The first segment of California's controversial $68B high-speed rail project will break ground in Fresno tomorrow. The train has faced seemingly endless pushback since voters approved funding in 2008. Gov. Jerry Brown has spearheaded the effort on the bullet train, which at build-out (should that day ever come), could transport people from LA to S.F. at more than 200 mph.
The 29-mile stretch will run from Fresno to Modesto in the Central Valley, though the California High-Speed Rail Authority already has renderings for the LA area, including above in Burbank. Despite work starting, the project still faces significant financial hurdles. If completion remains on schedule for 2028, it could be more than 50% short on funding.
