His technical and executive acumen were honed through a 25-year career as a U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps officer, serving in various impactful assignments such as; Navy Legislative Fellow to the Senate Majority Leader; Vice President, Global Public Works with Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC); Director, Navy Task Force Energy coordinating energy strategy development across all major Navy Systems Commands, and; Project Executive for the $1B expansion of the National Naval Military Medical Center at Bethesda.

Mitch has leveraged these foundational experiences in creating exceptional value within the healthcare sector, in various executive real estate assignments with Kaiser Permanente and ultimately, as Senior Vice President, Real Estate and Facilities for Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health. Over a four-year timeframe, Mitch completely transformed Jefferson’s real estate and facilities (public safety) into an industry leading enterprise shared service, driving $250M in value extraction across the entire spectrum of facilities management services delivery.

Mitch is a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia, graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (BS Industrial Engineering) and University of California at Berkeley (MS Civil Engineer/Construction Management) and has completed executive management and leadership programs at Tuck School of Business (Dartmouth) and the Harvard Business School.

Michael Abrams serves as Managing Director. In this capacity he is responsible for executing the investment strategy for value-add and development projects in Maryland, DC, and Virginia across all product categories. Michael has more than 30 years of experience in commercial real estate development and investment, and has been a principal in the construction or acquisition of over two million square feet of real estate.

Mr. Abrams holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Johns Hopkins University and a Juris Doctorate from Washington College of Law at American University.

MedStar Health President and Chief Executive Officer Kenneth A. Samet is responsible for a

$5 billion not-for-profit, healthcare delivery system. With more than 30 years of experience in healthcare administration, Samet provides strategic oversight and management for MedStar Health—the largest healthcare provider in Maryland and the Washington, D.C., region, comprised of 10 hospitals, a comprehensive network of health-related businesses that include research, ambulatory, home health, and a large multispecialty physician network, and several insurance products with more than 170,000 members. In addition, MedStar Health is one of the region’s largest employers with more than 31,000 associates and 4,700 affiliated physicians, serving more than half-a-million patients and their families each year. Additionally, MedStar has a longstanding partnership with Georgetown University, serving as their Medical Education and Clinical Partner.

From 2003 to 2008, Samet served as president and chief operating officer of MedStar Health, and prior to that, served as the system’s first chief operating officer since MedStar’s inception in 1998.

Samet has dedicated his career to health care. He received his master’s degree in health services administration from the University of Michigan in 1982. Samet served as president of MedStar Washington Hospital Center, one of the nation’s largest tertiary care hospitals, in the District of Columbia from 1990 to 2000. From the mid-1980s to 1990, Samet held a variety of leadership positions with the Medlantic Healthcare Group, which merged with Helix Health in 1998 to create MedStar Health.

Samet is presently a member of the board of directors at Georgetown University, the Greater Baltimore Committee, the Economic Club of Washington, United Way of the National Capital Area, and Goodwill of Greater Washington; and serves on the Executive Committee of the board of the Greater Washington Board of Trade. He has held leadership positions on the boards of the American Hospital Association (AHA), District of Columbia Hospital Association (DCHA) and Maryland Hospital Association (MHA) and served on the board of visitors for the University of Maryland School of Nursing. Samet is also a past board member and chair of the Academic Affairs Committee of the Old Dominion University Board of Visitors, where he received his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1980 and an honorary doctorate of humane letters in 2012 following his commencement address to the school’s graduating class. In 1996, the American College of Healthcare Executives named Samet the national Young Healthcare Administrator of the Year. Most recently, Samet was honored with the Anti-Defamation League 2015 Achievement Award, which recognizes leaders who have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to justice, pluralism and understanding.

Kurt Newman

Kurt Newman, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer, is a surgeon and a recognized leader on pediatric health issues, nationally and in Washington, D.C.

Since becoming CEO in 2011, he has fostered a culture committed to advancing care and research by putting patients first and actively championed innovations in research, operations, and clinical care. He has forged creative and productive partnerships with other health systems in the region, with government and community entities and with industry, at the local, national, and global level. He is also a strong advocate for expanding mental health access for kids and has led two national forums on this issue.

