Current Responsibilities

Brandon joined Hempel in 2024 as Executive Vice President of Development, where he is responsible for directing new development and investment activities of commercial and multifamily properties.

Previous Experience

Brandon was previously at United Properties from 2004 to 2024. He started as a retail broker and joined United’s development group in 2006. From 2006 to 2013, his notable projects included the historic Minneapolis Ford Center office renovation/conversion, Nicollet Mall Nieman Marcus office conversion, the Penn & American mixed-use redevelopment in Bloomington, MN, Bielenberg Gardens shopping center in Woodbury, MN, and headquarters projects for Be the Match and CH Robinson. He also acquired the Days Hotel in partnership with the University of Minnesota, which led to the formation of a joint venture partnership with the University of Minnesota Foundation to master plan the East Gateway campus into a future healthcare innovation district.

Brandon led United’s industrial development from 2014 to 2020. During this time, he developed approximately 6 million square feet of industrial space, valued at nearly $600 million, including the state’s most environmentally sustainable industrial building—the LEED Silver Midway Stadium Business Center. Beginning in 2016, Brandon led the planning of one of Minneapolis’ largest public-private projects, the 48-acre riverfront redevelopment of Upper Harbor, which will include a 20-acre park, affordable housing, an amphitheater, and advanced manufacturing space.

In 2020 Brandon was promoted to lead all of United’s commercial development and investments in the Twin Cities region.

Prior to United Properties, Brandon worked in the A&R Department for Def Jam Records in Hollywood, CA.

Professional and Community Involvement

Brandon’s industry achievements include Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal 40 Under 40, 2019 NAIOP Minnesota President, 2014‐2017 NAIOP Minnesota Public Policy Chair, past founder/chair of the Commercial Real Estate Diversity Collaborative, and volunteering for ULI’s Urban Plan program—teaching high school kids about the complexities and tradeoffs in real estate redevelopment.

Education

Brandon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in entrepreneurial studies and finance, with a minor in marketing from the University of Minnesota-Carlson School of Management.

The Wall Companies is a collection of privately-held real estate-related development and management companies. The principals, have a combined 60+ years of real estate experience, mostly in the Twin Cities.

The Wall Companies has substantial expertise in designing, constructing, and financing successful real estate development projects. Over the years the company has developed, owned and/or renovated over 1,200 apartment/condominium units, and over 2 million square feet of retail, office, and industrial property. The Wall Companies was involved in the development of Metro Office Park and Normandale Lakes Office Park in Bloomington. The Wall Companies has considerable experience building teams of diverse private and public partners to complete its development projects.

More recently Wall Companies completed residential real estate projects including East Side Apartments, Western Row Condominiums and Crocus New Hill in St. Paul, Flour Sack Flats Condominiums, Stone Arch Apartments, and Stone Arch Apartments 2, and Mill City Quarter Apartments, in Minneapolis. Wall Companies are currently developing Malcolm Yards, a 20-acre mixed use development adjacent to the Minneapolis Campus of the University of Minnesota, in the Towerside Innovation District. This project currently contemplates 500,000+ SF of high-tech office & laboratory buildings along with several housing and retail buildings, including the Malcolm Yards Market (Urban Food Hall), conveniently located at the new Prospect Park Light Rail Station.

John Wall is a 1984 graduate of the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. He is active in a variety of industry-related organizations including the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP), the Minnesota Commercial Association of Realtors (MNCAR), the MN/SD Chapter of the Certified Commercial Investment Managers (CCIM). He is responsible for overseeing real estate development and management of The Wall Companies portfolio. Mr. Wall is a licensed real estate broker and is a principal in Republic Management Company and Kenzie Management Group, which manage several area office and retail properties.

John Wall is also a shareholder and on the Board of Directors of Highland Bank a $550 million Community Bank, headquartered in Highland Park.

He enjoys many outside interests including sailing, skiing, hockey, and travelling. John and his wife, Patricia, have two teen age children.

Mark Evenson is a starter. Over the span of his 30-year career, he helped start

two new branch offices for local companies, The Griffin Companies and United

Properties. More importantly, Mark has introduced four national commercial real

estate brands to the Twin Cities – launching offices for Cushman & Wakefield,

The Staubach Company, DTZ, and, most recently, Avison Young. His passion

and success for building and managing cohesive teams amongst independently

minded commercial real estate professionals has generated double digit

increases in local market revenues at multiple firms while, at the same time,

helping his clients make real estate decisions that support their businesses.

