Steve Newberry serves America’s broadcasters as Executive Vice President, Industry Affairs and

Strategic Planning for the National Association of Broadcasters. Based in Washington, DC, NAB is

the premiere trade organization representing America’s radio and television stations and

television networks.

Steve began his career as a broadcaster at the age of 14 and owned his first radio station at 21. He

eventually co-founded and led Commonwealth Broadcasting Corporation; a radio broadcast group

with facilities throughout his home state of Kentucky. It was during his years with Commonwealth

he first became engaged with the National Association of Broadcasters as an active member.

As an NAB board member, Steve served as Radio Board Chair, NABPAC Chair, and was eventually

twice elected to lead America’s broadcasters as the Joint Board Chairman of the National

Association of Broadcasters.

He chaired the Authority for Kentucky Educational Television (KET) for five years and served two

terms as a member of the national board of trustees of America’s Public Television Stations (APTS).

Steve is a past-president of the Kentucky Broadcasters Association (1993) and is a member of the

KBA Hall of Fame. He received their Distinguished Kentuckian Award in 2009.

He previously served on the board of directors of Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) and as a member of

the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) executive committee. He is a member of the International

Broadcasters Idea Bank and was the named the 2013 Outstanding Alumnus from the University of

Kentucky College of Communications and Information.

He received his BA in telecommunications from the University of Kentucky.

Barbara joined Perkins Eastman as a studio leader in Washington, DC in 2013 bringing with her an expertise in strategic planning, organizational strategy, talent development, and outcome based management for projects of all scales. In 2015, she joined the firm’s Board of Directors, and is now the Managing Principal in Washington, DC – Perkins Eastman’s second largest office. As a local and international leader, she is responsible for actively supporting and strengthening the firm’s mission and values through consistent communication and participation with clients, support organizations, and philanthropic associations.

Through her collaborative leadership approach, Barbara has maintained a focus on producing creative and innovative solutions for her clients. She builds inter- and intra- organization teams that effectively work together to share information, make decisions, and solve problems to achieve mutual goals. Barbara has lead the design and management of numerous high-profile projects for clients such as Marriot, WeWork WeLive, Global Holdings, and World Bank. From large, complex projects to the most intimately scaled spaces she brings clarity of vision, consistency of intent and focus on purpose.

In addition to her expansive portfolio of work, Barbara is committed to leadership through service and has been recognized for her philanthropic and community engagement. She serves on the Executive Committee and Membership Committee of the Federal City Council, is a member of the Economic Club of Washington DC, and the International Women’s Forum. In her commitment to bringing the arts into our daily discourse she has served on the Board on the National Symphony Orchestra and is currently Vice Chair of the Maryland Youth Ballet Board. She has earned service awards that include Washington Business Journal’s CEO Leadership in Philanthropy, and the Corporate Award from the March of Dimes Heroines in Technology. Guided by her passion for mentorship, Barbara has dedicated much of her career to fostering the growth of those around her. Whether participating in events such Learn From the Best with ULI Washington’s Young Leaders Group, or clearing a path for our work force’s next generation, her commitment to every individual’s personal and professional growth has made her the leader she is today.

Shawn Seaman

Shawn Seaman joined Hoffman & Associates in 2001 and currently leads the acquisitions and development activities for the company. Since 2006, Seaman has acted as Project Director for The Wharf, where he has managed the development team and all aspects of the project development, including design, entitlements, financing, and implementation. Seaman is a LEED®-AP certified professional and leads the company’s sustainable design initiative. Seaman has more than 20 years of project experience in real estate development, urban design, town planning, architecture, and retail strategy, with projects throughout the United States.

Seaman holds a degree in Architecture from the University of Miami, and a master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Design from the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a real estate design and development certificate in conjunction with the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Seaman is a registered architect in the state of Florida and the District of Columbia.

Sherry Cushman has spent her nearly 30-year career exclusively advising tenants in the legal sector throughout the United States. She is headquartered in C&W’s Washington, DC office and travels the country working with law firms to develop long-term business and real estate strategies that support and fulfill their strategic business goals and objectives. Ms. Cushman’s focus is on implementing real estate solutions that closely integrate her clients’ business, financial and operational goals with a focus on profitability impact for single, multi-office and large portfolio users alike.

As leader of C&W’s national Legal Sector Advisory Group, Sherry coordinates the group’s initiatives, national benchmarking, as well as serves as a Thought Leader and Chief Strategist to C&W law firm clients. The Legal Sector Advisory Group consists of over 100+ highly sophisticated law firm real estate advisors, who draw on multi-disciplinary teams of C&W professionals, to deliver strategic solutions specifically tailored for the legal industry.

