Maria has successfully managed the development of 65+ mixed use residential housing projects totaling over $1 billion worth of real estate development projects in Seattle. Ms. Barrientos has been named one of the most influential urban-infill developers in Seattle, a 2015 Puget Sound Business Journal “Woman of Influence”, and is categorized by her peers as innovative, thoughtful, and creative - creating housing that incorporates many forward-looking trends. Maria has also been called a “solution-based” community developer by many. Maria also spends considerable amounts of time as a volunteer with numerous community-based organizations, particularly on Capitol Hill, Uptown, and the University District.

Jaebadiah S. Gardner is an African-American, Mexican-American business man, multi-family real estate developer, author and is the Founder & CEO of GardnerGlobal, Inc., a privately held holding company. Jaebadiah earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and later earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Western Michigan Law School. Prior to founding GardnerGlobal Jaebadiah worked for Turner Construction building commercial high-rises in downtown Seattle with construction projects ranging from $50M-150M. Focused on strategic partnerships, Jaebadiah and his company had the opportunity to co-develop a 115-unit low-income housing tax credit project that was 30%- 60% AMI in Seattle, WA. The project was a $33 million-dollar affordable housing project in partnership with a quasi-governmental local agency. From acquisition to lease-up, Jaebadiah lead the efforts to hire the design and construction team, artists, ensure a successful rezone, entitlements, and a high level of diverse women and minority business enterprise participation.

Currently, Jaebadiah has cultivated a portfolio of $11.5M in land acquisition that will yield 600+ multi-family units. With a total development pipeline of $125M projects will include affordable, workforce and market rate units. In 2021, Jaebadiah launched GardnerGlobal’s first real estate fund. The Multi-family Access Fund I is a $10M fund dedicated to creating

wealth opportunities for the those who’ve been traditionally excluded. As the fund manager, Jaebadiah has raised over $5M that is currently serving as acquisition and early predevelopment funding for existing and future pipeline projects. Jaebadiah has served as a part-time instructor for the University of Washington, Bellevue College and Seattle Central College. He currently serves as a Board of Trustee for the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and President of the University of Washington MAP (Multicultural Alumni Partnership) Board.

Mr. Mitchell earned a law degree from Syracuse University’s College of Law, a

Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of

Architecture degree from Cornell University.

He is an active participant in the community, having served on numerous non-

profit boards and commissions. He has served as a commissioner on the City of

Seattle’s Landmarks Preservation Commission, and as a commissioner on the King

County Housing Authority. He has served as President of the Loren Miller Bar

Association, and the King County Bar Association - Washington State’s largest county

bar association. Finally, he has served as a Member of the Board of Advisors to the

University of Hawaii’s School of Architecture and is a current member of Seattle

University’s Board of Regents.

Mr. Mitchell is an Partner in the Seattle office of Miller Nash Graham & Dunn

LLP, and is admitted to practice law in the states of Washington, Oregon and Hawaii.

He maintains a commercial real estate and public agency / municipal law practice.

Stacy has a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of Washington, and over 15 years in the architecture and construction professions. Her resume includes the first LEED for Homes Platinum certified project in Washington State as well as the first project in the world to be certified under Living Building Version 2.0 standards. At Skanska, Stacy leads sustainable initiatives, and is considered a subject matter expert in LEED, Living Building Challenge and carbon emissions associated with buildings and construction. In her role at the newly established nonprofit, Building Transparency, Stacy leads the continued management and development of the free, open-access Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) tool and works to educate and engage the building industry on actionably reducing embodied carbon emissions of building materials. Stacy has served in various advisory and leadership roles, including: Co-Chair of the Washington Businesses for Climate Action; Advisory Board Member for the University of Washington Carbon leadership Forum; Construction Taskforce Chair for the Embodied Carbon Network; Advisory Group Member for AIA Materials Working Group; and Emerging Professional Regional Chair for USGBC. She is a 2020 Grist 50 Fixer, a 2019 ENR Top 25 Newsmaker, and a Living Building Challenge Hero.

Joel Sisolak, LEED AP, coordinates Capitol Hill Housing's internal sustainability efforts and directs the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict and other neighborhood planning efforts. Prior to joining CHH in 2013, Joel was the Advocacy and Outreach Director for the Cascadia Green Building Council (2008-2013) and Executive Director of the Friends of the Cedar River Watershed (2000-2006). Joel holds a master of urban planning degree from the University of Washington. He serves on the Community Stewardship Advisory Committee for the Master Builder's Association. Joel lives in Seattle with his wife and daughter.

Patti Southard is the program manager for “GreenTools” green building program in King County Washington. At King County Southard runs the Sustainable Cities Program which focuses on coordinating all of King County’s 39 cities on built environment and climate related policies. In addition Southard provides technical assistance for the County’s LEED, Living Building Challenge and Built Green initiatives. Southard has led the GreenTools program as a two time Harvard Bright Idea Award winner and recently received Governor Jay Inslee’s Solar Community Award for the Regional Code Collaboration which she co-chairs with the Kathleen Petrie, City of Seattle.

Southard was raised on her family farm and has focused her sustainable development career on the juxtaposition between rural and urban communities and planning. Southard’s personal accolades include the Built Green Pioneer Award, Cascadia Green Building Council Public Sector Leadership Award, Sustainable Cities Inspirational Leadership Award, is a Cascadia Fellow, Living Future Hero and Honorary AIA.

Scé started her career in the 90s in Silicon Valley, designing and developing the 1st ecommerce sites for GM, HP, Blue Cross and others. Later she helped to pioneer smart phones at Palm. In 2007, Scé started her own company, Citizen, the 7th fastest growing company in Oregon which focuses on Internet of Things (IoT) products such as connected cars and connected health. While developing IoT products for these industries, she realized that there was a lack of enterprise-level Smart Apartment solution designed specifically for the Multi-Family-Home Industry. In 2014, she founded IOTAS, a smart apartment hardware and software technology company to help the MFH industry increase revenue, save costs, gather insights & monetize data from their portfolios. Mike Ballard is a partner at Ascent Multifamily Accounting and has worked in the real estate and accounting industries for almost 30 years. Early in Mike’s career, he worked in the Information Systems Consulting group for Laventhol & Horwath, CPAs. After Laventhol, he joined McGladrey & Pullen before starting his own consulting firm. At Ascent, Mike leads Ascent’s consulting practice, where he advises multifamily clients on strategic planning, process improvement, and tax credits.

Mike was a founding member of the board of the Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies at University of Nevada, Las Vegas and also helped with the formation of the local National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and Construction Financial Management Association chapters. In 2010, Mike was named one of the “Top 20 Visionaries” in Nevada by Nevada Business magazine. Mike has served on the boards of several for-profit companies and not-for-profit organizations. He has helped start three banks and served on the board of Black Mountain Community Bank.

Summary

Of the bajillion things that draw people to the Puget Sound region every day, quality of life surely ranks at the very top. A comfortable place to live is foundational to that experience.

Challenges face Seattle in abundance, chief among them being the issue of affordability. Opportunities for national leadership also abound, and innovations in the sustainability space blaze pathways increasingly trodden by developers, designers and builders in far flung corners of the States.
