Richard brings over 17 years’ investment track record, having transacted in excess of £2 billion in UK real estate. Richard’s primary responsibility is expansion of the Knowledge Factory portfolio and asset management, utilising his strong network of contacts with UK institutions, property companies, occupiers and brokers.

Will has over 17 years industry experience in commercial real estate and has spent the past 5 years leading the evolution of the Life Science investment and asset management strategy at Royal London across the mandated funds. During this time RLAM have established a life science portfolio in excess of 1.5 million sq ft principally focussed across the Uk Golden Triangle.

Mr. Renn is the Vice President of Acquisitions and Development, Europe at Breakthrough Properties. Mr. Renn supports the firm’s expansion across key European life science markets. An experienced veteran in the development of life sciences spaces, Mr. Renn was previously Managing Director at Bruntwood SciTech where his portfolio included Manchester Science Park, Citylabs, Circle Square and the £1.5bn ID Manchester re-development project. Mr. Renn’s extensive knowledge of the life sciences sector enabled him to lead the successful growth of the firm’s Manchester-based projects through a strategic combination of development and acquisition. Prior to Bruntwood, Mr. Renn held leadership positions at Manchester Science Partnerships.

Mr. Renn has also held positions with several industry organizations, including board posts on The Oxford Road Corridor and The Manchester China Forum. He was also a member of the Industry Advisory Board for the Ada National Digital Skills College. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Commercial Management & Quantity Surveying from The University of Manchester.

Robert Crawley Co-founded Lateral in 2020 and driving the business to over £200 in AUM, and £50m in disposals by forging investor relationships and generating opportunities.

Robert is responsible for managing the business’s capital markets strategy and driving its investment and asset management activities.

He is an experienced, pan-European real estate investor with a long track record in bottom-up, opportunity led strategies. His passion for property investment is demonstrated through his detailed knowledge of the markets and their characteristics. Robert is also a regular at industry events opining on the market and entrepreneurial.

Max Bryan is Head of Science & Technology at Bidwells, the UK’s leading adviser to the sector for over 50 years. From helping Trinity College establish the first Science Park in the UK, to working on more than 60 science and tech hubs over the past five years, Bidwells’ Science & Technology team combines deep sector expertise with market-leading research to drive innovation in real estate.

Max also leads Cambridge’s top office and laboratory agency team at Bidwells, where he has negotiated landmark purchase and lease deals for some of the world’s largest tech companies, supporting their R&D expansion in the Cambridge cluster.

Candice leads our Healthcare and Life Science Real Estate team advising on Hospitals (NHS and Private), Care Homes, GP polyclinics, and lab facilities throughout the UK. She specialises in large scale investment and development transactions acting for the private and public sectors. She has acted regularly on repeat investment from US REITS, international Private Equity investors and UK pension funds, on complex UK cross border real estate acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, institutional investments, and urban regeneration mixed use developments.

Sue leads a dynamic programme of research, working closely with academics and sector

specialists. Much of her work is focused on the real estate implications of the science and

technology sector. This includes the Bidwells Life Science 2030 research programme which

encompasses a study undertaken in conjunction with YouGov investigating the location drivers

of R&D businesses.

Sue’s academic background spans the finance, planning and environmental fields. She started

her career in academia working on planning and urban design publications at the Center for

Urban Policy Research, Rutgers University, USA.

She holds an MSc in Property Investment & Finance from Bayes Business School, an MS in

Planning and Urban Policy from Rutgers University and a BSc in Rural Environment Studies.

Appointed as Director of Cambridge Science Park in August 2022, Jane Hutchins brings a wealth of

experience of the science park sector and the innovative companies and people it serves.

Jane is also chair of the Cambridge Forum for Place, established by Cambridge University Health

Partners and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, and chair of Anglia Ruskin

University’s business advisory board.

Working in partnership with Trinity College Cambridge and managing agents Bidwells, Jane is

responsible for delivering the College’s future vision for the Science Park. This includes an ambitious

new cycle of investment focused on sustainability, amenity enhancement and the creation of diverse

and inclusive employment opportunities for the wider Cambridge community. Jane also plays a key role

in supporting existing and new businesses on the Park, which is at the heart of one of the best-known

and economically successful science, technology and innovation ecosystems in the world – Cambridge.

Vipul leads facilities operations at AviadoBio, a pioneering gene therapy company in Canary Wharf developing life-changing treatments for frontotemporal dementia and ALS. With over two decades of experience across academic and commercial sectors, including Barts Cancer Institute, he brings unique insights into optimizing laboratory operations.

His expertise in laboratory design and operational excellence drives the creation of state-of-the-art research facilities where innovation thrives. At AviadoBio, he has successfully implemented digital solutions to streamline operations while maintaining the highest safety standards.

