Kyung Kim has been working in financial services for fourteen years. Currently, Kyung is the EVP at AVANA Capital and is responsible for expanding AVANA’s offerings in the various franchise sectors and other strategic initiatives.

Prior to joining AVANA, Kyung worked at GE Capital, developing strategic partnerships with restaurant franchisors as well as leading the company’s M&A and strategic planning efforts.

Kyung holds a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Quantitative Economics and Industrial Engineering from Stanford University. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

A passionate and experienced construction technologist, Ryan leads UMC’s manufacturing division that consists of a system of standardized, streamlined processes that eliminate waste, improve productivity, increase efficiency, and ensure quality and safety. Using cutting-edge technology, Ryan has developed the company’s robust prefabrication business that supports modular construction and drives efficiencies throughout the construction delivery process. Ryan’s natural curiosity and willingness to explore new ideas, options and scenarios results in innovations that help the industry realize construction with manufactured systems on a scale and at a price point that will help drive these concepts to mainstream and commonplace in the market.

Geoff joined Stack Modular in 2019 after a 10-year tenure with Westcoast Outbuildings, a modular building manufacturer he co-founded in 2010. Here he was instrumental in the design, procurement, construction, delivery, and installation of over 300 modular building in a wide range of sizes and scope.

Along with his extensive construction industry experience, Geoff has 24 years of business-related leadership roles involving operations, finance and management, serving him well in his current role at Stack Modular.

Most currently, Geoff is overseeing a Canadian west coast 14-storey high rise, adding to his diverse portfolio of modular building projects and affordable housing market sector experience.

The remarkable breadth of modular building projects has provided Geoff with a great deal of knowledge regarding the challenges and benefits of modular construction in other sectors as well, including multi-family, hospitality, and infirmary.

In short, I love buildings, that is all. To put a bit more to it... after starting out as an architectural designer, I've now spent the bulk of my career on the developer/ownership side and have grown into the role of Project Director. From initial due diligence all the way through to early operations I'm ultimately responsible for the schedule, budget, and quality of ground up development projects for citizenM on the US West Coast. This has me directing large complex teams of consultants, suppliers, and contractors, while also watching out for the endless roadblocks related to planning, permitting, and utilities (thanks for the sleepless nights California). As an added bonus, I've worked exclusively on projects built using volumetric modules (think customized shipping container buildings). Try building a European product in China and stacking it up in California, not exactly for the faint of heart...

Justin Stewart is the CEO and Owner of 8-time National Excellence in Construction Award winning Synergy, Inc, and industry disrupting Synergy Modular. Synergy has built over 10,000 units and countless commercial projects as a GC over the last three decades in the Pacific Northwest. In 2017, in response to a demand for predictability, Justin founded Synergy Modular, building projects at a fixed cost, in 30-50% less time.

Ryan Ware is co-founder and vice president of construction for Vantis, one of the largest commercial interior construction firms in Northern California. He is an expert in off-site construction modes and methods, including prefab, volumetric, panelized and precast construction; “lean” design and construction; and alternative contract delivery methods that optimize skilled trades labor. Vantis specializes in off-site construction as part of its design-build service. Vantis integrates pre- construction planning, off-site fabrication and multi-trade subcontractors to deliver custom interior spaces that are flexible and optimized for peak performance on Day 2 and Day 222. Bench Park is a family limited partnership real estate investment company owned by the family office Gorman Family Circle. Mia leads Bench Park’s ESG investment strategy and social impact initiatives. She advocates and evangelizes for all stakeholders to mutually benefit from real estate transactions from the designer, the developer to the dweller. Currently, she working on the launch of a Homeowner DPA (down payment assistance) fund for to provide forever homes for foster care alumni.

A born-and-raised Alaskan, Emily was drawn to architecture by her desire to improve the way communities impact the natural environment. She’s passionate about bringing teams together to develop collaborative, creative solutions. Emily’s past experience includes designing the first cross-laminated timber structure built in Oregon as part of an expansion of the Oregon Zoo. In 2015, Emily received a travel research fellowship to study mass timber applications in Europe, and she’s now a sought-after speaker at industry conferences on mass timber topics. In 2016, Emily was recognized as a Daily Journal of Commerce Woman of Vision.

Lisa is a passionate advocate for sustainable structures, serving as rotating Chair of the Structural Engineers Association of California’s Sustainable Design Committee since 2009 and co-authoring several papers on sustainable design and construction, including one of the first studies on the life cycle impacts of structural systems. Highly engaged in California’s AB2446 embodied carbon workshops, she continues to lead efforts that advance low-carbon building strategies. Building on her expertise in timber innovation and sustainability, she supports clients and project teams through feasibility planning, design management, cost planning, and pre-construction, guiding early decisions to deliver pioneering, environmentally responsible projects.

