Cathy Reines is an original founder and owner of kōz as its President, CEO & Board Chairman. Cathy is responsible for the overall financial reporting of the Company, coordinating construction and permanent financing options, investor reporting and relationships, community relations and overseeing implementation of the business plan.

Prior to joining kōz, Cathy was the President & CEO of a Seattle-based micro-housing development, construction and property management Company. Cathy has held partner positions in national, regional and local CPA firms and has held both CEO and CFO positions at SEC reporting community banks. Cathy has spoken at a number of real estate conferences as well as historically been a regular speaker at various national and local banking conferences. She has served as a board member for regional and state-wide banking associations.

Cathy holds a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Accounting from Central Washington University and is a licensed CPA.

Colleen Pike is the Director of Facilities Planning and Real Estate at Seattle University. She is

responsible for developing the University’s long range facilities plan, directing the initial

feasibility phases of capital projects, overseeing the performance of the lease portfolio, and

making recommendations on development opportunities and compliance with the Major

Institutional Master Plan. In this role, she serves on various University and community advisory

committees to build consensus. She acted as the University’s liaison with Capstone

Development Partners to develop the first phase of student housing, Vi Hilbert Hall, which

opened in September 2018.

Colleen previously worked at the University of Washington as the Director of the Capital Budget

and Space Planning Office.

UWT is an urban-serving university, with a diverse student population, that continues to grow at a rapid rate. Pat’s office provides strategic

and operational guidance on UWT’s real estate investment portfolio, campus development and planning, as well as environmental management services. In addition, his office guides/directs various on-campus retail and transportation services, which supports UWT and its mission of creating pathways for student success.

Prior to coming to UWT, Patrick was the real estate and capital program director for GSA’s Region 10, where he worked from 1989 – 2008. His leadership role included overseeing four (4) states and 16M s.f. of federal owned and leasehold space. From 2008-2009 he was Vice President for Wright Runstad, a Seattle developer/owner, overseeing their property management operations, and from 2009 – 2013, he was Director of Strategic Market Development for McKinstry, working with federal clients to develop and implement sustainable energy strategies in asset operations.

Patrick also owns and operates NKC-Partners, a real estate consulting business focused on leadership development and asset strategies. He is also an instructor for Seattle/BOMA where he teaches both the RPA designation courses on Asset Management and Real Estate Investment & Finance.

Chad has worked in student housing development and management his entire career, having first begun as a resident assistant at the University of San Diego. Chad joined Capstone in 2001 and leads all Capstone developments in the Western U.S. Chad manages all of a project’s day-to-day activities and details and is the primary point of contact through all stages of development to ensure that university expectations for budget, quality and schedule are met. His duties specifically include managing the entire project team in a collaborative planning and design process, managing the project budget, facilitating the entitlement and permitting process, and working with the management team to ensure a smooth transition from the development to operations phase is achieved. Chad has developed over 5,300 beds of student housing, totaling over $550 Million in development value.

As Executive Vice President of Development, Chad Matesi is responsible for Core’s growth through the successful development of new assets and value-add acquisitions. As a part of Core’s leadership team, Chad works alongside other team leaders in evaluating new opportunities as well as overseeing the evolution of Core’s brands. Chad oversees all upfront development feasibility, financial analysis, due diligence, project design, entitlements, permitting, and general contractor procurement, while providing leadership to the development team throughout construction and project delivery.

Beth has over 27 years of experience working on various projects, including the design development of UW and Seattle Children’s’ workforce housing in Seattle’s University District to the design-build renovation of WSU’s Old Bookie into the Chinook Student Center. As a leader of the Campus Environments practice at GGLO, growing and supporting intergenerational community spirit is what motivates Beth. Her careful attention to the specific goals and character of each community is evident in the mixed-used, multifamily residences and student centers she designs.

Jim Phillips is President and co-owner of FORMA Construction Company. Founded in Olympia in 1985, FORMA’s portfolio is focused in the education sector, with additional work in civic, transit, commercial, and healthcare projects. A fourth-generation local builder, Jim earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Wheaton College and an MBA from the University of Washington. He started his construction career in 1999 and joined FORMA in 2001. As a leading builder of education projects in Washington State, FORMA is experiencing first-hand the shift of public projects to alternative delivery methods, witnessing its reshaping of design and construction for higher education. Brinkman spearheads ACC's the public-private partnership initiatives. He has participated in the award or development of approximately $4 billion of public-private partnerships across the country. One of his key responsibilities involves helping institutional leaders determine whether a partnership model is a viable alternative to develop purpose-built student housing and how institutions can leverage the private sector to deliver the types of housing that today’s student consumers demand. In his 21 years with ACC, Brinkman has served in a variety of capacities, including market analyst, director of development, and vice president of on-campus development. He is an active participant in numerous industry conferences, such as NACUBO, ACUHO-I, SCUP, AOA and NACAS. He graduated summa cum laude from Texas State University with B.B.A.s in marketing and finance.

Scott Johnston leads the Johnston Training Group

programs that enable technical professionals to present

powerfully, write purposefully, and facilitate seamlessly. In

addition, he leads the JTG Selection Panel research,

conducting in-person interviews with selection panel

members from numerous public and private organizations.

As a principal at JTG, he has helped A/E/C firms at every

stage of the process differentiate themselves and win

more work—from early proposal creation to the final

project interview. Scott has spoken at the Society for

Marketing Professional Services, American Council of

Engineering Companies, and National Association of

Women in Construction events.
