Work has started on the second phase of a significant renovation of the 645-room luxe resort The Phoenician near Camelback Mountain. Last summer the property undertook a redesign of its casitas and all its guest rooms, as well as renovations at The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician.

During Phase 2, a number of common areas are being reworked, the Phoenix Business Journal reports. The lobby will be fitted with personalized welcome desks to assist with check-in, and the concierge desk will be relocated. At the pools there will be more seating and VIP areas and a new waterslide, and The Shops at The Phoenician will be redesigned. The Centre for Well-Being will be replaced by The Phoenician Spa, a three-story facility that will feature 24 treatment rooms and a rooftop pool.

Il Terrazzo restaurant will be reconceptualized as Mowry & Cotton, and Afternoon Tea Court will be repositioned. There will be refurbishments to The Thirsty Camel.

The property was originally developed by real estate mogul Charles Keating Jr. in the late 1980s (before he went to prison). Maryland-based Host Hotels & Resorts acquired the property in 2015 for $400M, and it is now operated by Marriott International subsidiary The Luxury Collection. Representatives of the owner and operator declined to disclose how much the renovation will cost.