As part of Canary Wharf's growing life sciences ecosystem, Vipul leverages his cross-sector experience to develop scalable laboratory spaces that meet both current and future research needs.

Mairi leads ecosystem development for Canary Wharf Life Sciences. Canary Wharf is already home to over 40 life science and healthcare businesses and CL2/CL3 labs. We aspire to become a globally recognised life science ecosystem in East London.

Mairi has a wealth of experience in early-stage tech fundraising, project management and outward facing relationship building (public and private sector). She began her career in major government-sponsored infrastructure projects before moving into the innovation and entrepreneurship landscape. As Head of Operations for a venture capital backed bio-tech start-up, she gained broad business experience bringing a product to market and fundraising both in the U.K. and abroad. Through her roles within the Catapult Network, Smart Specialisation Hub, Innovate UK’s Knowledge Transfer Network and most recently, establishing and leading Kadan’s national ecosystem strategy, Mairi has built a deep understanding of how to link the research, commercial and investment worlds.

Matthew has over 20-years’ experience working within the Higher Education and Science and Technology sectors for both public institutions and private industry. Having spent the last 7 years establishing Hawkins\Brown’s first US studio, Matthew has a unique global perspective on academic and research trends through his work for leading academic institutions such as the University of Oxford, Northwestern University in Chicago and UC San Diego. Matthew is a keen advocate for innovation, championing social and environmentally sustainable design alongside research-driven solutions and modern methods of construction.

Tim leads the science business area, across the UKIMEA region for Arup. He leads on strategy and

business development, maintains relationships with clients and manages a portfolio of projects.

Tim is a chartered engineer and experienced team leader, having led multi-discipline teams in

delivering engineering solutions on complex highly serviced buildings from concept design phases

through to fully coordinated detail design and construction.

He has been involved in science buildings from his first project over 28 years ago, working on the

design and construction of a facility to produce injectable vaccines. As well as other manufacturing

projects experience, Tim has been involved in the design of many research and development

laboratories for a range of science users and scales of project. These have been for private clients,

government institutes and higher education establishments.

Tim thrives in solving client’s challenges bringing a wealth of experience to provide robust, energy

efficient and sustainable design solutions, applying his knowledge of construction, commissioning

and maintenance.

Adam Rasmussen Arda is an Operations Manager at LBIC, a leading life science incubator in central London, drawing from his background in research, he oversees the seamless delivery of high-quality lab facilities and services. With a strong focus on environmental sustainability and operational efficiency, Adam ensures safe working environments, tailors lab spaces to meet bespoke client needs, and upholds ISO quality assurance standards. A key aspect of his role involves developing policies and implementing strategies to minimise the environmental impact of lab operations. Passionate about sustainable lab design, Adam is dedicated to shaping greener, more adaptable research spaces for the future.

BIO: Pierre-Etienne holds a master’s degree in civil engineering and an MSc in International Finance. He started his career in the Real Estate Acquisition team at Blackstone where he worked on Hospitality, Logistics and Residential acquisitions across Europe. His interest in complex single asset repositioning and strong desire to be part of the urban development process of European Capitals led him to join Oxford Properties Development Team in June 2020. Since then, Pierre-Etienne has been an active member of the EU Life Science & Office Team working on the acquisition and execution of Victoria House, a 300,000 SF office to Life Science conversation project and Cambridge Science Park Unit 310, a 50,000 SF Life Science asset located in the north of Cambridge, leased to Astra Zeneca till end of 2024 and now undergoing refurbishment.

An architect by training, Sally has a reputation for bringing great creativity, innovation and attention to detail to every project she works on, including some of HDR’s most high-profile education, science, workplace, and mixed-use projects around the globe. In her role as Education & Science leader, she directs and executes regional project leadership, strategic planning and business development efforts to help life science corporations and developers achieve their missions and goals.

Sam is a Design and Development Director at Reef Group, a pioneering developer with a strong portfolio in the Life Sciences sector. A qualified Architect with over 20 years of experience delivering awarding winning buildings and places Sam leads many of Reef Groups science and technology projects in London and the UK including Cavendish Square, a unique healthcare-led development at the entrance to Harley Street in Westminster. Recent projects Sam has led include the design of a life sciences campus at the Westbrook Centre in Cambridge and a soon to complete technology campus in the City of Gloucester. Prior to joining Reef he designed and delivered many commercial projects including London Wall Place in the City of London and a number of secondary and higher education projects whilst teaching at schools of architecture including Cambridge and the Architectural Association.

Oli King is the Development and Leasing Director at Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst (SBC) where he supports the growing cluster of 45 therapeutics companies and continues to lead on all disposals across the asset portfolio.

