Global Finance Tennis Players Square Off in First 'Finance Cup'

While America was waiting for Djokovic and Federer to face off in the US Open finals, a group of Wall Street's heavy hitters—both in global finance and in tennis—had their own Grand Slam tournament. On Saturday, Team Wall Street played Team Europe in the first ever "Finance Cup." The tournament was organized by New York-based investment banker and "Mayor of New York Tennis" Jeffrey Appel and London-based portfolio manager David Anving. It was originally supposed to be at the New York Athletic Club's outdoor tennis courts in Pelham, but was relocated to Randall's Island because of inclement weather. Included on Team Wall Street was former No. 7 ranked Mario Ancic, who has beat Federer at Wimbledon, and now works at Credit Suisse. Team Wall Street ultimately came out on top with an 8-1 victory, including Bill Ackman's victory over Cevian Capital's Christer Gardell in the battle of the activist investors.
