Skanska USA Commercial Development

Robert Ward is president & CEO of Skanska USA Commercial Development, which develops customer-focused, highly sustainable office, mixed-use and multi-family properties across the United States. As CEO, Robert is responsible for setting strategic direction - with focus on growing Skanska’s development operations in its existing markets and exploring expansion opportunities while improving operational effectiveness and efficiency.

Robert has held a number of leadership roles since joining Skanska in 2002, including Chief Operating Officer for Skanska USA Commercial Development, the Executive Vice President of development operations in Washington, D.C., and the EVP of development operations in Houston. He has managed more than $2 billion in projects in gateway cities across the country and in 2019, he successfully stood up Skanska’s first commercial real estate development division in Los Angeles, CA.

Robert serves on the Board of Trustees of the Federal City Council and the Board of Directors of the First Tee of Washington, D.C. He is a member of the Economic Club of Washington, D.C., the Virginia Tech Program in Real Estate Emeriti Board and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of Skanska Commercial Development Europe. Robert is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Anthony J. “Tony” Fiorillo assumed the role of President of ECS just recently on April 15, 2020,

after being promoted from his latest position as COO and working his way through the ranks

starting back in 1993 as a Field Technician. Tony holds both an MBA and Masters of Civil

Engineering, and serves on the Board of Directors for NAIOP Northern Virginia and is Vice Chair

of Membership for the ACEC D.C. chapter. His engagement with many other commercial real

estate associations such as CREW, ICSC, ABC, AGC and the American Hotel and Lodging

Association provides him with a diversified network of peers, friends and colleagues in the

industry in which he serves.

In his free time, Tony enjoys spending time with his wife and three children and looks forward

to re-engaging with his children’s sports teams, post-COVID!

  1. There are a number of tenants across the country that are having difficulties paying their rent right now. As a developer, and owner in some instances, how are you managing those leases given the pandemic? What are those conversations like?

  3. As the leader of a highly interactive and customer-facing business, how have you navigated this situation and the remote working environment? How have you navigated this situation and the remote working environment?

  4. How are you managing your under-construction developments, in both cities that still encourage construction and in those that have paused development?

  5. What is your overall outlook for the U.S. economy, and how long will it take to recover? How long do you think it’ll take the market to recover from the ongoing pandemic?
