YESTERDAY WITH NYBC & RELA

Yesterday, Bisnow joined 950 of our closest building and construction industry friends for the New York Building Congress' 88th Anniversary Leadership Awards Luncheon at the New York Hilton.
NYBC president Dick Anderson kicked it off by thanking departing MTA chief Lee Sanders for his dedication and service, and by urging attendees to make sure that the MTA's five-year capital plan remains adequately funded. He praised them for a "can-do spirit and vision," which he says will get New York out of these tough times.
Luncheon chairman Larry Silverstein of Silverstein Properties and NYBC chair Stuart Graham of Skanska USA; Larry narrated a video focusing on the honorees' leadership in a challenging environment.
Port Authority executive director Christopher Ward (right, with STV Group's Dominick Servedio), received an award for his involvement in PANYNJ's 10-year, $30B program to expand its capacity, with projects like the World Trade Center rebuilding and PATH rehab.
NYBC also honored NYC School Construction Authority president Sharon Greenberger (right, with NYC Department of Education deputy chancellor Kathleen Grimm), citing her leadership in modernizing the city's 1,200 schools through a five-year, $13.1B capital plan. We spoke with some of her colleagues, who told us that the SCA is ready to open 22 new schools in September.
We don't usually show people twice, but Stuart's first photo was with legendary Larry Silverstein, so your gaze might have wandered. Other honorees pictured: Tishman Construction's John Tishman, who won the Jack and Lewis Rudin Award for Industry Service to NYC, and Columbia University president Lee Bollinger. The NYBC honored John not only for his contributions to the industry, but for his charitable work with institutions such as Carnegie Hall and the New School. It also noted Lee's forward thinking with Columbia's Manhattanville campus expansion project. (More photos)
