Betsy Vohs

CEO & Founder

Studio BV

Betsy founded Studio BV in 2015 in order to dedicate her ideas and energy to clients who want transformational design solutions. Transformational design comes from investigating the places, contexts, and people that will be shaped by the design. How people feel, what they touch, how they interact — these human experiences are central elements of design.

Vohs’s background in interior design and architecture gives her a distinct perspective on how to approach design problems. As a result, her work has been featured in local and national publications and has won multiple design awards.

Vohs is passionate about giving back to the design community, often by working with the next generation of architects and designers. Vohs taught design as an instructor at the University

of Minnesota, lectured at South Dakota State University, and acted as guest design critic at the University of Minnesota, Dunwoody College, and South Dakota State University. Vohs started Design Forward a pro-bono division of the firm’s practice that is focused on doing design work for mission driven organizations.

Vohs’s other outreach work includes serving as a board member of the University of Minnesota Alumni Associations Board of Directors. She is also a Board member of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Minnesota and the Dakotas chapter. She has served as the Alumni Board President of the University of

Minnesota College of Design and on the University of Minnesota Alumni Association Collegiate Council, as well as a board member of the YMCA of Greater Twin Cities Community Board for Minneapolis. She has lectured and been a juror for regional and international design competitions.

Vohs was named Contract Magazine’s 2020 Designer to Know in their March 2020

issue. Her work has been featured in numerous publications including, Architecture MN, Contract Magazine, Interior Design Magazine, numerous online journals, and Interior Design Magazine’s Best of Design book released in December 2019.

Kelly Manke

SVP, Commercial Real Estate Banking

Bell Bank

My entire career has been focused on helping people in commercial real estate achieve their dreams of successful ownership. It’s a passion I’ve had since my early days as an undergrad. Stars aligned for me during an internship – and that was almost 2 decades ago. I feel fortunate to have discovered my professional passion so early on.

Now, I work every day with developers, real estate investors and entrepreneurs who are seeking to finance their projects – or need other banking services such as treasury management.

I’ve been in banking for more than 17 years and worked at U.S. Bank prior to joining Bell. In my work, my greatest reward is getting to know clients in the industry.

Originally from New Hope, Minn., I hold a bachelor’s degree in finance, investment and banking, as well as real estate and urban land economics, from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. I also earned an MBA at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

My husband and I live in the Twin Cities with our children. Away from the office, I most enjoy spending time relaxing with family and friends.

Andrea Jenkins

Vice President

Minneapolis City Council

Andrea Jenkins is the first Black transgender woman to be elected to public office in the United States. She was elected to the Minneapolis City Council with 73% of the vote. A poet and artist as well as a public official, Andrea is the author of the poetry collection, The T is Not Silent: New and Selected Poems (Purple Lioness Press, 2015), and contributor to the acclaimed anthologies Queer Voices: Poetry, Prose and Pride (Minnesota Historical Society Press, 2019), A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota (Minnesota Historical Society Press, 2016), and Blues Vision: African American Writing from Minnesota (Minnesota Historical Society Press, 2015). Jenkins is currently the Oral Historian for the Transgender Oral History Project at the University of Minnesota Libraries, documenting the lived experiences of transgender and gender nonconforming people in the Upper Midwest and the United States. Previously she worked for twelve years as a policy aide to two members of the Minneapolis City Council.

Discussing what made her campaign successful, Jenkins notes, “We didn’t shy away from my identity as a black woman, as a trans woman,” Jenkins told Minnesota Public Radio. “I have lived firsthand the oppressions that others only talk about, only think about. But that is not what we led with. That’s not what won us this race,” Jenkins added. Her platform framed all of her key issues in terms of equity: in public safety, transportation, and affordable housing, among other issues. “There is a very deep gap between whites and people of color. The disparities are present in healthcare, homeownership, employment … all of these issues.”. Minneapolis is one of America’s most racially segregated cities.

Jenkins holds a bachelor’s degree in human services, a master’s degree in community economic development, and an MFA in creative writing. She is the recipient of many awards, including a Bush Foundation Fellowship.

Why This Matters

What You’ll Learn:

The biggest challenge in commercial real estate for women continues to be underrepresentation. Statistically corporations who foster inclusivity make better decisions and are more profitable.  According to a recent report by CREW, companies in the top 25% for gender diversity are 15% more likely to have financial returns above their industry medians and innovation is six times higher at companies with the most equal workplace cultures. Yet, only an estimated 27% of senior level CRE roles are held by women.

  • What action plans need to be implemented to become a more equitable workplace?

  •  What strategies should be employed by organizations to create a clear plan to accelerate the advancement of women into leadership?

  • How could mentorship programs be developed to ensure opportunities for younger women in commercial real estate?

How You’ll Do More Business:

Research shows that when women advocate the advancement of other women, collectively all women are more successful. Meet inspiring  leaders, learn best practices to empower your network, and take your seat at the table as we shift the paradigm of the commercial real estate industry.

Who You'll Meet: Investors, developers, architects, brokers, tenants, and engineers.

Why You Should Attend:

Bisnow events bring together the biggest power players in the industry to identify opportunities, build your network and expand your business. With the largest audience of commercial real estate professionals in the world, no one knows how to help your business more than us. Join Bisnow as we jump into the market in Minneapolis to analyze its strengths and strategize on its areas of opportunity.