Ms. Cushman has represented law firms in over 12 million square feet of law firm prime lease, lease restructures/renewals, build-to-suits and base building negotiations. During her career, she has been the lead broker and/or team member in representing the real estate portfolios for numerous global, national and regional law firms.

In 1985, Ms. Cushman began her career in commercial interiors, designing interior space for law firms. She transitioned her career in 1993 to commercial brokerage, specializing in tenant representation and incorporating her design expertise into developing real estate strategies for her clients. During her 30-year tenure, she served for nine years as a Corporate Managing Director at Studley and founded the company’s Law Firm Practice Group. She then spent a decade at CBRE as a Senior Vice President and was one of five founding members of its Law Firm Practice Group. Sherry’s tenure and extensive expertise provides her clients with unparalleled service and legal sector knowledge.

Scott Franklin is a Senior Vice President of the JBG SMITH leasing team in downtown Washington, DC that is responsible for leasing an office portfolio in excess of 5 million square feet, including development sites and third-party assignments. Since joining JBG SMITH in 2017, Scott has contributed to the success of numerous projects, including two recent office developments at 1900 N Street and 500 L’Enfant Plaza. In addition to leasing responsibilities, Scott works closely with the acquisition team in identifying and evaluating commercial office purchase and development opportunities throughout the DC metropolitan area. Prior to joining JBG SMITH, Scott was a Senior Director at Tishman Speyer for over 10 years also focusing on the downtown portfolio including the development and leasing of projects including 1100 1st Street, 1099 New York Avenue and 2000 K Street. He is active in several local real estate organizations including serving as a board member for CREBA as well as the Jubilee Support Alliance. Scott earned his bachelor’s degree in Public Policy from Duke University.

Michael Abrams serves as Managing Director. In this capacity he is responsible for executing the investment strategy for value-add and development projects in Maryland, DC, and Virginia across all product categories. Michael has more than 30 years of experience in commercial real estate development and investment, and has been a principal in the construction or acquisition of over two million square feet of real estate.

Mr. Abrams holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Johns Hopkins University and a Juris Doctorate from Washington College of Law at American University.

Greg Fitchitt joined The Howard Hughes Corporation (HHC) as Vice President, Development in 2013. In 2014 Greg relocated to Maryland to focus on the development of Downtown Columbia, a 14 million square foot mixed use development plan to transform the suburban town center of the acclaimed master planned community into a 21st century urban village. Most recently Greg led the efforts over the past 2 years resulting in the Howard County Council’s approval in November 2016 of a $90 million TIF for public infrastructure and a comprehensive plan for affordable housing in

Downtown Columbia. Before joining HHC, Greg completed nine shopping center redevelopments as a developer for Westfield on the west coast, including leading the development efforts for Westfield UTC in La Jolla, CA, obtaining entitlements for a $1.0 billion LEED Gold mixed-use revitalization, and completing the $180 million first phase in 2012. Together the Westfield projects completed under Greg’s direction represented

over $530 million in investment. Greg holds a BA in Philosophy from Pomona College and an MBA from UCLA. In addition to his professional activities, Greg served for ten years on the boards of non-profit affordable housing developers in California. He currently serves as president of the

Downtown Columbia Partnership and on the Howard County Chamber of Commerce board. Greg lives in Ellicott City with his wife Cristiane and their two young children.

Mark is vice president for CDUS in the Washington metro area. His responsibilities include the pursuit, acquisition and execution of development projects. He oversees project development teams and supports the executive vice president/area manager in growing Skanska’s development business throughout the region.

Mark has more than 20 years of industry experience and has worked with site acquisition, site planning, design, development, construction management and the disposition of income-producing properties. He previously served as regional director of development for JPI, a national development firm. Mark’s development experience includes land, office, retail, multifamily and hotel development projects, primarily in the Washington and Baltimore markets.

Mark holds a Masters of Architecture degree from The Catholic University of America and a Masters of Engineering Management degree from The University of California at Berkeley.

Blair is President and Chief Executive Officer of Colonial Parking, Inc., the largest provider of parking management services in the Washington Metropolitan Area, with 275 operations and over 1,100 employees serving 110,000 parkers each day. He has over 36 years of experience in the industry, including risk management, marketing, and operations, as well as strategic planning and execution. Andrew, who received his B.A. from the University of Virginia, takes an active leadership role in numerous municipal, community, and professional organizations, including serving as past Chair of the Board of Children’s National Medical Center Foundation, past Vice Chair of the parent Board of Children’s National Medical Center, past Chair of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, past Chair of the National Parking Association, and Board Member of the Washington Parking Association. Chris Hoffman is the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regional preconstruction leader for DPR

Construction, one of the top technical builders and 10 th largest general contractor in the U.S.

