Mr. Michael Crawford is the Associate Dean for Strategy, Outreach, and Innovation at

the Howard University College of Medicine and Founding Executive Director of 1867

Health Innovations Project. Mr. Crawford serves as a strategic advisor to the Dean of

Howard University College of Medicine and Vice President of Clinical Affairs and

collaborates with medical science, health, academic, and HU Board leadership to

advance Howard University’s academic, health, and innovation mission.

Prior to Howard University, Mr. Crawford served as the Chief of Staff at Unity Health

Care, Inc., one of the largest health center networks in the United States. Prior to

Unity, Mr. Crawford held leadership positions at Johnson & Johnson,

GlaxoSmithKline, and Gannett Company. Mr. Crawford brings expertise at the

intersection of operations, strategy, digital health, data, innovation, and program

development.

Mr. Crawford serves on numerous national and local committees, including a Member

Dr. Daniel J. Durand, MD serves as the enterprise Chief Clinical Officer for LifeBridge Health, an

integrated delivery system based in Maryland serving approximately 1.5 million patients with 3+ million

annual encounters.   Dan is the founding leader of the LifeBridge Health Clinically Integrated Network

(LBH CIN), which has grown over the past five years to manage over 150,000 lives in value-based

contracts with CMS, CareFirst, Johns Hopkins, Cigna, Aetna, and others.  Dr. Durand is dual boarded in

adult and pediatric radiology and also serves as the system wide Chair of Radiology for LifeBridge.  He

has held several enterprise leadership roles for LifeBridge, including Chief Innovation Officer and Vice

President of Research.  Prior to LifeBridge, Dan held leadership roles with Johns Hopkins Medicine and

Evolent Health, and earlier in his career he worked as a consultant with McKinsey & Company.

Joseph Ochipinti is the CEO of UnitedHealthcare Mid-Atlantic Region and has been in this role since early 2019.

Ochipinti brings over 25 years of health care and financial services experience. As CEO of UnitedHealthcare-Mid Atlantic, he is responsible for UnitedHealthcare’s Employer & Individual business driving growth, quality, profitability and overall performance for health benefit plans that serve more than 2.8million UHC members in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and District of Columbia. He is based at UnitedHealthcare’s Columbia, MD office.

Prior to 2019, Ochipinti served as CEO of United Healthcare Gulf States Region (LA, MS, AL) for a little over 3 years. Prior to 2016, Joe served as Chief Growth officer for3 years in the Southeast Region, responsible for sales and membership growth, profitability and account management. He also developed and executed business plans for Small Business, Key Account, Public Sector, Specialty and Individual Exchanges.

Previously, Ochipinti was Vice President of Sales of UnitedHealthcare’s Employer & Individual Gulf States Regionfrom 2009 to 2013, and from 2007 to 2009 he led the company’s medical, pharmacy and specialty product strategy in the Southeast Region.

Ochipinti has servedon the American Heart Association Heart Walk National Executive team since 2015and serves on the local and regional boards of the American Lung Association (ALA). In 2013 he advocated for the eventual passage of Smoke Free New Orleans, which made all workplaces throughout the city smoke-free.He serves on the Economic Council Executive Board and the local March of Dimes Board in DMV.

Joe is a graduate of LaSalle University in Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial Public Relations. He received his Master’s Degree from Webster University School of Business & Technology in St Louisand is a graduate of the Wharton’s School of Business seven-month UnitedHealth Group Executive Development and General Management Program. He and his lovely wife Deirdre, have been married 15 years and have two wonderful children, Alec 11 and Kate 6.

Courtland Wyatt, a veteran of the United States Army, served during the Gulf War in

Operation Desert Storm. While in the military, he earned recognition as the

Distinguished Honor Graduate of his class. Following his military service, he obtained a

Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Howard University and a Doctorate of

Physical Therapy degree from Alabama State University.

Courtland has distinguished himself by becoming an innovative and successful

entrepreneur. He started his own real estate investment company, Wyatt Realty, LLC,

which had property assets of up to $10 million in its real estate holding portfolio. This

venture led to the creation of a rehab outsourcing company Called Ergo Solutions, LLC,

in which he is a 25 percent stakeholder. The company specializes in providing

outsourcing PT, OT, and SLP to hospitals and nursing homes in the DC area. Ergo

Solutions has become the largest outsourcing rehab company in Washington, DC.

Courtland oversees a staff of over ninety employees and generates sales of over $8

million annually. He is also co-owner of Ergo OccMed, an outpatient physical therapy

clinic in Oxon Hill, Maryland, established in 2010.

