The Cecil Hotel at 640 South Main St in DTLA may soon be in line for a special designation.
The LA Cultural Heritage Commission voted unanimously Oct. 20 to consider bestowing Historic-Cultural Monument status on the more than 90-year-old hotel.
New York's Simon Baron Development plans to spend about $100M to do a reno of the hotel, now known as Stay on Main.
It will include 301 micro-apartments and a boutique hotel.
Simon Baron applied for the historic designation, the LA Downtown News reports. The firm has a 99-year ground lease on the property signed with the building's owner, 248 Haynes Hotel Associates.
The building features a Beaux Arts exterior and was designed by architect Loy Lester Smith.
A final vote on the hotel could take place in December. [LADN]
