The Landmark Sears Building In Santa Monica

The Santa Monica Sears is set to close in April, and a mixed-use project will be built in its place.

The 100k SF store at 302 Colorado Ave in downtown Santa Monica has been open for 70 years, the Santa Monica Daily Press reports.

Sears Holding Corp's Seritage Growth Properties presented tentative plans last year to Santa Monica's Landmarks Commission. The Sears Building became a landmark more than 20 years ago.

The former Sears Auto Building across the street had already been torn down in preparation for the Expo Line station.

The new adaptive reuse project would maintain the historic character of the building. [SMDP]
