President & CEO

Duke Realty

James B. (Jim) Connor is President and Chief Executive Officer of Duke Realty Corporation. Duke Realty is one of the largest owners and developers of commercial property in the United States and a NYSE-listed company with more than $7 billion in assets. Mr. Connor serves as head of the company’s Executive Committee, overseeing the strategic direction of the company and its Investment Committee, with responsibility for approving major capital transactions.

Jim is a member of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) and the Marshall Bennett Institute Advisory Board at Roosevelt University.

Mark Miles

President and Chief Executive Officer

Hulman & Company

Mark D. Miles is President and Chief Executive Officer of Hulman & Company, comprised of

Clabber Girl, Georgetown Realty, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, INDYCAR, IMS Productions, and

various other business entities.

Prior to joining Hulman, from January 2006 through December 2012, Miles was President

and Chief Executive Officer of Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, Inc. (“CICP”), a non-profit,

regional alliance of corporate CEOs and university presidents focused on long-term growth and

economic development throughout the Central Indiana region, including strategic priorities as

wide-ranging as human capital (education), entrepreneurship and innovation, government reform,

and mass transit.

In 2008, Miles led a successful effort to earn Indianapolis the right to host Super Bowl XLVI.

He was Chairman of the Board of the 2012 Super Bowl Host Committee, with 18 staff members and

thousands of volunteers, and which served as an extension of the National Football League in the

local community to centralize planning and execution of the 2012 Super Bowl event.

In conjunction with the 2012 Super Bowl, Miles spearheaded a civic effort known as the

Legacy Project to effect positive change throughout the surrounding community. Legacy Project

work done on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis created a lasting legacy and impact far beyond

game week – with special emphasis on Youth Education Town and revitalization of the East 10th

Street business district.

From August 1990 through 2005, Miles was Chief Executive Officer of the Association of

Tennis Professionals (“ATP”). While there, Miles built the ATP into a world-class, professional

organization, stabilized a sport that was struggling to compete with other sports and entertainment

entities, posted impressive revenue gains, launched innovative marketing initiatives, and expanded

its global presence through successful events in Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.

During his years with the ATP, prize money rose from $47million to $85million, and long-

term commercial sponsorships were put into place, with Mercedes-Benz being established as the

ATP’s Premium Partner in 1996. He helped to forge closer ties with the game’s other governing

bodies and, along with the ITF, helped return tennis to the Olympics and strengthened the sport’s

prominence through the awarding of ATP ranking points for the competition.

In 1984, Miles was chosen to organize and produce the Pan American Games, scheduled to

be held in Indianapolis in 1987. As President of the organizing body, he led the $100 million event

with 38,000 volunteers and staged the most successful Pan Am Games in history.

From 1985 until 1990, Miles was President and volunteer Tournament Director of the ATP

Indianapolis tournament, where he oversaw its transition from clay to hard courts, while doubling

revenues through record ticket sales and sponsor support. Under his leadership, the tournament

was awarded the first of 10 consecutive ATP Tournament of the Year awards – an award chosen by

the players.

From 1988 to 1990, Miles served as Executive Director of Corporate Relations for Eli Lilly

and Company, an international pharmaceutical, medical instrument and agricultural chemical

company headquartered in Indianapolis.

Miles serves on numerous local civic and non-profit boards and committees.

Miles earned his bachelor’s degree from Wabash College, and is a member of the Wabash

College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Mark and his wife Helen have four children and four grandchildren and reside in

Indianapolis.

Jim Brainard

KEYNOTE

City of Carmel, Indiana

Mayor Jim Brainard is Carmel’s first six-term mayor. During his terms in office, Carmel has

grown in population from 25,000 to almost 90,000. Parkland, greenspace and trails have

increased. The development of an Arts & Design District, a downtown called City Center and a

new Midtown project joining the two together, has helped in the creation of a vibrant, thriving

city where companies want to locate, where employees want to live and where families want to

raise their children. Mayor Brainard is frequently asked to speak around the world about city

planning, climate change, redevelopment and roadway networks.

Mayor Brainard spearheaded the redevelopment in the Old Town area of Carmel into an Arts &

Design District, which has transformed a much neglected original center of town into a thriving

district with galleries, restaurants, shops and community events attracting thousands of visitors

each year as well as the attention of the national and international media.

As part of the City Center project to create a downtown for Carmel, Mayor Brainard

incorporated world-class cultural and entertainment venues. The Center for the Performing Arts

in City Center includes the Palladium, a state-of-the-art, 1,600-seat concert hall, The Tarkington,

a 500-seat proscenium theater and the 200-seat Studio Theater. Mayor Brainard was also

successful in gaining the talent of Michael Feinstein as the Artistic Director for the Center as

well as integrating the Great American Songbook Foundation and Songbook Academy into the

cultural options at the Center. All of these venues, including an outdoor amphitheater named

Rotary Centennial Plaza, opened in 2011.

Mayor Brainard has encouraged the construction of roundabouts, which reduced accidents with

injury almost 80 percent at intersections when contrasted to signalized intersections. The City

now has more than 100 roundabout intersections, the most of any other city in the United States.

