Developers are looking to add a 300-room hotel to a tucked-away stretch of Back Bay.

Boston-based H.N. Gorin Inc. and Masterworks Development want to redevelop the two-story, 7K SF 39 Stanhope St., home to Asian restaurant Red Lantern, into a 240-foot hotel tower, according to a letter of intent filed with the Boston Planning & Development Agency. The proposal is between a Flour Bakery & Café and the Friendly Toast and near the Back Bay MBTA station.

While the LOI did not include the name of the proposed hotel, Masterworks Development is known for building Club Quarters Hotels. Group One Partners would design the hotel, which would have no parking.

The more-than-124K SF proposal is shorter than the maximum 356-foot height allowance for the property, but real estate attorney and former Boston City Council President Larry DiCara said the plan fits in with the surrounding area.

“This is a very unique site. Many of those buildings are low-rise buildings, so that would suggest it’s an appropriate transition to Freida Garcia park in front,” he said. “It’s straddling the Back Bay, South End and even Bay Village. There are different neighborhood groups to deal with.”