Under Mark’s leadership and firm commitment to serve as a fixer for clients, his

brokerage teams have been singled out for numerous top achievement awards.

For businesses large and small, Mark brings his specializations in site

selection, portfolio and transaction management, strategic planning and

negotiations to benefit client organizations. Mark knows his clients like to win,

and his reputation for eliminating surprises brings clients back for more.

Importantly, and perhaps born from his first work experience of detasseling corn

and walking bean fields on the family farm, Mark values a strong work

ethic…and lives it day in and day out. “It’s my goal to bring value to my clients.

While transaction terms and the physical plant are important, in the end, I want

them to evoke a great experience that transcends a real estate project,” says

Mark.

Finally, Mark’s work has been recognized by our business community. He’s

earned multiple “Top Achiever” awards at four different commercial real estate

firms. He doesn’t sit still, and is involved in and/or credentialed by:

Paul co-founded Hyde Development in 2012 with his father, Mac, to redevelop brownfield sites into new, sustainable, and quality buildings. Prior to launching Hyde Development, Paul co-founded Real Estate Recycling in 1995 to develop contaminated property in MN and WI.

Paul is responsible for leading the company’s current development projects and acquisitions.

For 25 years, Chris has been actively engaged in the development of leading-edge communities. He

has worked in over two hundred cities around the world, and has been a leader in the creation of over

$1 billion in new mixed-use, specialty facilities. In early 2013, Chris and PLACE cofounder,

Elizabeth Bowling, filed a U.S. Patent Application for E-Generation, a renewable energy process that

powers communities from renewable energy and waste.

Chris has led PLACE in the development of new models for urban neighborhoods that demonstrate

radical innovation in environmental design, live/work hubs for creatives and creative businesses, job

creation through retail and manufacturing, affordable workforce housing, and supportive housing for

the most economically distressed. Chris works for each PLACE project to reflect the highest

community ideals, create beautiful and inspiring places, lift people out of poverty, empower

community participation, and provide equal opportunity -- all while generating economic return,

creative and green-collar jobs, and renewable energy.

An innovator in the area of housing cooperatives, he worked to develop some of the nation’s early

leasehold housing cooperatives for artists. In 1991, he began work on the economic revitalization of

the Lowertown area of Saint Paul, Minnesota. Over several years, Chris worked on three major

properties, catalyzing the renaissance of Lowertown, preserving national monuments, and creating

jobs, opportunities for small businesses, affordable homes, and live/work cooperatives.

Chris' projects have won numerous awards from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the

American Institute of Architects and more. He is a frequent keynote speaker and lecturer in the areas

of sustainable communities, the arts, live/work communities, ethical development, community and

economic revitalization and the environment. Chris has addressed the AIA, the National Summit on

Arts and the Environment, Americans for the Arts, NACCED, Urban Land Institute, LISC,

Renaissance Weekend, Detroit Public Schools, HUD, and many more.  In 2009, he was awarded the

Mayor’s Arts Award, and a fellowship to Stanford’s Center for Social Innovation.

Todd has worked in the architectural field for over 35 years. As the firm’s founding partner, he has worked

tirelessly to build and maintain a solid reputation as a leader in developing creative, efficient and cost effective

design solutions. These solutions are applied to the renovation, relocation and new building design of corporate,

industrial, healthcare, multi-family, government and financial facilities. Todd believes that his firm’s dedication

to open communication and quality service are major contributing factors that have helped grow the firm to

the nearly 50 employees it is today. That coupled with the over-arching commitment to providing innovative

design solutions while creating lasting relationships has provided Mohagen Hansen Architecture | Interiors the

opportunity to work on many high profile projects throughout the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

Dave Hammargren has been representing contractors, sureties, subcontractors, design professionals, owners and lenders in all types of construction and surety litigation and arbitration for more than 30 years.

He represents:

Sureties with respect to bid, performance, payment and miscellaneous commercial bond claims, and indemnity actions.

Contractors, subcontractors and suppliers with respect to mechanics’ liens, bond claims and other efforts to collect payment for completed work, and, also, in defense of claims from owners and others of defective or incomplete performance

Project owners in connection with claims against contractors and design professionals for negligence and breach of contract, including construction defects

Dave drafts, reviews and negotiates construction-related contracts and frequently acts as an arbitrator or mediator to assist other parties in resolving their disputes. He is active in the industry, having served on the Board of the Minnesota Chapter of the Construction Management Association of America and the Board of the Associated General Contractors of Minnesota.

Dave frequently writes and speaks to construction, surety and professional organizations on relevant legal issues and developments.
