A Salesforce veteran of 17 years, Pinkham was previously responsible for global strategic events. Prior to joining BUILD, Courtney was the acting project manager for the Transbay Redevelopment Project Area at the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure (OCII), formerly the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency. Since construction completion and activation, HIA has continued to win Skytrax Best Middle East Airport for four consecutive years and has been awarded the coveted “5 Star World Class Airport” classification. More recently Kirsten has led the Construction Management Group at AGS, Inc., a San Francisco based Engineering firm specializing in Geotechnical, Civil and Structural engineering with a dedicated department focused on providing project management support services to large scale Bay Area public projects. When she is not busy managing teams of construction professionals, Kirsten is an active member of the International Interior Design Association, serving on the Northern California Board as the Vice President of Forums, who provide “industry give back” speaking events with a focus on current industry trends and movements.

Jennifer Essner is an Executive Director at Cushman & Wakefield with 14 years of commercial real estate brokerage experience. As Deputy Director of Development for the Mayor of San Francisco, Sarah manages the City’s interests in major public-private development projects, and acts as a key advisor on planning, land use, and development issues in San Francisco, with a focus on market rate and affordable housing development. Recent successes include the Pier 70 project, which broke ground at the Port of San Francisco in early May; the unanimous Planning Commission approval of the Central SOMA Plan, which adds capacity for tens of thousands of jobs and housing units to San Francisco’s downtown; and the implementation of Mayor’s Executive Directive to Accelerate Housing Production, which is reducing housing permitting timelines by up to 50%.

Xinyi (pronounced “Shin-Gee”) McKinny has joined the San Francisco offices of Cushman & Wakefield as Senior Managing Director – China Direct Investment. Xinyi will be responsible for supporting and driving new business opportunities with Chinese investor and occupier clients in the Bay Area and Los Angeles.

During her career, she has managed and directed the full implementation lifecycle from pre-design to substantial completion work, including marketing, planning, schematic design, construction document development, consultant coordination and construction administration.

Xinyi earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Environment Design from the University of Colorado at Boulder and graduated with honors. She subsequently received her Masters in Architecture from the University of Colorado at Denver. As a native Chinese speaker, Xinyi also completed three years as a Bachelor in Architecture student at the Qingdao Technological University in China, where among other activities, she was the Editor-in-Chief of University Magazine. Today, she is enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley and is pursuing her Masters of Business Administration, with an emphasis on Real Estate.

Katia Kamangar leads all new community development activities for SummerHill Homes and SummerHill Apartment Communities in Northern California.

Ms. Kamangar joined SummerHill in 2005. She oversees all duties related to new community development, including initial land planning, due diligence, architecture and design, budgeting and forecasting, and securing all necessary entitlement approvals through the commencement of construction and sales.

Ms. Kamangar also leads the company’s Green Task Force that evaluates new technologies and construction practices aimed at increasing the sustainability of the homes SummerHill constructs. For ten years prior to joining SummerHill, she was with Greenbriar Homes Communities Inc. as Senior Development Manager and Director of Development. Previously, she was Construction Project Manager for Mobil Oil Corporation. From 1998 to 2001, Ms. Kamangar served on the City of Los Altos Planning Commission. From 2001 to 2005, she was a Board Member for the BIA Bay Area. Ms. Kamangar holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from U.C. Berkeley and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

A licensed architect and certified city planner, Ellen Lou leads Urban Design + Planning Group for SOM's San Francisco office. Lou has directed many world-renowned urban design and planning efforts in the United States and the Pacific Rim countries. Her areas of specialization include urban, brownfield reuse, master plans for new towns and communities, historic revitalization, and campus master plans.

Lou is particularly skilled in developing innovative ideas to address challenging urban planning contexts and in guiding development interests to create public benefit. She is keenly interested in promoting sustainable development. Her tenets of sustainable planning include creating pedestrian-friendly and transit-oriented developments, integrating elements of site features with development needs, and engendering a sense of identity rooted in the culture and aspirations of the place.

Lou is also active in civic and educational outreach. She has lectured and served as visiting instructor and guest critic for architecture and urban design courses at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, North Dakota University, California Academy of Arts, and University of California Berkeley. She has also participated in community workshops and design charrettes organized by the San Francisco Planning Department and the Association of Bay Area Government in East Bay and San Francisco. Lou serves as a board member for San Francisco Urban Planning and Research, as well as on the San Jose Downtown Architecture Review Committee.