(ENR 2019). Chris has spent his career helping guide customers towards the commercial office,

data center, healthcare facility or laboratory space they need for the budget they have. He also

spent time as a Project Manager for DPR’s Mid-Atlantic Headquarters Office in Northern Virginia,

which has received many awards from organizations such as AIA, ENR, NAIOP and IIDA.

Chris graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brown University with a ScB in Civil Engineering

degree. This has driven Chris to understand how the functional requirements of his customers in

each market sector drive everything from the construction costs and schedule to the pro forma

Steven A. Grigg is President and Chief Executive Officer of Republic Properties Corporation, and was a co-founder with Mr. Kramer. Previously, Mr. Grigg served as Senior Vice President of Western Development Corporation and he was a partner with Mr. Kramer before founding Republic Properties. Successful completion of several major development efforts by Western in the Washington, D.C. market are attributed to Mr. Grigg’s ability to successfully negotiate and resolve issues critical to public private partnerships; most notably Market Square, Washington Harbour, Republic Square and The Portals.

Prior to joining Western Development in 1985, Mr. Grigg was Vice President of Development for Blake Construction Company, where he was responsible for a variety of office and other projects. Stephen D. Evans is a 25-year veteran of the real estate business and a native Washingtonian. Over his career, Steve has developed and acquired investments on the East Coast totaling more than $1 billion and asset managed over 2.5 million square feet. His breadth of real estate activities has been extremely wide ranging — investing in development, value-add and core asset classes. Steve developed the first “big box” retail project in New York City, a Costco on Staten Island that he still owns with partners, and has acquired assets in greater Washington, D.C., Raleigh, Nashville and Atlanta.

Currently, Steve runs the Washington, D.C. office of Rubenstein Partners, a fund manager with about $1 billion in invested and committed capital, and is responsible for spearheading acquisition and asset management efforts in the greater Washington, D.C. area – from Baltimore to Richmond – and also covers Nashville. This is Steve’s “second tour” with Rubenstein, as previously he ran development for its predecessor company.

Prior to Rubenstein Partners, Steve has held senior management positions with several national and regional investors, such as KBS, Lowe Enterprises and Carr Properties. Steve graduated from Vanderbilt University.

Anthony Chang is the Managing Director for Stream’s Northern Virginia Office. Prior to Stream, Anthony was a Vice President at WashREIT where, among his accomplishments he co-founded its flexible office program Space+. Throughout his career, Chang has executed or advised on over $800 million in lease transactions. He serves on the boards of NAIOP Northern Virginia, Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Fairfax County Economic Advisory Committee. Prior to joining Lantian, Bob held leadership positions at Washington REIT, Clark Enterprises and JBG and he has developed more than two million square feet of commercial, multifamily, retail and mixed-use development in the Washington, DC region with total development value in excess of $1 billion.

Aakash Thakkar joined EYA in 2004 as a Development Executive and now is a Executive Vice President for Acquisition and Development with EYA. His responsibilities include overall project stewardship, new deal sourcing and acquisition, site selection, and project development through the design and governmental and community approval process. Mr. Thakkar is a member of and guest speaker for the Urban Land Institute and the District of Columbia Building Industry Association. He is a member of the Smart Growth Recognition Award Jury, the Riverdale Park Mixed-Use Town Center Committee, and of the Hyattsville CDC Board. He was a member of the Obama for American Mid-Atlantic Finance Committee and a co-founder (along with his wife) of the Thakkar/Giallourakis Scholarship Fund for St. John's College High School. Mr. Thakkar has a BS in Accounting and Political Science from LaSalle University and holds both an MBA and a Masters in City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University. Mr. Thakkar is a native Washingtonian.

James oversees the strategy, performance, and long-term value creation for Federal’s Florida, Maryland, and Midwest properties, comprising over 6 million square feet of retail and office GLA and approximately 1,500 residential units. This portfolio ranges from dynamic mixed-use developments like Bethesda Row, CocoWalk and Pike & Rose to highly productive neighborhood centers like Garden Market and Wildwood. Beyond portfolio management, James leads investment committee presentations and internal financial reporting to Federal’s executive management team and, when required, its Board of Trustees. He also oversees property acquisitions and dispositions, as well as tenant relations, and constructively manages joint venture relationships.

As FOX Architects’ Design Principal, JP oversees the design direction and vision across all disciplines, including architecture, interiors, and integrated projects. Elevated to the American Institute of Architects’ prestigious College of Fellows, JP’s work has been recognized on a national level for its unique contribution to the profession and society. He has pioneered the sustainable practice of building recycling, a topic on which he has lectured nationally. In over 30 years of professional practice, JP has created more than 13.2 million square feet of corporate build-to-suit, commercial and institutional architecture, his projects having been featured in national and international design publications.
