MOONLIGHTING MAGILL; A NEW NRC

New York City is known for actors biding time as waiters, but how about as brokers? We caught up with Sierra Realty Corp.’s Blanche Baker Magill, who recently joined the firm with Coldwell Banker Hunt Kennedy colleague Marianne Thorsen, focusing on building sales and office leasing.
Look familiar yet? You may remember the Emmy-winning actress as sister Ginny opposite Molly Ringwald’s Samantha in Sixteen Candles, and starring alongside Meryl Streep in Holocaust, among others. Actors are natural real estate execs, Blanche tells us, and she began showing buildings in between gigs. With four children, she found that independent films weren’t paying enough, so she found her niche in commercial real estate, where women are seriously underrepresented, she says.
Bring back memories? Blanche recently closed on a Page Ayres Cowley Architects’ 2.5k-SF 10 E. 33rd St. office. She’s also been showing many buildings, mainly to foreign investors, who have a lot of money on the sidelines, she says. But this doesn’t mean she’s given up her other art: real estate allows acting flexibility, and she's been spending time in Saugerties filming for an independent movie produced by Jim Henson’s daughter-in-law Gyongyi Henson, calledWhisper Me a Lullaby, starring John Heard.
