TMZ fell down on its job last Thursday, completely missing a major celebrity happening as NY-based financier Simon Ziff and wife Hope breezed into Santa Monica for the evening following a week of feverish biz meetings around LA. Ackman Ziff has recently rolled out a new California presence in both SF and SoCal, doing not just the big deals it's known for but even "small" ones, Simon says, like this week closing a single tenant acquisition loan in Beverly Hills for $19.5M for a longtime client. As for the romantic picture, Simon explains: "I decided to combine a business trip with wifie dinners, as the only one of our kids who's home is safely working at Bisnow for the summer, and we don't focus on the middle child anyway."