Prior to SBC, Oli has over 20 years’ experience in the Central London office market advising on development, refurbishment, leasing strategy, acquisitions, and disposals. Previous clients include Procter & Gamble, Microsoft, Giorgio Armani & Moet Hennessy.

Aja is a Development Director who joined Stanhope in 2023. She is passionate about delivering world-class, large-scale developments, taking a diverse and inclusive approach.

Aja holds an honours degree in Civil Engineering and a Graduate Diploma of Law (Law conversion) and previously worked at Lendlease and SRM, specifically on developments such as Bloomberg London and One Bishopsgate Plaza. She has also spent time in the commercial, residential and health care sectors across UK and Australia.

Aja is currently working on our Oxford North development and at the grow-on lab spaces at White City Place.

Trevor is a Preconstruction Director within the Construction Business Unit of Bouygues UK, based in London. A Chartered Surveyor with a keen interest in innovation and sustainability, he has amassed more than 40 years’ experience across all aspects of the construction industry, including Higher Education and Healthcare. Trevor now spearheads Bouygues’ growing presence in the Science and Research sector. He has played a key role in helping to finesse the Company’s business strategy, working closely with laboratory and clean room specialists Bouygues Energies & Services and development management colleagues at Linkcity to develop and promote a distinct and differentiated offering to the market.

Simon is a Director at Bennetts Associates, a renowned UK practice celebrated for its pioneering sustainability initiatives.

Simon's passion derives from architecture’s potential to positively influence life in towns and cities. He works with clients in the property, science, education and culture sectors where projects include devising masterplans and designing hybrid workspaces, retrofitting listed buildings and creating vibrant all-day cultural venues. Simon continues to spearhead Bennetts Associates' innovative approach, with his recent projects which include Tribeca, a mixed-use campus for life sciences in the heart of London's Knowledge Quarter and Manchester's first net-zero carbon hotel tower.

Simon has successfully led some of the practice's most notable projects, including RIBA National Award-winning schemes at Shaftesbury Theatre and the Royal College of Pathologists in London and Storyhouse in Chester, and has recently led a research project on net-zero labs prototypes.

Emily has over 20 years’ experience and joined Savills in 2024 as Head of the Oxford Project Management Team and as a Building & Project Consultancy lead in the science and technology sector.

Emily has a considerable track record in science and technology developments, with a particular expertise in speculative projects. Emily remains at the forefront of the sector, engaging in thought-leadership, and retains a strong understanding of the market.

Emily’s experience, diligence, strategic mind and creativity provides a real asset to the evolution and delivery of successful development projects and her passion and collaborative nature facilitates motivated and cohesive project teams.

Suki Balendra a senior leader in the NHS with a 20-year background in facilitating, growing,

and promoting health research in the U.K. She has substantial, in-depth experience across

sectors including industry, academia, NHS, and central government.

She is currently the Life Sciences Lead for the clinical research network in Northwest

London. She leads the strategic work with the Life sciences industry in the region. She started

her career in the Biotechnology Industry at Abbott Diagnostics Ltd. Within a Good

manufacturing practice (GMP) environment she worked on several operational projects to

improve efficiency, cost, and reproducibility.

She focused her clinical research career within the Diabetes Research Network (DRN) at

Imperial College in a national role. The DRN was in the early stages of development when

she joined. She was integral to the setup of the network, from creating and establishing new

governance structures to working with the charity sector in creating a patient registry to

support recruitment of diabetes studies. As the Industry and portfolio lead at the DRN she had

direct responsibility for building and maintaining strategic partnerships with life science

companies with exceptional success in bringing more research opportunities in diabetes into

the U. K.

In 2018 she was seconded to the Office of Life Sciences within the Department of Business

and Industrial Strategy. where she attracted and negotiated new business to increase the UK’s

market share of health and care research activity. During the pandemic she provided

operational leadership to the NHS covid vaccine research response in Northwest London.

Suki has PhD from the University of Warwick, and she is accredited to black belt in Lean Six

Sigma. She is a passionate advocate for UK PLC as the number one destination to conduct

clinical trials.

Oliver is a partner in our Corporate group in London, and leads the firm’s private equity real estate offering.

With over 20 years of experience, Oliver has worked on a wide variety of transactions in the real estate and infrastructure space, including joint ventures, club deals, major developments, strategic M&A (both public and private) and restructurings. He has guided clients through structuring and executing their real estate investments in most European jurisdictions.

Oliver’s expertise spans most real asset classes, having assisted clients acquire or operate not just traditional property types such as offices, shopping centres, logistics warehouses and residential assets (including student housing), but also real estate-intensive businesses and/or infrastructure assets, such as hotels, hospitals, data centres, schools, science parks and football clubs.
