Born in Burbank, Calif., Fr. Fitzgerald earned a B.A. in History from Santa Clara University in 1980. Two years later he entered the Society of Jesus, beginning his religious formation at the Jesuit Novitiate in Montecito, California. After First Vows, he was sent to study Philosophy at the Jesuit-run Hochschule fuer Philosophie in Munich, Germany. He then returned to the United States to teach at Jesuit High School in Sacramento.

Fr. Fitzgerald earned the M.Div. degree in 1991 and a Pontifical Licentiate with an emphasis in Ecclesiology at Weston School of Theology, Cambridge MA in 1993. He attended the University of Paris - La Sorbonne, where he earned a D.E.A. (diplôme des études approfondies) and a Docteur ès Lettres (Ph.D.) in the Sociology of Religion. Concurrently he worked towards an S.T.D. (Pontifical Doctorate) in Ecclesiology from the Institut Catholique de Paris.

Prior to USF, he served as Professor of Religious Studies and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Fairfield University. After joining the department of Religious Studies at Santa Clara in 1997, Fr. Fitzgerald taught courses and conducted research under the rubrics of both Systematic Theology and Sociology of Religion. He is the author of the book L'Église comme lieu de formation d'une conscience de la concitoyenneté (Presses Universitaires du Septentrion, 1999) and numerous scholarly articles and popular essays. He served four years as faculty-in-residence for the Loyola Residential Learning community at Santa Clara and was director of the interdisciplinary Catholic Studies minor for seven years. He served as an adjunct lecturer at the Education College in Xiamen, China (1991) and as a visiting lecturer at Hekima College, Nairobi, Kenya (2004). While at Santa Clara Fr. Fitzgerald served as Associate Dean and Senior Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Fr. Fitzgerald currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Loyola University in New Orleans; the Board of Governors of the Commonwealth Club; and the Board of Regents of Archbishop Mitty High School. His prior board service includes the Ecclesiastical Board of the School of Theology and Ministry at Boston College and the Board of Trustees of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

Allison Koo is a Managing Director for Sand Hill Property Company. Allison is involved in all aspects of property development including site acquisitions, entitlements, construction, financing, and leasing. Allison was honored as one of Silicon Valley Business Journal’s “40 under 40” in 2016 for her projects in the Stanford Research Park.

Prior to joining SHP, Ms. Koo worked for NAI BT Commercial in the Silicon Valley office, where she completed both sale and lease transactions totaling over $108MM in consideration. At NAI BT, Ms. Koo was also a founding member of the Asian-American Strategic Investment Advisory Group. Ms. Koo also has worked for the acquisitions and asset management teams of The Laramar Group, a national developer and operator of institutional grade multi-family assets, in both the Chicago, IL and San Francisco, CA offices.

Ms. Koo holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Kellogg School of Management-Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She has studied abroad at the Beijing University as well as at the University of Seville. Ms. Koo is fluent in Chinese Mandarin and Spanish.

David Meckel

Meckel has a long association with the college. In 1985, he was hired to develop CCA's architecture program and served as founding chair for two years. From 1987 to 1992, he was campus architect, responsible for developing facilities to support the college's growing enrollment. He was appointed dean of the School of Architectural Studies in 1992 and served in that capacity until 2000. Following an academic restructuring in 2000, Meckel became special assistant to the president, advising on facilities and strategic planning.

Based in Solana Beach, Mr. Vasbinder’s primary responsibilities include identifying, negotiating and acquiring development opportunities throughout the Western US. Since joining the company in 2008, he has been responsible for the acquisition and development of over 3,200 residential units with a valuation over $1.2B. He is currently active in a number of markets, including Los Angeles, Santa Monica, San Diego and Austin. He is a member of the San Diego Building Industry Association and the Mission Valley Planning Group.

A highly regarded leader in the affordable housing field, Mr. Vaz has spearheaded the building of 7,000 affordable apartments, raising more than $700 million in tax credit financings. AMCAL housing has changed thousands of lives by providing quality apartments and partnering with local non-profit organizations to empower residents through education and supportive services. Seeing the massive need for affordable housing in fast-growing Texas, Mr. Vaz expanded AMCAL’s operations into that market in 2012.

