The old Casa Malibu Inn, which dates back to the 1950s, is scheduled to open next week under the Nobu Ryokan brand.
The Japanese-inspired hotel, Nobu Ryokan Malibu, will feature rooms with shoji screens and teak soaking tubs under skylights near Malibu’s Carbon Beach, Curbed LA reports.
The two-story, 9,200 SF hotel has 12 suites and five oceanfront bungalows.
The hotel is designed by Studio PCH, Montalba Architects and TAL Studio. Nobu Malibu next door will provide in-room dining for guests.
Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison paid $20M when he bought the Casa Malibu Inn a decade ago.
This hotel marks the first for the Nobu Ryokan brand, which is owned by Ellison, Robert De Niro, Chef Nobu Matsuhisa and film producer Meir Teper.
Rooms at the new hotel are expected to go for $1,100/night with a two-night minimum.
The opening date is April 28.