Dr. Newman joined Children’s National as a surgical fellow in 1984, becoming the Surgeon-In-Chief and Senior Vice President for the Joseph E. Robert, Jr. Center for Surgical Care in 2003. He was instrumental in developing the vision for the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation at Children’s National, inspired by the audacious goal of making surgery for children minimally invasive and pain free. When the Institute was made possible in 2009 through a transformational $150 Million gift, Dr. Newman served as its Founding Vice President.

Currently Dr. Newman serves as the Chair of the Children’s Hospital Association Leadership Committee on Advocacy and Policy and as a member of the Board of Trustees. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the District of Columbia Hospital Association and a member of the Commonwealth Council on Childhood Success in Virginia. In addition, Dr. Newman serves on the Board of the Economic Club of Washington, Greater Washington Board of Trade, Federal City Council, DC Chamber of Commerce, and Fight for Children. Previously, he served as a Board Member of Commissioners of The Joint Commission, a member of the Board of Governors of the American Pediatric Surgical Association, and as Chair of the Surgery Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Newman is a Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Public Health. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his medical education at Duke University. He completed his surgical residency at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and also served as the Arthur Tracy Cabot Fellow at Harvard Medical School.

He is the author of Healing Children, A Surgeon’s Stories from the Frontiers of Pediatric Medicine, available in June 2017 from Penguin Random House.

Since joining the organization in 1983, Knox has led Inova’s evolution from a collection of small, stand-alone hospitals into the award-winning health system, nationally recognized for clinical excellence, innovation and outstanding patient care. Inova’s comprehensive network comprises hospitals, outpatient services and facilities, primary and specialty care practices, and health and wellness initiatives. Under Mr. Singleton’s stewardship, Inova is now a leader in genomics and personalized health, which uses an individual’s genetic make-up to predict and prevent disease.

With his leadership and vision, Mr. Singleton has proactively pursued a paradigm-shifting strategy of health promotion and optimization – anticipating and preventing illness. In keeping with Inova’s community service mission, Mr. Singleton is an active member of organizations that improve lives both here and abroad. Additionally, he is co-founder and past president of the Community Coalition for Haiti, which creates community-driven solutions in healthcare, education, and community development in Haiti.

Mr. Singleton is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 1970. He received his Master’s degree in health administration from Duke University in 1973. He holds honorary degrees from Northern Virginia Community College and Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY. He is married to Dr. Tracy Fitzsimmons and together they have seven children.

Richard O. Davis, Ph.D, is president and chief executive officer of Sibley Memorial Hospital. Dr. Davis was appointed to his current office in June 2012. Prior to joining Sibley, Dr. Davis was vice president for innovation and patient safety for Johns Hopkins Medicine, executive director of the Johns Hopkins Medicine Center for Innovation in Quality Patient Care and of Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Access Services and director of The Johns Hopkins Hospital’s East Baltimore Ambulatory Operations. He serves on the boards of trustees of Johns Hopkins Homecare and Johns Hopkins Pediatrics at Home. A member of the faculty of both the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health Division of Health Policy and Management and the Business of Medicine program of the university’s Carey School of Business, Dr. Davis has spent more than a decade teaching graduate level courses on leadership, organizational behavior and quality in medical settings. He also regularly provides consultation services on leadership, quality, efficiency, cost control, patient safety and related issues to public and private health systems both nationally and internationally. Dr. Davis joined Johns Hopkins in 1994 as manager of administrative and building services. He was named administrator of the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and its surgery and special procedures units in 1995; senior director of The Johns Hopkins Hospital Admitting department in 1999; and senior director of the Hopkins Health System’s ambulatory services, practice management and quality improvement, administrative fellowship program and operations integration in 2001. Dr. Davis received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Michigan, a master’s degree in education from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in health policy and management from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Brian Hawkins

Mr. Brian A. Hawkins was appointed Medical Center Director, Washington DC VA Medical Center September 25, 2011. With more than 2,200 employees, over 90,000 Veterans enrolled for care and a budget of more than $450 million dollars, Mr. Hawkins leads one of the largest and highly visible medical centers in the nation. In addition to the main hospital, Mr. Hawkins is responsible for the Community Resource and Referral Center for Homeless and At-risk Veterans (CRRC) and five community based outpatient clinics in Washington, DC; Fort Belvoir, Virginia; and Greenbelt, Camp Springs and Charlotte Hall, Maryland.