Mr. Vaz serves on the Board of Directors for the California Housing Consortium, an organization dedicated to advancing affordable housing and community development. He is also a member of the Southern California Association of Non-Profit Housing and the California Redevelopment Association. Entering the student housing field in 2012 to serve California universities that face a housing crisis, he quickly become a recognized expert and AMCAL a preferred builder. He is a frequent speak on affordable and student housing and urban redevelopment at major forums including Urban Land Institute, Pacific Coast Builders Conference, National Housing Conference, Building Industry Association, University of Southern California, Bisnow and numerous affordable housing groups.

Rosemarie Rae brings more than 35 years of experience in finance and administration to her role as UC Berkeley’s Vice Chancellor of Finance and Chief Financial Officer.

During the course of her work in the public and nonprofit sectors, she has developed a wide depth and breadth of knowledge in budget and financial management, strategic planning, and operations.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor of Finance includes Capital Strategies, the Controller’s Office, Finance & Capital Asset Strategies, Financial Planning & Analysis, University Business Partnerships & Services, and the Immediate Office. Together these teams oversee university financial services and controls, lead an integrated approach to planning and development, provide accurate and timely information and analyses to inform campus decision-making in service of UC Berkeley’s mission of teaching, research, and public service.

Rosemarie takes great pride in how our institution shapes higher education and her focus on collaboration, accountability, and the greater harmonization of operating and capital planning continues to further the goal of financial sustainability.

Prior to coming to Berkeley, she served as the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of The National Trust for Historic Preservation, she also served as an Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer, and Chief Financial Officer at Volunteers of America; held senior leadership positions at Experience Works and LORAL Space and Communications; and was a principal and founder of Balrae Associates, an Information Technology services firm.

Rosemarie holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Radford University and a masters degree in public administration from American University.

Charles Kahn is the managing principal of Studio KDA, a 25-person architecture firm specializes in multifamily housing, retail centers, and restaurants with services ranging from master planning to interior design. Studio KDA is diverse in project type but unified in its mission: to use design to create places that are true to their culture and context, that are engaging and lasting, and that foster social interaction. As a former developer and general contractor, Charles’ perspective is informed by a deep understanding of his clients concerns and objectives. He enjoys working with people and is often sought for his aptitude in building consensus with municipalities, neighborhood groups, and local businesses to get complex projects entitled and built efficiently. Charles is a frequent lecturer at U.C. Berkeley, a panelist at ICSC events, and is a current member of the City of Berkeley’s Zoning Adjustments Board and Design Review Commission. He received a BA from Harvard University and Masters from U.C. Berkeley.

Marion has 30 plus years of experience working with higher education institutions, all over Canada and the U.S., on projects ranging from, student housing, recreation centers, dining facilities, student unions, and student services buildings. The majority of these projects have been new construction ranging in size from $10 million to $200 million. As an architect, her experience is deep and diverse, big picture and detail oriented. She is a problem solver who thrives in an integrated design process. She was a Principal and Project Manager for the LEED® Silver 400-metre speed skating oval in the City of Richmond, a construction management procurement project that was designated as the official speed skating venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Marion is passionate about sustainability and is dedicated to delivering high-quality client service. Currently Marion has been focused on SFU’s Phase I and Phase II Student Housing, Student Housing Living Room Additions and Dining Commons. All Phases are now heading for completion in construction.

Curtis Caton, AIA, is a senior principal at PYATOK architecture + urban design, specialists in California multifamily housing design and planning. Curtis joined PYATOK in 1996 as the Project Architect for the firm’s first venture into campus housing design with studies for UC Berkeley that led to the replacement of 920 apartments for student families at University Village in Albany. He has since led dozens of housing and mixed-use projects for students, seniors, families, and individuals with special needs. Curtis’ 40 years of housing experience includes student housing on six higher ed campuses, including public-private partnerships. Curtis is an enthusiastic team player and relishes the opportunity to develop innovative projects that meet the unique requirements of each client’s program and site with an appropriate economy of means. He recently oversaw the completion of Crescent Grove affordable/supportive suburban infill in Castro Valley; Flicker Bird homes, clinic, and cultural gathering space in Oakland; and the 206-unit rehabilitation of Del Nido Apartments in Santa Rosa.

