Mr. Barker serves as the CEO of NorthView Partners and has over 20 years of multifamily real estate experience. He has been directly involved in the development of over 5,000 multifamily units and has provided oversight for the construction of nearly 2,700 multifamily units in his career. Mr. Barker’s experience includes multifamily product types ranging from two-story direct-entry, three-story breezeway with integrated garages, and four and five-story residential with structured parking.

Mr. Barker has financed multifamily projects through both private equity and institutional partners. Prior to forming NorthView Partners, he joined Colonial Properties Trust in April 2005 and served as Senior Vice President, overseeing multifamily development and supporting acquisitions for Colonial within the East Coast region, including the states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. In addition, Mr. Barker was a member of Colonial’s Senior Management Team and provided additional business development input and guidance for the company.

From 1999 to 2005, he was a Director in the Raleigh-Durham office of Wood Partners focusing on multifamily development in the Triangle market and was responsible for developing the Triangle’s first urban apartment project with structured parking. Prior to joining Wood Partners, Mr. Barker served as Development Coordinator for Steven D. Bell & Company (Bell Partners), in which Mr. Barker had development responsibility for multifamily and assisted living housing and supported Bell on existing multifamily and commercial asset acquisitions.

Mr. Barker graduated from Appalachian State University in 1992 with a degree in Social Science Education with a Concentration in History. After teaching high school social studies for two years, Mr. Barker entered the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where in 1996 he received a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning with a major in Real Estate Development and Finance. Mr. Barker is an active member of the Urban Land Institute and his church.

Alex Eyssen

Alex Eyssen serves as Managing Director of Development for North and South Carolina and oversees the company’s 16th regional office, located in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mr. Eyssen has more than 12 years of experience in real estate development and has been directly involved in development of multifamily and student housing communities in excess of $500 million. Mr. Eyssen has also practiced as a trial attorney handling land use matters.

Prior to joining Mill Creek, Mr. Eyssen was Vice President of Development for The Bainbridge Companies and worked on projects in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. Prior to Bainbridge, Mr. Eyssen served as Vice President of Development, Acquisitions and Dispositions at Charlotte-based Campus Crest Development, the national real estate development company for Campus Crest Communities. Here, he helped the company’s ground-up efforts to build a $1.9 billion portfolio of student housing assets.

Mr. Eyssen holds a Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University, a Bachelor of Science from McMurry University, and is a member in good standing with the Texas Bar Association.

David Yowell

David Yowell is responsible for sourcing and executing new development opportunities in North Carolina. His duties include site selection, negotiating land purchases for development, capitalization, and managing the entitlement and design processes. Since joining Alliance in 2018, David has been involved in the execution of over 3,000 multifamily units in Carolinas. Prior to joining Alliance Residential, David worked for Medalist Capital sourcing commercial real estate debt and equity capital. Mr. Yowell graduated from Clemson University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance with a concentration in Real Estate.

Bill is a Principal of Smallwood, a world-wide design firm providing architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and experiential graphics services. He has 18 years of professional experience in Architectural Design and Project Management for a broad range of projects including Multifamily, Commercial Office, Performing Arts, Worship and Industrial developments. His most recent experiences include The Walter, a 34 story, 376-unit Multifamily tower in the Park District of North Hills and the multi-year SkyHouse Program with 18 high-rise, urban, multifamily towers with over 6,000 units and 7,100-spaces of structured parking. Bill holds Undergraduate and Graduate degrees from the University of Cincinnati.

Mike Rosen

As a recognized leader in the architecture and technology communities, Mike Rosen is considered a trendsetter in the residential architecture industry. His areas of expertise include master planning, entitlement, new product design, visualization services, real estate evaluation, and sustainability and technology consulting.

Credited with the design of over 4,000 projects, Mike’s work experience spans residential, commercial, medical, and industrial facilities. He was the 66th architect in the world to attain his LEED AP ND designation in 2011, and was a beta tester for the LEED ND exam. Mike’s LEED AP ND sustainable master planning designation and forward-thinking green projects, along with his experience with advanced visualization technologies, have helped to establish Progressive AE as a thought leader on the national housing stage. He is a sought after public speaker on a variety of housing topics and has garnered recognition in publications such as the Philadelphia Business Journal, Residential Architect, The New York Times, Computer Graphics World, and The Wall Street Journal.

Chris Bauer

Chris Bauer is a Principal and Multi-Family & Mixed-Use Practice Leader at Ci Design, an award-winning design firm providing planning architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and graphic design services. Chris serves multiple roles at Ci Design, from conceptualizing and master-planning retail, entertainment, mixed-use, multi-family residential and hospitality projects to business development and client management operations. Chris draws upon almost three decades of experience in retail, entertainment, mixed-use, multi-family residential, and hospitality projects. He brings depth and experience to his role, building strong client relationships with clients to provide the firm’s services to its domestic and international commercial clients.