In addition to launching numerous successful business ventures, Courtland is the

Treasurer of a national organization—The American Academy of Physical Therapy—a

non-profit that is helping to eliminate health disparities in low-income communities

across the US. AAPT programs include scholarships, mentoring, health/wellness, and

educational resources. Dr. Wyatt is also on Corporate Huddle’s Board of Directors. This

organization helps retired professional athletes interested in starting their own business

become acclimated to entrepreneurship.

Dr. Wyatt is a published author, sought-after speaker and seminar presenter both in the

US and abroad. He also speaks at conferences and leadership development retreats, and

often serves as an adjunct professor at Howard University, George Washington

University, and Montgomery Community College, in their respective PT departments.

Brian has led design teams in the development of complex projects varying in scale, from new design and construction to the expansion and renovation of hospitals, medical office buildings, specialty hospitals and cancer centers. Brian’s passion for the rigorous integration of user experience into design is evident in his award-winning work. Over the course of his career, he has moved from designing buildings to developing processes focused on client’s specific project goals. J. Mike Bellamy is the Executive Director, National Facilities Services, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan

delivery system that includes 45 ambulatory care facilities, 8 administrative buildings, 1 data center and

strategy. J. Mike has over 30 years of public and private sector facilities experience. He’s led major

projects and program that result in capital improvement for owners located in the United States and

internationally in Europe, Africa, UAE, Central America and the Caribbean. He has been involved in the

planning, design and construction of healthcare facilities and nearly every other building type to include

major cultural facilities like the Smithsonian Institution’s $500M National Museum for African American

History and Culture located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. J. Mike earned a bachelor of

science degree in civil engineering from the Virginia Military Institute and master of science degree in

building construction management from Purdue University. He’s a registered professional engineer in

the State of Virginia and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and American Society of

Healthcare Engineers.

In her role as CEO, Naseema Shafi works to implement the strategic vision, goals and initiatives of the Board of Directors. She leads and supports the growth and oversight of the health center with a focus on the provision of high-quality, affirming care that centers the community and maintains the vitality of Whitman-Walker. Prior to her current role, Shafi served as both the Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer for Whitman-Walker as well as its Director of Compliance, overseeing various matters related to corporate compliance and risk management. Shafi joined Whitman-Walker in 2007. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park and her law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law. She is a member of the Maryland State Bar. In 2016, Shafi was honored as a Minority Business Leader by The Washington Business Journal

Will Stann is a 20-year seasoned executive in commercial construction

with extensive experience in project management and delivery. In his

role as a Project Executive, Will leads the Healthcare and Life Science

Markets at Forrester Construction. He has delivered new or renovated

medical office buildings, ambulatory surgical centers, proton therapy

cancer treatment centers, hospital wings and more. His background in

civil engineering enables him to be an effective liaison and team member

with project architects, engineers, and owners. His expertise lies in

making the client’s vision come to fruition through effective contract

administration, scheduling, estimating and budgeting, subcontractor

coordination, software management tools and other various project

logistics. He is well attuned to the challenges and opportunities that

arise with healthcare projects, particularly those in occupied facilities.

Matt Sullivan joined Cushman & Wakefield in 2009 and has more than 15 years of commercial real estate experience. He leads the firm’s Mid-Atlantic Healthcare Advisory Practice, providing strategic advisory and brokerage services to physician practice groups, hospital systems, investors in healthcare real estate, insurance providers, pharmaceutical and biotech companies both regionally and nationally. Roberta Tinch, MHA, FACHE, is President of Inova Mount Vernon Hospital and System Administrator

of the Musculoskeletal Service Line. Roberta is an accomplished healthcare executive with more than

a decade of experience leading hospital operations and employee relations, while developing

physician partnerships that have enhanced team engagement and the patient experience.

She currently oversees the Inova Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, VA. The hospital offers

emergency services, inpatient and outpatient surgery, diagnostics, inpatient behavioral health. In her

role as Administrator in the MSK Triad, she works with a physician and nurse partner to oversee the

entire portfolio of Orthopedic and Rehabilitation services for the Inova Health System. This role is

responsible for clinical quality, patient experience, and strategic growth.

Prior to joining Inova, she was Chief Operating Officer at HCA Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond,

VA, a 300-bed hospital with complex service lines such as Comprehensive Stroke Center, Robotic

Surgery Center of Excellence, Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Inpatient Rehab. Her previous

roles include Chief Operating Officer at HCA Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center in Spotsylvania

County, VA, and Associate Chief Operating Officer at HCA Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon,

FL.

