MIT canceled plans for the redevelopment of Metropolitan Storage on Mass Ave in Cambridge into student housing.
The transformation of the property, which is a 250k SF brick structure built in 1894, would be too technically challenging.
The school will build dorms elsewhere and try to find another use for the castle-like building, the Boston Globe reports. MIT bought the building in 1966 and leased it back to Metropolitan, which closed it last year as a storage facility. [Globe]
