By that we mean Mayor Mike stole the show yesterday by joining the groundbreaking of Extell Development's International Gem Tower at 50 W. 47th St. With him: Extell SVP Raizy Haas and prez Gary Barnett. Skidmore Owings & Merrill designed (and Tishman will build) the 34-story tower as an international center to meet the needs of the gem and jewelry trade. Gary expects it will create over 1,000 jobs in the short-term, as well as numerous permanent positions in the industry. A diamond in the rough economy.
