For over 40 years I have focused on the programming, planning, and design of healthcare projects in the US, Europe and the Middle East. My commitment has always been to innovation, patient safety, flexibility/adaptability and helping our clients reduce medical errors within the healthcare environments. I am committed to design that promotes healing, is sensitive to patient, family and staff needs and appeals to the senses.

The idea we are people before we are architects, patients, or physicians gives my work a particular charge. Focus on the human experience helps me guide clients as we explore ways to create environments that promote healing and comfort for patients and their families and safe, nurturing working conditions for providers.

Design has such a fundamental impact on the quality of the healthcare delivered that it requires careful execution. One of the most difficult tasks to face when looking at issues faced by clients is to determine the right question to be asked and answered. Answering the right question incorrectly obviously gives the wrong answer. But answering the wrong question correctly still results in a wrong answer. In many case it is very difficult to pose the right question, By helping clients correctly identify the question to be addressed and then bringing all of the resources to bear required to answer it correctly that I measure success.

With reimbursement changing from volume to value based and an increased focus on quality outcomes, identifying the best clinical practices is essential. The rapidly changing application of technology, wearables, big data, etc, has a major effect. Application of LEAN process principles inform the planning activities. During this time of system transformation and geographical growth for

Cedars Sinai, Alicia is responsible for the management and leadership of

capital projects related to the health system’s expansion, the Medical

Delivery Network growth, and the built platforms supporting care delivery transformation. Her

responsibilities include hands on work with Real-Estate strategies that support the robust portfolio of

new clinical space. Since 1995, Wachtel has dedicated her career to Healthcare Design. Prior to joining

Cedars-Sinai in 2017, Alicia Wachtel was a Principal in the Los Angeles office of HOK.

Wachtel’s professional career has been focused on the delivery of complex replacement projects and

the multiple delivery methodologies associated with them, including hospital P3s.

Alicia holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Urban Design from the Technion, Israel Institute of

Technology, where she transferred from the School of Architecture, Universidad del Estado,

Montevideo - Uruguay.

JJohn Pollock is Chief Financial Officer and Managing Director at Meridian. Mr. Pollock is responsible for

the capital markets, financing, and operational functions of Meridian. He works with his executive

leadership team on the company’s strategy and operations. Before his most recent role, Mr. Pollock

served as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer.

With more than 30 years of knowledge shaped by a wide range of experiences in commercial and

residential real estate development, Mr. Pollock has proven his ability to lead, manage and develop

highly effective cross functional teams. Prior to joining Meridian in 2006, Mr. Pollock served as General

Manager for national home builder Centex Homes where he was responsible for all land development,

construction and sales in Santa Fe, New Mexico. From 1997 to 2003, Mr. Pollock served as Vice

President of Bovis Lend Lease, a leading international project management and construction company

operating in more than thirty countries. At Bovis, Mr. Pollock’s responsibilities included managing

finance, project controls and risk management and he was involved in a wide range of transactions in

size, scope, and geography.

Notable developments Mr. Pollock has been involved in include, Santana Row in San Jose, CA, Four

Seasons Hotel in San Francisco, CA, Lincoln Square in Bellevue, WA and the Privatization of Fort Hood

Family Housing in Killeen, TX.

John is a member of Urban Land Institute (ULI) and sits on the ULI Health Care and Life Science Council.

He also serves on the HREI Editorial Advisory Board and is a Certified Public Accountant. John Received a

Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from St. Mary’s College.

Nancy Moses serves as Principal with Trammell Crow Company, where she leads project

execution within the Los Angeles business unit. Specializing in client management, Nancy helps

occupiers identify and implement real estate solutions, and is sought after by clients for her ability

to drive decision-making consensus and then convert that shared vision into a turnkey delivery.

In her tenure at TCC, Nancy has successfully delivered over 1.7 million square feet of office and

healthcare developments within the greater Los Angeles area, with more than 750,000 square feet

anticipated to commence construction in 2023. Nancy was recognized as Commercial Property

Executive’s Stars to Watch in 2020, and one of Real Estate Forum’s 2022 Women of Influence.