Bec combines their vision for creating the world we know is possible with their background in sustainability, prefab, technology, construction, and development. Bec loves building teams to generate and operationalize creative solutions to move away from scarcity paradigms, fossil fuels, and the housing shortage; towards sustainability, abundance and love.

Originally from the northeast, Bec moved to the West Coast to learn how to build green buildings. Quickly Bec joined a custom modular prefab company engaging with the promise and opportunity of prefab building. Bec earned an MBA in Sustainable Systems from Bainbridge Graduate Institute (Presidio Graduate School). From there, Bec helped companies and leaders build stronger, more effective teams before joining Don Bunnell as a founder of NODE, a construction technology start-up creating software enabled prefab components for fast, sustainable, and cost effective house assembly.

Dan is an architect at DLR Group, where he is dedicated to shaping and strengthening the Seattle community landscape. With a keen understand of the intricate relationship between people and their environment, he seamlessly integrates the needs and aspirations of diverse stakeholders into the design process. At the heart of Dan’s approach to design lies a commitment to collaborations, bridging disciplines to ensure that each project reflects the unique essence and values of its community. As a lifelong builder and student of construction systems, Brad Nile has made this the focus of his academic studies as well as his world travels. In his 28 years with Andersen Construction, Brad has managed the construction of many landmark commercial and institutional buildings in Washington and Oregon, including the new mass timber projects at the University of Washington and Oregon State University College of Forestry as well as mixed-use, mass timber projects in Portland Oregon. Brad lead the Andersen Construction teams that were responsible for estimating, procuring, and erecting these structures. Coming from a family of forest landowners, Brad has a deep understanding of the timber industry and is passionate about the growing use of mass timber in institutional and commercial projects.

Lindsey has devoted her career to understanding the legal risks her clients face in the construction industry. Her clients include developers, owners, owner’s representatives, contractors, international multidisciplinary design firms, and local engineering and architecture firms. She takes great pride in offering an integrated suite of services to her clients, providing advice on risk management, contract negotiation, and conflict resolution, as well as defending her clients from claims. Lindsey’s practice spans Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and Arizona and she considers it an honor to counsel her clients as they change the way people live, work and travel in the Pacific Northwest.

Lindsey is deeply engaged with organizations in the field of construction and she holds numerous leadership positions as well as being recognized as an honorary American Institute of Architects (AIA) member. She is a respected leader in her field and a frequent presenter to industry organizations and professionals on a range of construction law topics.

Susan Jones is a Seattle architect and founder of award-winning architectural firm, atelierjones. atelierjones is a national leader in driving new pathways within architecture, advancing new lower-carbon, mass timber systems by designing and building prototypes at multiple scales, girded by Susan’s leadership in multiple international collaborations to create change at scale and insure rigor on multiple levels. atelierjones, a solely woman-owned architectural firm, designs mass timber prefabricated single-family houses and urban infill residential to as well as large, mass timber middle-income residential buildings which specifically advance new building codes to allow lower carbon construction that Susan helped craft and guide through the ICC Tall Wood Building Code regulatory processes. Her prolific work over the last nine years to advance and restructure the carbon intensive construction industry towards lower carbon materials is an exemplary example for the role that architects can play to innovate at all scales, and urgently lower our carbon footprint. She regularly partakes in rich, cross-disciplinary dialogues from the local to the international to help understand and better promote sustainable forest practices and manages her own family-owned 140-acre forest in the San Juan islands.

A third-generation native of the Pacific Northwest, Susan grew up in Bellingham, and has raised her family in Seattle. She earned her B.A from Stanford in Philosophy, and her M.Arch from the Harvard GSD. Licensed in multiple states, she has been a visiting design critic at numerous universities, and is Affiliate Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Washington. Susan was made a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 2010, and has been working for architects since she was sixteen.

Taylor Cabot, Project Manager, trained as an architect and transitioned into construction when a mission to build community-minded and resilient structures led her to embrace mass timber. Her work started with traditional glulam post and beam structures, evolving into prefabricated CLT and glulam buildings. Most notably, her work on Carbon12 in Portland, Oregon garnered her a Women of Vision award. With Swinerton and now, Timberlab, Cabot has completed a variety of projects, including the procurement and project management of Ascent, the tallest hybrid timber structure in the world.

Gayle Roberts (she/her) is a Senior Project Manager for Swinerton, an employee-owned company founded in 1888. Gayle brings over 15 years of experience in ground-up construction including multi-family, retail, and office. She is a thought leader for innovation working on complex projects with new technology. She is looking forward to leading the charge for emerging building methods including prefabrication and mass timber.