Smitha Seshadri is Executive Vice President of Development at BRIDGE Housing Corporation and leads the organization’s real estate development activities in Northern California. Smitha brings 20+ years of experience with a strong background in architecture, community development and real estate finance. She has successfully structured several complex multi-family affordable housing developments and is responsible for overseeing the execution of several mixed-use/mixed-income developments for BRIDGE in Northern California, including new construction and acquisition-rehab over the past 5.5 years. Earlier this year, BRIDGE was honored with the “Nonprofit Developer of the Year Award” from the San Francisco Business Times for delivering approximately 1,000 new and rehabbed affordable housing units in the Bay Area over the past 2 years. Her team is currently working on 7 construction projects with a total of 735 affordable housing units and several new construction projects in predevelopment. Prior to BRIDGE, Smitha served as Vice President of Real Estate at Habitat for Humanity, San Francisco and Director of Development for the Santa Clara Housing Authority.

Ms. Seshadri holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California and Satellite Affordable Housing Associates.

Sharon Lai is the Director of Development at One Vassar, LLC, where she leads development efforts for urban mixed-use projects in the residential, commercial and hospitality sectors in San Francisco and nationally. Sharon’s role covers various aspects including acquisition, design development, entitlements, public engagement and government affairs. Prior to One Vassar, Sharon worked for the San Francisco Planning Department as a Senior Planner with 10 years of public sector experience. Sharon is an appointed Director on the Treasure Island Development Authority. She also sits on the Board of the San Francisco Junior League and SF Bay Area Hep B Free.

Ms. Merrill is the president and founder of Merrill Morris Partners, a San Francisco-based landscape architectural and planning firm. Her 35-year career has covered the spectrum of the profession—park and open space design, public works facilities, transportation and environmental planning and urban design

Lei-Lani Keelan, an Executive Vice President with JLL, provides real

Amy's career started at an award winning architecture firm. She thought it would be only a few years before she returned to working at an architecture office, but the work was so exciting and challenging that she worked as a Project Manager managing commercial construction for seven years. Aliza Skolnik focuses on strategic leadership, sustainable solutions and healthy environments. As Vice President and Director of the ESD San Francisco Office, she is responsible for managing the business development, recruitment and operations for the West Coast. She is a registered Professional Engineer as well as a LEED and WELL Accredited Professional, Green Globes Professional and Fitwel Ambassador. Aliza is also an active leader in the real estate industry through her involvement in the local USGBC and CoreNet chapters. Julie focuses on environmental and land use counseling and litigation for complex development projects. She resolves issues

that arise under the California Environmental Quality Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Water Act, federal

and state species protection statutes, and a range of other local, state and federal statutes and common law doctrines that

affect land use. An experienced litigator in California and federal courts, Julie defends projects and uses this experience to

help clients obtain the approvals they need while minimizing litigation risk.

Julie’s strategic problem solving has assisted private and public entities in permitting major university, traditional and

renewable energy, water supply, marine terminal, residential and commercial projects. Recent accomplishments include:

• Securing approvals for faculty and below-market- rate housing developments, as well as office and R&D developments, in

Palo Alto. In spite of controversy regarding traffic and other issues, no litigation was filed and all projects are either complete

or under construction.

• Assisting Stanford University in obtaining Precise Plan and subsequent approvals for a 1.5-million- square-foot office,

research and development and medical clinic project in Redwood City. The effort involved complex traffic, air quality and

greenhouse gas issues. No litigation was filed.

• Successfully defending the environmental impact report for a major oil company’s marine oil terminal against CEQA

litigation brought by environmental groups.

• Successfully defending a medical clinic against CEQA claims brought by clinic protesters.

Additional litigation successes include defending a transportation sales tax ballot measure; a city/county agreement for urban

services; a transportation authority’s light rail extension; and a university development and roadway project. Julie also

represented a port in the successful defense of major expansion and dredging projects against NEPA and Endangered

Species Act claims.

Julie is the author of the sustainable development chapter of California Land Use and Planning Law and has co-authored the

treatise's chapters on federal and state wetland regulation and endangered species protections. She is also a regular

contributor to the California Land Use and Development Law Report, and lectures on CEQA and NEPA for clients,

professionals and industry associations.
