Matt oversees all investment and asset management activity for Alterra. He and his Partners are responsible for forming and implementing investment strategies across the company. Matt played an integral part in the formation of Alterra’s Industrial Outdoor Storage platform and oversees the day-to-day acquisitions and asset management initiatives of that platform. In addition, he is responsible for raising and structuring equity and debt for Alterra’s ongoing business initiatives. Matt has been involved with over $1 billion of transactions during his time at Alterra.

Prior to joining Alterra, Matt focused on acquisitions on the East Coast for CenterSquare, a real estate private equity firm located in Philadelphia. He began his career in real estate at Blackstone (2007-2012).

Matt has an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. in Finance from Georgetown University. Matt is actively involved with Wharton’s Zell Lurie Real Estate Center and is a member of the board for Georgetown’s Steers Center for Global Real Estate. Matt and his wife have two children and reside outside of Philadelphia.

Derek Fish is responsible for leading Acquisitions and Business Development for Realterm in the United States. Previously, Mr. Fish worked for Ravinia Capital Group in Chicago, IL, as an Acquisitions Associate charged with underwriting real estate investments and capital structures across property types. Derek was also a senior analyst at LaSalle Investment Management responsible for asset management of properties across a $3.0 billion fund. Mr. Fish holds a BA from Dartmouth College.

Susan Charles counsels clients on all aspects of environmental law including regulatory compliance, risk assessment, enforcement defense and environmental litigation. She routinely advises clients with respect to spill and release reporting, hazardous waste issues, permitting, and state cleanup programs.

Sue’s regulatory compliance practice focuses on formulating and maintaining environmental management practices with respect to permitting, waste management and disposal strategies. She emphasizes litigation avoidance and the development of innovative solutions to complex legal disputes. Sue’s practice also evaluates the impact of existing and proposed environmental laws and regulations on transactions involving corporate and private equity clients and their effect on post-closing regulatory compliance. Her transactional work focuses primarily on identifying, delineating and quantifying environmental risk in corporate mergers and acquisitions, real estate development/redevelopment deals, and project development. Sue has substantial experience in all major areas of environmental due diligence and contract negotiation which allows her to help clients make an informed assessment and reasonable allocation of environmental risk. Her transactional practice spans the United States and she has worked directly with regulators from, among other states, Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington.

Devin Barnwell

Devin Barnwell is the U.S. Head of Real Estate Management overseeing operations within the Logistics portfolio for Brookfield Properties. Ms. Barnwell joined Brookfield Properties in 2019 after more than 18 years at Morgan Stanley, where she was an asset manager in the real estate investing practice overseeing the Southeast and Texas. Ms. Barnwell currently manages a seasoned team of professionals in three offices who are responsible for the leasing and management of Brookfield Property’s rapidly growing 21M square foot U.S. Industrial portfolio. During her career, Ms. Barnwell has been directly involved in more than $1.5Bn in purchase and sales transactions and leasing in excess of 20M square feet across all property types. Ms. Barnwell completed her BBA at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business and her MS and MBA in Real Estate at Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business. She is an active member of various real estate organizations including NAIOP, ULI and Women Lead at Georgia State University.