Carmel has been honored with many awards for its high quality of life and environmental

initiatives. Carmel is among Money magazine’s Best Places to Live in America - #3 in 2014 and

#1 in 2012 for cities with a population of 50,000 – 300,000. In 2015, Carmel was recognized as

Community of the Year by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. The City was awarded first place

in the Climate Protection Awards from the U.S. Conference of Mayors for its roundabout

program and national runner-up of the Home Depot Awards of Excellence in Community Trees.

Carmel has also been the recipient of the Sterling Tree City Award, honorable mention for

Municipal Excellence from the National League of Cities and has been designated a bronze level

Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists.

Based on surveys using community statistics, Carmel is consistently ranked among the top places

to live for families, singles, children, senior citizens and veterans based on low crime rates, low

cost of living, excellent schools, availability of high paying jobs and appreciation of community

amenities such as arts, culture, parks and recreational opportunities.

Mayor Brainard’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in History from Butler

University and Doctor of Jurisprudence from Ohio Northern University. He also received a

diploma from the Oxford Institute on International and Comparative Law from the University of

San Diego. His book, entitled Carmel, ‘round about right, shares the story of redevelopment in

Carmel during his administration.

Mayor Brainard is serving as a Trustee and Co-chair of the Energy Independence and Climate

Protection Task Force for the U.S. Conference of Mayors. In November of 2013, he was

appointed to the Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience by President Barack

Obama. In 2015, he traveled to four cities in India to represent the United States as part of the

U.S. State Department’s speaker’s bureau. Also, in 2015 he was asked to speak on energy and

climate policy at the German-American Centers in five German cities. In 2016, he was asked to

speak on climate change and urban design in Rome, Italy at the Making Cities Livable

Conference. Additionally, he has been a guest lecturer for Georgetown University, Butler

University, Indiana University and Purdue University among others. He often speaks to city

councils and planning commissions across the United States about city design and development.

The Mayor has served as President of the Butler University Alumni Association, was included in

Butler’s “50 Under 50” in 2004 and has served as a Trustee of the university. He taught as an

Michael Browning

Chairman of the Board

Browning Investments

Okay, this resume could take a while. So to spare your eyeballs undue stress, suffice it to say Michael has done it all. From spearheading developments that have changed the skyline of Indianapolis to building headquarters for some of the nation’s most recognized organizations. Toss in warehouses that have over a million square feet under a single roof and you begin to get the true definition of “been there, done that.”

Mr. Browning is very involved in community activities and has played an active role in the Indianapolis “public-private” partnership. He is the Chairman of Visit Indy, former Chairman of the Indiana Sports Corporation, serves on the Advisory Board of St. Vincent Hospital and Health Care Center, serves on the Indianapolis Indians Board of Directors, is a Board Member of the Indy Public Safety Foundation, a Member of the Indiana Golf Foundation as well as Crossroads Council of Boy Scouts. He previously served on the Board of Educational Choice Charitable Trust, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Mr. Browning served on the Local Organizing Committee for the Super Bowl 2012 as well as the Bid Committee for Super Bowl 2018. Additionally, he serves on the Graduate School Advisory Council and the Advisory Council for the Student-Athlete of the University of Notre Dame. He is a Member of the Board of Directors for Duke Energy Corp.

Michael has been honored as the Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst and Young and Inc. Magazine, Notre Dame Man of the Year and recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash from Governors Bayh, Kernan and Daniels. He received the 2003 Thomas W. Moses Good Scout Award as well the Bishop Chartrand Award by Cathedral High School. He was awarded the Community Service Award by the Catholic Charities Indianapolis. He has an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Marian University and Martin University. Michael was honored with the Charles S. Whistler Award in 2010, and included into the Junior Achievement Hall of Fame, as well as The Indiana Academy in 2011. He was recently inducted into the 2013 Midwest Real Estate Hall of Fame.

Mr. Browning has been actively involved in the emergence of Indianapolis as the Amateur Sports capitol of the world. He is a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Indiana Sports Corporation. He was an organizing member of the 1982 National Sports Festival, a member of the executive committee of the Pan American Games Organizing Committee, served as Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Indiana Sports Corporation from 1989 until February 1993, and is Chairman of the organizing committee for Youthlinks of Indiana. In addition to his involvement in amateur sports, Mr. Browning was the General Chairman of the 1991 PGA National Championships which was held at Crooked Stick Golf Club, where he also served as President for three years. He led the negotiations that resulted in the relocation of the NCAA Headquarters to Indianapolis. Additionally, he was Chairman of the Indiana Sport Corporation’s Solheim Cup Venture and led the negotiations for the 2012 BMW Championship as well as serving on the Executive Committee for the 2016 BMW Championship as part of the PGA Tour’s Fed Ex Cup.

Of course all this pales in comparison to serving in Vietnam and the joy of 19 grandchildren. One of Michael’s favorite quotes, of course, when asked how his day might be going is “hard to be better.”