Roberta has a strong commitment to communities in which she lives and works. She holds several

Board and Leadership seats with the University of Mary Washington’s College of Business Advisory

Board, Families Forward of Virginia statewide board, Mt. Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce, and is

the Vice Chair for the Northern Virginia Urban League. She has done extensive volunteer work with

Guided by his deep background in analytics and lean operations, Bob is passionate about creating innovative and forward-thinking strategies and Enrich the Lives, Enhance the Value and Ensure the Future of his clients and the communities they serve. Bob’s expertise includes strategic organizational development, market and operational analysis, clinical process of care design, programming and planning, financial pro forma, capital allocation analysis and design. His efforts have helped health systems improve quality, decrease operational costs and effectively plan for the future. Bob serves as the National Healthcare Practice Leader for Trinity:NAC a global healthcare ideation and design firm with offices in Columbus, Los Angeles, Seattle, Spokane and Shanghai.

Dr. Cherry received his doctorate in Biology with a concentration in Biomedical Science from The Catholic

University of America in 2008 and his Master of Science in Biotechnology from The Johns Hopkins University in

2000. In his dissertation research, Dr. Cherry studied molecular changes in ovarian tumor progression, and

identified several biomarkers that proved useful in early diagnosis of this disease that often eludes detection until

it has reached a very advanced stage. He joined QIAGEN Inc. in 2008 as a research fellow in their Gene Expression

Laboratory where he studied the role of miRNAs in various disease states and identified novel miRNA targets in

phosphodiesters in collaboration with the Center for Cancer Research at NCI. Following his fellowship, he was

promoted to a research scientist in QIAGEN’s research and development laboratory, where he proceeded to work

on QIAGEN’s genomic characterization platform, miScript, for miRNA detection, low and high-throughput miRNA

molecular profiling platform. In addition, he developed the automated applications for Q-PCR gene expression

miRNA/mRNA molecular profiling kit and supported the marketing applications to the biomedical research

community. This new product generated $6.8 million net sales in year one for QIAGEN Inc. in 2010. He was then

recruited back to the NIH/NCI in 2010 to become a Scientific Program Director and Assistant Project Officer of the

Advanced Technology Program (ATP), and the Contracting Officer’s Representative, level III, for the Operational

Technical Support Contract for the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) and the National Institute of Health’s Division

of Intramural Research community. The ATP/CRTP is currently a $17million program that provides state-of-the-art

advanced technologies to the NIH principal investigators, postdoctoral and clinical fellows at NIH/NCI and other

federally funded research institutes. In 2011, Dr. Cherry co-developed a $4 million technology development arm

for the ATP/CRTP directorate. This program was established to promote a collaborative environment with the NIH

intramural community to develop innovative technologies in all areas of biomedical research including genomics,

proteomics, imaging (subcellular and cellular), nanotechnology, genetically engineered animals, veterinary

histology/pathology and bioinformatics. In 2013 his responsibilities pivoted from the ATP/CRTP to the Laboratory

of Animal Science Program (LASP). During his governmental oversight of the LASP, he has successfully

implemented and launched the NCI’s Gnotobiotic operations, Genomic Modification Core and the HIV reservoir

laboratory and continued the development of the LASP technology development effort. In 2018 Dr. Cherry

launched the first Biotechnology Fellowship at the Frederick National Laboratory for trainees looking to move their

career to biotech and pharm arena. Dr. Cherry currently serves as the scientific advisor for all high school,

undergraduate, graduate and capstone students at the NCI at Frederick campus. In 2021 Dr. Cherry was selected to

become the chief of NIAID’s Research technologies Branch and the Associate Director of Research Technologies

within NIAID. There he established an interdisciplinary resource that provides investigators access to leading-edge

technologies and specialized expertise that are fully integrated to study complex biological questions. The first

initiative launched in year one was the Integrated Data Sciences Section, IDSS. This program focuses on providing

scientific consultation, training, on computational and data science support through manuscript preparation. In

2022 Dr. Cherry was named chief of operations for the Center for Human Immunology Inflammation and

Autoimmunity, where he worked in full collaboration with the newly established scientific advisory board to

increase the visibility and accept 46 projects during his three-year tenure from 16 total from 2008 to 2021. Dr.

Cherry has been appointed to several scientific advisory boards representing NIAID/NIH for various universities in

the state of Maryland and currently serves Chair of Board of Governors for Shepherd University. Dr. Cherry has

been an associate professor at Hood College’s graduate program since 2017 and currently an adjunct professor at

Mount St. Mary’s University graduate program where he teaches Biomedical Ethics, Introduction to Cancer

Biology, Cell Biology, Protein Biochemistry and Advanced Technologies Genomics and Proteomics applications.