Recent projects include the Vermont Corridor County Administration building, MLK Medical Office

Building, Engemann Student Health Center on the USC Campus, and the USC Keck School of

Medicine Soto Health Science Building.

Ireland’s loss was Southern California’s gain. The co-founder of our company is the garrulous Irishman John Parker. On the surface, he is an easy-going gentleman. On the job, he is all business.

John Parker co-founded Parker Brown, Inc. in 1994 with Scott Brown. The two set the “get the job done” tone for the company’s construction operations and corporate management.

Leaving Ireland for the U.S. in 1989, John owned and operated John Parker Building Ltd., a residential remodeling firm. After relocating his family to Los Angeles, John was the construction manager at a Los Angeles area commercial construction company until the inception of Parker Brown, Inc. in 1994.

John and Scott are personally involved in every project that Parker Brown, Inc. is awarded. They provide oversight from the job site or from the corporate office, and, in a lot of cases, from both.

John is deeply involved in the communities he serves. He is the past president of the Canoga Park/West Hills Chamber of Commerce, former president of the Canoga Park Improvement Association, a past member of the Oversight Committee on the Bond Program of Pierce College, and executive vice president of the Women’s Odyssey, a residential drug and alcohol recovery program. Currently, he is a commissioner serving on the Los Angeles County Building Rehabilitation & Appeals Board, and is presently the president of the United Chamber of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley.

Andrew Selesnick is a Shareholder in Buchalter’s Los Angeles office, and is a member of the Firm’s

Litigation and Health Care Practice Groups. With more than 20 years of experience as a health care and

commercial litigator, Mr. Selesnick represents health care providers in numerous areas of litigation, such as

seeking reimbursement from insurance companies or defending government investigations. He also advises

management on how to successfully navigate a complex regulatory environment to take advantage of

business opportunities while minimizing risk. Mr. Selesnick has taken approximately 15 jury trials (to

verdict), multiple bench trials, and more than 75 arbitrations.

Jason leads the pursuit and management of all healthcare related projects for Bernards including hospitals, medical office buildings, skilled nursing facilities, and VA healthcare. With a thorough understanding of HCAI procedures and three decades of experience, including over 70 OSHPD/HCAI projects, he excels in building strong collaborative teams that deliver successful outcomes in this specialized market sector.

Originally from Santa Ynez, California, Jason holds a BS degree in Biochemistry from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and is a certified OSHPD Class A Hospital Inspector. He is also a member of the American Society of Healthcare Engineers.

Michael, a EwingCole principal, is Director of the firm’s West Coast Healthcare Practice. With more than 30 years of experience, he specializes in OSHPD-certified healthcare projects. He has planned and designed complex and large-scale replacement hospitals, as well as renovations of small rural community facilities. He is well versed in all phases of project development from strategic planning through completion of construction.

Michael has a passion for collaborative team building, lean process, and integrated project delivery (IPD) techniques. He is proud of using lean-IPD methods to deliver one of Sacramento’s most significant healthcare projects. Michael believes that complex healthcare projects are successful only when the team finds ways to work together cooperatively and together find ways to eliminate waste in the design and construction process.

Erik Chessmore is a Vice President, Project Executive for the Southern California Region

of McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. based in Newport Beach, CA. In his current role

Erik is responsible for the overall management and direction of preconstruction and

construction efforts on numerous Healthcare projects. This includes maintaining client

relations, assisting project estimating and scheduling, managing field staff, overseeing

project safety and total quality management.

Erik has over 21 years in the industry and has worked on many McCarthy Healthcare

projects throughout the region, in a variety of different capacities.

Erik holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Loyola Marymount

University and enjoys spending his free Surfing, Mountain Biking and any kind of

activity with his family.

Eric Meub, AIA, LEED AP, design principal in HDR’s Los Angeles architecture studio, is an award-winning practice leader with 37 years of experience. The past 25 of those years have been dedicated to master planning, medical planning and the design of large, complex healthcare and academic projects. He has led the design and/or master planning for such world-renowned academic medical centers as Stanford University, the University of California and MD Anderson Cancer Center, as well as healthcare systems including Sutter Health and Kaiser Permanente. Eric also excels at planning and designing for local and federal government agencies including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
