Skid Row will not be getting its own neighborhood council.
Empower LA's preliminary results from the special election show 826 voters were against forming the council, compared to 764 voters in favor.
Supporters of the council said Skid Row needs more facilities for its homeless residents, including subsidized housing and public bathrooms, the LA Times reports.
The Downtown LA and Historic Cultural neighborhood councils currently represent the area.
Voting took place last Thursday in DTLA and online, KPCC reports.
The final, official results are not expected until later in the week.
