Good news for tourism and the need for more hotels in DTLA: a 53-story hotel is being proposed across from the LA Convention Center in South Park.

The developer, TriCal, filed plans with the city last week and plans to bring 1,024 hotel rooms to the area with this project.

The hotel, which would be built at 1300 South Figueroa St., would replace a TriCal apartment building at the southeast corner of Figueroa and Pico, Curbed Los Angeles reportsGensler would be the architect.

The tower would consist of two hotels, operating separately with restaurant space on the ground floor and a rooftop bar.

Construction may not begin until three to five years from now.

Another upcoming hotel in South Park, the Cambria Hotel, is being developed by Pacific Property Partners.
