owners, but will mesh with the surrounding Southwest DC neighborhood. [WaPo]
