Jill leads Edlen & Co.’s public-private partnerships and build-to-suit projects for nonprofit and for-profit organizations, facilitating the important work of nonprofits and public agencies in our communities. Her projects at Edlen & Co., and previously at Gerding Edlen Development which she joined in 2003, include affordable housing, community facilities, student housing, academic buildings and mixed-use residential. Jill sources new deals and manages all aspects of the development process, with a depth of expertise at integrating non-conventional sources of financing including low income housing tax credits, new market tax credits, historic tax credits, tax-exempt bonds and urban renewal funds. She holds a Master’s of Urban Studies from Portland State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from University of Pennsylvania. She served on the City of Portland’s Planning and Sustainability Commission and currently serves on the boards for Architectural Foundation of Oregon and Earth Advantage.

Chris co-founded Capstone Partners LLC in 2002. He brings over 26 years of real estate investment, development and asset management in all product types. Chris has personally sourced and directed the development, investment and management of over 8 million square feet of industrial, multi-family, retail and office properties in the Pacific Northwest and Northern Nevada for institutional partners and clients including Morrison Street Capital, Prudential Real Estate Investors, PCCP, LLC, Washington Capital Management and several family offices.

Chris received a BA in Economics from University of California, Davis in 1989 where he also served as its Student Body President. Chris lives in Portland with his wife Barbara and two teenage children Nikki (18) and Conner (15). Chris is an Eagle Scout.

He serves on the Advisory Board for the PSU Center for Real and is a Board Member of KairosPDX, a PPS K-5 Charter School. He is also a member of the Urban Land Institute and The Forest Park Conservancy.

Jonas joined Unico in 2003 and held several positions within the company including Senior Vice President, Investments & Development, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Investment Officer, before becoming President in 2015. In his role as President, Jonas oversees all divisions of Unico and spends time on both the operations and the investment strategy of Unico with particular emphasis on capital formation, development, and acquisition activity. Jonas has been instrumental in building both the strategic and execution arms of Unico’s evolution, having led geographic and product expansion initiatives in addition to operational projects.

Jonas brings a proven track record of successful investment performance to evaluating opportunities and enjoys boiling complex problems down to key pivotal questions. He has comprehensive real estate knowledge from project inception to completion and is most energized when working alongside colleagues and partners to jointly brainstorm best approaches. Having held roles in both advisory and principal capacities, his perspective benefits both internal and external customers.

Bruce Wood has been with the Portland Development Commission since February 2012 where he currently manages the Real Estate and Construction Services team. Bruce, originally from Longview, Washington, began his real estate career in 1988 upon graduating with his MBA from Harvard Business School. After a short time in Seattle with the Trammell Crow Company, in 1990 Bruce transferred to the Portland Trammell Crow office where he headed up leasing and development of industrial properties. From 1992-1997 Bruce worked for Harsch Investment and headed up several industrial developments including Harsch’s efforts in Las Vegas where Harsch eventually became southern Nevada’s largest Landlord. In 1997, Bruce left Harsch to head up the regional office of Opus Northwest which he grew to one of the largest developers in the region. Bruce left Opus in 2005 and founded, Foundation Real Estate Development, which continues to own and manage assets in the Portland area. With a passion to bring private real estate experience to public efforts, he joined the PDC in 2012. In addition to his real estate efforts, Bruce is an adjunct faculty member of the Portland State Real Estate program and is the longest serving Board member of PSU’s Center for Real Estate Studies.

Ben is committed to mass timber construction and believes it is the future of sustainable development. He is an advocate for its efficient construction, environmentally responsible development, safety, and seismic resilience. His most recent project, Carbon12, is the tallest CLT building in the United States.

To bring Carbon12 to life, Ben successfully worked with state officials to waive the restrictive codes that limit the height of wood buildings. This singular accomplishment has made mid- to high-rise CLT buildings possible for the first time in this country. By building with mass timber, Ben hopes to help reinvigorate the Pacific Northwest’s timber economy and continue Portland’s reputation as a leader in American urban revitalization.