His varied project experience includes such noteworthy projects as the $200 million redevelopment of North Hills in Raleigh, and the expansion of the JC Penney parcel at North Hills, that is currently under construction. Other major projects in North Carolina include a major mixed-use development known as CenterPoint in Wilmington, NC, and Aura-branded Chapel Hill, a mixed-use development encompassing 361 apartments and 57 townhomes, with office, retail, and amenity spaces.

Additionally, Chris is a member of the American Institute of Architects, International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), and serves on the Advisory Board of the Urban Land Institute (ULI).

Caitlin Shelby is the Director for the Raleigh-Durham office of Wood Partners. In this role, she manages the sourcing, financing, and development of multifamily communities in eastern North Carolina and Virginia.

Prior to joining Wood Partners, Ms. Shelby managed nearly 2 million square feet of development for Boston Properties and The JBG Companies in Washington, DC. Ms. Shelby began her career working in corporate finance and project management at the New York City Economic Development Corporation.

Ms. Shelby received her MBA from the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School, with a concentration in Real Estate Development and Real Estate Finance. She graduated from Fordham University with her BS in Business Administration. Ms. Shelby is a member of the UNC Kenan-Flagler Leonard W. Wood Center for Real Estate Studies Advisory Board, ULI Regional Initiative Council for the Carolinas, and ULI Women’s Leadership Initiative Steering Committee for the Triangle.

In November 2018, Nish transitioned from her role as a venture banking analyst (with Square 1 Bank) to form Lennox and Grae, Inc. (CRE investment firm). LGI has raised $29.2M in combined equity and debt to acquire and redevelop nearly 135,000 sf of commercial real estate in the historic downtown corridors of Durham, NC and Rocky Mount, NC. With a vision to "buy it , and build it" she formed Lennox and Grae Construction, Inc. in November 2020 to expand in-house service offerings for commercial construction management and general contracting. The firm has secured $49.8M in combined public and private partnerships.

Alex King

Director, Acquisitions

TruAmerica Multifamily

Alex King serves as the Director of Acquisitions at TruAmerica Multifamily, ranked 25 th on

NMHC’s 2023 list of largest apartment owners in the United States. TruAmerica focuses

primarily on acquiring and operating suburban garden-style and mid-rise complexes, often with

a renovation component.

Based in the firm’s Washington DC-area office, Mr. King has oversight of all Acquisitions activity

on the east coast for TruAmerica, covering nearly every major and secondary market between

Boston and Miami. During his time at TruAmerica Mr. King has led the acquisition of over 10,000

units across 34 properties totaling $2.3 billion in value, including TruAmerica’s four acquisitions

in Greater Boston since late 2020. Mr. King holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Bentley

University and an MBA from Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business.

Nick Hathaway

Nick Hathaway joined Hathaway Development Partners in 2007 after working in multi-family brokerage for

multiple years. During that time, he was responsible for underwriting, market analysis and financial analysis,

within a team that focused on institutional grade multi-family transactions at Marcus and Millichap. Nick then

went on to close approximately $80M worth of multi-family assets as a standalone agent. Nick has also

represented principals in land acquisitions of a broker. Nick Hathaway attended NYU and Kennesaw State

University with a focus on Business Management and Economics.

While working at Hathaway Development as Director of Development Nick worked with the development

team to lead all new development projects from initial concept planning through construction completion.

Nick has been responsible for developing a conceptual plan for each new development, preparing and

managing construction and working internally with HD and Hathaway Constructions Services with budgets

and schedules, coordinating all of Hathaway Developments in-house resources, and managing external

design/construction/municipal relationships acting as Hathaway Developments representative. Nick and the

Development company are heavily involved in the initial due diligence, preconstruction planning and design

phases, obtaining necessary approvals for zoning and permitting, and remains actively engaged in the

oversight of construction performance and draw administration until final certificates of occupancy have

been granted.

Nick and the entire Hathaway Development company have worked together to successfully develop

multifamily projects ranging from Texas throughout the Carolinas.

Ken Mendez

Ken Mendez started in the built environment solutions in 1996, and has worked in several capacities in the Architecture & Design industry. Gaining expertise from a multitude of teams and manufacturers, he has served as a District Account Manager for both Kimball and Teknion, then moving on to Vice President of Sales for both Office Pavilion, and Workplace Solutions. For three years, Ken was the Regional Director for Knoll for the Houston Region. He currently utilizes his expertise in the multifamily market at Division Six and CORE Office Interiors in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. His bold approach puts people, process, and technology at the forefront of his go-to-market strategy. Ken excels at his job because of the care and growth he provides for his clients and employees to maximize their potential and ensure they each have the solutions and tools they need to succeed.