Mr. Hawkins began his career at Chicago's Hines VA Medical Center as a Clerk/Typist. His career demonstrates continuous advancement through leadership positions which include; Medical Center Director at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Associate Director and Chief Operating Officer of the VA Maryland Healthcare System and Associate Director and Site Manager for the Perry Point VA Medical Center. He has also held positions of authority at the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System, Atlanta VA Medical Center and Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Mr. Hawkins holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences from Southern Illinois University and a Master of Health Administration from Governors State University. His unique leadership style was recognized by Veterans Health Administration (VHA) naming him 2012 "Communications Visionary of the Year". He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Senior Executives Association, and the American Pilot and Aircraft Owners Association and has been an Adjunct Professor at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. A Veteran himself, Mr. Hawkins served eight years in the Illinois Army National Guard.

Mr. Fischer has held various leadership positions in investment management within the healthcare industry since 1986. Prior to joining Trammell Crow Company in 2005, Mr. Fischer led his consulting practice, Fischer Advisory Partners, through the development of a national healthcare energy platform for US Power and also worked on services syndication for the private funding initiatives of hospitals in the United Kingdom and Germany.

Currently, Mr. Fischer serves as Chairman Emeritus for the Urban Land Institute’s Healthcare & Life Sciences Council, as well as numerous Board and civic groups.

W. “Gill” Wylie is President of Johns Hopkins Medical Management Corporation, and is

responsible for the development, finance, leasing, operations and program

management for all of Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Healthcare and Surgery Centers in

Maryland.. Under a succession of ascending positions, Gill has held these

responsibilities since 1992. Gill’s current portfolio of projects includes Johns Hopkins

Medicine at Green Spring Station, White Marsh, Columbia, Odenton and various other

suburban locations.

The first and largest Health Care and Surgery Center, opened in 1994 is Johns Hopkins

at Green Spring Station. which is comprised of 225,000 square feet of medical

services, including an primary care, specialty care, an ambulatory surgery center, and

a full spectrum of diagnostic imaging services Johns Hopkins Medicine at Green

Spring Station serves more than 500,000 patient visits per year from the BaltimoreWashington

region.

Gill began his career with Johns Hopkins Medicine in 1985. His early responsibilities

included market research, marketing, capital budgeting, strategic and long term

planning, program design and implementation, departmental administration of both

Psychiatry and Oncology, and then directing the clinical operations for 220 inpatient

beds for the Department of Medicine.

Prior to coming to Johns Hopkins, Gill spent three years at Georgetown University,

where, as a Program Associate, he assisted the Project Director in monitoring two

national grant programs of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the High Risk Young

People’s Program and the Community Hospital-Physician Practice Program.

Gill was born and raised in New York City as one of five children. He graduated from

Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, in 1978, with a BA in Design; and, then

from the University of Pittsburgh in 1984, with a Masters in Public Health. Gill married

Mary Anne Styka in 1988. Gill and Mary Anne have two sons: Gill, who is a sophomore

in the International Affairs program at George Washington University; and, Henry, who

is a junior at Archbishop Curley High School.

Gill completed the Baltimore County Leadership Program in 2000, and among many

other professional and community boards, he has served on the Board of Directors of

Howard County General Hospital since 2007. In his free time, Gill and his family enjoy

community service, travel and sports.

Mr. Weinstein is the senior leader of Children's National Medical Center, responsible for the strategic planning and development of all clinical, research and administrative expansions and renovations at the hospital's main Sheikh Zayed campus, as well as all remote ambulatory clinic locations in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia (approximately SO locations). He also has primary responsibility for the hospital's development of a new 12 acre campus, formerly known as The Walter Reed Army Medical Center & Army Pathology Institute, and repurposing that parcel to expand the clinical and research enterprise of Children's National.

Jennifer Harrington is vice president of Clinical and Support Services. Jennifer oversees laboratory, environmental, security, radiology, rehabilitation, pharmacy, respiratory, engineering, construction management, performance improvement and food and nutrition services.

Before joining AAMC, Jennifer was vice president at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore, responsible for rehabilitation, radiology, sleep services and multispecialty outpatient services.

Jennifer holds a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology and Sports Management from West Virginia University, and a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland at Baltimore.