David Seward

Since 1994, David Seward has served as the Chief Financial Officer of UC Hastings College of the Law where he is responsible for financial and business management functions and capital planning where he leads implementation of the school’s long range campus plan which will culminate in the development of a new graduate Academic Village.

Active in the Tenderloin, Seward recently concluded his second four year term on the Board of Directors of the Tenderloin Community Benefit District, an organization focused on sidewalk cleaning, graffiti removal, and neighborhood improvement. He also serves on the board of the Tenderloin Museum.

Mr. Seward grew up outside Detroit and graduated from the University of Michigan also attending the University of San Francisco, graduating with an MBA in Finance.

A public school parent of three, Todd is an avid community volunteer and weekend pickleball player.

Patrick Kennedy is the owner of Panoramic Interests, a development firm that has been building housing, live-work space, and commercial property in the Bay Area since 1990. The firm has focused on dense, mixed-use, mixed-income, infill developments, typically financed with private funds. All of the multi-family housing projects include below market rate units. The firm’s projects incorporate the Smart Growth principles designed to discourage auto use, mitigate sprawl, encourage local business, and enhance the pedestrian streetscape. Mr. Kennedy grew up in the East Bay, and attended Claremont McKenna College, majoring in Economics and English. He is a former member of the Carpenters Union and Steelworkers Union, and the California Bar. After college, he worked as a contractor, and then attended Harvard Law School and MIT, graduating with a J.D. and a Masters in Real Estate Development. Early development work included building his own house, and renovating several small commercial properties. His hobbies include open water swimming and ultra-light backpacking, both of which have furnished surprising insights into his work in development.

Prior to her current position, Jeny was Director of Logistics & Facility Services for HDCS and oversaw housing maintenance, housekeeping, grounds, the service center, and the University Park apartment program. Preceding her appointment to SF State, Jeny worked for Kennedy Wilson International, a real estate firm, where she was a Property/Portfolio Manager directing and assisting acquisitions, property sales, and transfers throughout California.

Jim is the University Architect and Associate Vice Chancellor in charge of Design and Construction Management.

As Associate Vice Chancellor & University Architect at Design and Construction Management (DCM), Jim leads a highly-skilled team of 100 professionals, with the responsibility for management of the campus-wide building program, currently in excess of $1.5B. Our team at DCM provides engineering planning, design services, integrated capital and space planning, real estate services, contract and construction management and stewardship for the nearly 1,300 buildings on the UC Davis campus and throughout California.

Jim received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is a member of the Association of University Architects, the Society for College and University Planning, and APPA: Leadership in Educational Facilities (formerly the Association of Physical Plant Administrators), as well as the American Institute of Architects. He is a LEED-accredited professional (LEED is the U.S. Green Building Council’s rating system, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

He is an industry leader in off-site construction and modular design having permitted more than 2,500 units of factory-built housing in California. Nick is passionate about urban infill housing and inspired by the opportunity to develop projects that contribute to the unique and complex fabric of the cities they are in.

A graduate of California College of the Arts architecture program, Gomez is a native Californian and proud of his Bay Area roots. He is active in the East Bay community and serves on the Modular Building Institute (MBI) Design Professionals Advisory Council and the Alameda Public Art Advisory Council (PAAC).

Julie Skolnicki is senior managing director of University Partnerships for Greystar, leading on-campus

development, acquisition, and long-term management partnerships nationally. She has executed over $3 billion

in mixed-use student life projects during her career advising and developing for universities, with an additional $2

billion in the pipeline. Julie joined Greystar in 2018 through the company’s acquisition of student housing leader

EdR, where she served as senior vice president of university partnerships. She came to EdR in 2013 with 15 years

of higher education planning and implementation experience at Brailsford & Dunlavey (B&D), the University of

Cincinnati, and Turner Construction.