Ben brings a unique perspective to urban development, informed by over 20 years of serving as the owner, developer, architect, and general contractor on his projects. He was involved in the early stages of Portland’s Pearl District and has spearheaded redevelopment in NE Portland, including the Historic Mississippi District and the Williams/Vancouver corridor. Ben is a former member of the Portland Design Commission, and he earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Mark is a Principal at Smallwood, an international design firm that provides architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and experiential graphic design services. For over 35 years,

Mark has successfully designed and managed projects in the Multifamily, Hospitality, Mixed-use, Office, Retail and Institutional sectors.

He has a strong focus on Multifamily and Hospitality projects and through design creates memorable experiences for residents and guests. In Nashville, Mark was involved in the design of the SkyHouse, Viridian and Encore residential projects, as well as the JW Marriott hotel.

Recent Multifamily projects of his include Vireo in Atlanta, and Icon Harbour Island in Tampa Bay. Mark also designed the Thompson Savannah and The Cherokee, Harrah’s Cherokee Hotel.

Mark holds an Undergraduate degree from the University of Florida and a Graduate degree from Rice University.

An engineer and designer by training, Eric is drawn to innovative new ideas that make our communities better places to live. At UD+P, Eric concentrates on acquisition, development, finance, and property management. He oversees budgets and the acquisition-to-construction phase of new projects, and he initiates loans for our private real estate funds.

Before UD+P, Eric was a project manager at Pacific Bay Investments in Berkeley, California. Prior to that, Eric managed engineering projects for Cypress Semiconductor, Maple Optical Systems, Leapfrog Toys, and the National Science Foundation. Eric holds eight patents and has published several papers related to this work. He earned an MBA with a focus in real estate finance from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, as well as BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering from Mississippi State University. Eric currently serves as a Vice President of the Central Eastside Industrial Council and Urban Product Council Chair of the Portland Chapter of the Urban Land Institute.

As a partner at Holst Architecture, Dave pursues elegant solutions to clients’ programmatic needs. He is devoted to architecture that is modern, appropriate, and sustainable. His 20 years of experience as a designer on a wide variety of project types has honed his ability to think creatively, build consensus, and execute complex details. Dave has managed all phases of design and construction, and is especially adept at balancing quality with budget and time constraints for his clients.

Dave is frequently sought as a speaker about designing for social impact, including Greenbuild, PechaKucha, and the Living Future UnConference. He is also active in the community. After years of volunteering for the American Institute of Architects, he was elected Portland President for 2015 where he lobbied the State of Oregon to legalize inclusionary zoning as an affordable housing tool. He now serves as Vice-President for the nonprofit Center for Architecture and is co-chair of the AIA Portland Urban Design Panel.

Dave has been widely recognized for his dedication to making positive change. In 2013, he was honored with a Portland BetterBricks Award in the Building Design category, which recognizes outstanding career achievements of building professionals who implement high-performance design and sustainable solutions. In 2012, the Daily Journal of Commerce profiled Dave and his work on Bud Clark Commons, a Housing First resource center for Portland’s houseless citizens recognized by an AIA COTE Top 10 Award as well as the AIA HUD Secretary Award for Creating Community Connections.

Shirley has been with DCI Engineers for more than a dozen years and was just honored with the Daily Journal of Commerce 2019 Women of Vision Award. She was also recently featured in an exhibit at Portland’s Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) called “Designing Our World: A Community Envisioning Girls as Engineers,” where she shared her career story about going into the engineering profession.

Her work providing structural design solutions for mass timber projects has helped reshape the region’s built environment by providing forward-thinking sustainable design concepts. These have included the Fair-Haired Dumbbell, Flatiron PDX and Block 8L.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at Trine University (formerly Tri-State University) in Angola, Indiana, and her Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering at Cornell University. Shirley is an Allied member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in Portland and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
