Margaret R. Peterson, PhD, serves as President of Dignity Health - California Hospital Medical, a 318-bed community hospital located at 1401 South Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Peterson began her career as a registered nurse. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., her Master of Science degree in Cardiovascular Nursing from The Catholic University of America in Washington, and her Doctor of Philosophy in Administration from Miami University in Ohio.

Peterson has served in executive leadership roles over the past several years. Most recently, she was chief executive officer (CEO) at Desert Valley Hospital and Desert Valley Medical Group in Victorville, California, where she lead expansion efforts that included the opening of a comprehensive heart center. Prior to that, Peterson was CEO of Victor Valley Community Hospital and Simi Valley Hospital and Health Care Services in Simi Valley, California. She has also held executive leadership positions at hospitals in the states of Louisiana and Maryland.

Peterson has been honored by several organizations for her community leadership and named as “2005 Woman of the Year” by the 38th Assembly District of the California State Legislature. More recently, she received the President’s Award for Leadership from the Victorville African American Chamber of Commerce. A results-oriented leader, Peterson understands the important role that a hospital plays in the well-being of the community it serves. She is mission-driven and has hands-on community relations experience. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated her commitment to excellence in patient care through strategic partnerships with the American Heart Association and other notable organizations.

As new residents and professionals move into downtown Los Angeles, Peterson looks forward to introducing them to the outstanding services of Dignity Health - California Hospital Medical Center. Peterson will work closely with the hospital team and community partners to ensure continued growth as the neighborhood blossoms, while continuing to care for families who have relied on the hospital for generations.

Michael, a EwingCole principal, is Director of the firm’s West Coast Healthcare Practice. With more than 30 years of experience, he specializes in OSHPD-certified healthcare projects. He has planned and designed complex and large-scale replacement hospitals, as well as renovations of small rural community facilities. He is well versed in all phases of project development from strategic planning through completion of construction.

Michael has a passion for collaborative team building, lean process, and integrated project delivery (IPD) techniques. He is proud of using lean-IPD methods to deliver one of Sacramento’s most significant healthcare projects. Michael believes that complex healthcare projects are successful only when the team finds ways to work together cooperatively and together find ways to eliminate waste in the design and construction process.

In his role as Senior Vice President of Real Estate and Facilities, Sanford Smith heads the departments responsible for the planning, development and operations of all facilities projects for Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian. The portfolio consists of approximately 2 million square feet and includes a diverse range of facility types, including the hospital, outpatient services and medical office buildings.

Prior to joining Hoag, Mr. Smith was the Corporate Manager of Real Estate and Facilities for Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. In the 18 years he spent overseeing Toyota's North American expansion, his department's leading edge work on environmental issues was recognized with many awards, including: the Global Innovators Award for Corporate Real Estate as well as honors from US Green Building Council, American Institute of Architects, Cal EPA, IFMA, and IIDA. Toyota's Real Estate and Facilities Department also received the Environmental Leadership Award from California's Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger in both 2003 and 2007.

He is an active member of the Partner's Circle of the College of Environmental Design at Cal Poly Pomona. Mr. Smith belongs to the American Institute of Architects and is a Director of Ability First (formerly Crippled Children's Society) and Chairman of their real estate committee.

Mr. Smith received the prestigious Corporate Real Estate Leadership Award from the editors of Site Selection Magazine and was honored as the Corporate Real Estate Executive of the Year by the Los Angeles Chapter of CoreNet

Key regional executive, based in Pasadena, responsible for the planning and execution of the strategic capital plan in the largest not-for-profit health plan in the United States. Ron provides strategic management, technical and leadership support for Facilities Planning, Construction Acquisition, Real Property Acquisition, Facilities Operations and Clinical Technology. Annual 2016 spend for Southern California will exceed $1 billion for Ron’s eleven consecutive year.

Ron’s leadership the capital expansion program has delivered 2,000 new hospital beds and 1,200 new provider offices as well as investment in 25 new communities. Current project portfolio includes 1,388 projects of which 24 are valued at $25M or more. Ron has direct responsibility for twelve capital project teams and provides direct leadership of more than 1,000 employees and indirect supervision of 2, 500 contractor and vendor employees. Company X, you increased sales by 200 percent.

Jake has been with the firm since 2005 and focuses on the overall vision and strategy of the company including financial, operational, growth, team and delivery partnerships. Jake is responsible for sourcing, structuring and leading development opportunities including deal structuring, entitling, financing, and managing ground-up development projects from inception to occupancy.

Jake is a LEED® Accredited Professional and has a California real estate broker’s license. He is on the ULI Health Care and Life Sciences Council, an advisory board member of Cal Poly Pomona’s College of Environmental Design and holds active memberships in the Urban Land Institute (ULI), Cornell Real Estate Council and the U.S. Green Building Council.

Jake received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University in 2003, a Certificate in Real Estate Finance, Investments and Development and a Certificate in Healthcare Transformation from the University of California Irvine. Jake lives in Encinitas, CA with his wife and three kids
