Ronan Lyons

Author of the Daft.ie reports

Trinity College Dublin

I am an Assistant Professor of Economics at Trinity College Dublin, where my primary research areas are housing markets, urban economics, and economic history. I am particularly interested in long-run housing markets, in order to better understand current housing experiences such as rapidly increasing housing costs in many high-income cities. You can find out more about my research either here or at my profiles on RePEc or Google Scholar. In addition, I am a Research Associate at the Spatial Economics Research Centre in LSE and author of the Daft.ie Reports on Ireland’s sale and rental housing markets. I am also a Board member of the HEA, Honorary Secretary of SSISI, and on the organising committee of DEW.

I am an active contributor to the policy debate, especially on the topic housing in Ireland. Most of the articles I publish either in my weekly column for the Sunday Independent or as commentaries for the Daft.ie Report are subsequently archived here. I am also engaged by a number of organisations each year, private and public, for public speaking or for bespoke consultancy. If that is of interest, please contact me. Students looking for materials relating to modules I teach should look for the relevant module on mymodule.tcd.ie.

With the Trinity Online Education team, I also run an online course in the Economics of the Property Market. The course is aimed both at professionals, including policymakers, who work day-to-day with housing but who may not have the economics background, and at the general public.

InHouse Health and Fitness

I am passionate about fostering connections and championing the importance of health and fitness. Turning these passions into a thriving career, I founded InHouse H&F in 2018. Since then, my team and I have been pioneers in cultivating vibrant communities within PRS Developments.

As the PRS market experiences rapid growth in Dublin and globally, InHouse H&F is at the cutting edge, dedicated to shaping strong, healthy communities. We are energized and optimistic about the opportunities ahead, committed to navigating this dynamic market and making a lasting impact in the years to come.

Why You Can't Miss This Conference

What You'll Learn:

  • Where does PRS sit as an offering in the consumer’s and government’s eyes? Are there any negative connotations, and what are owners and developers actively doing to change this?

  • How do today's owners and developers drive affordability through development and design without compromising the standard of living?

  • With interest rates and rising construction costs, how do investors view Ireland's housing sector?

  • What are the central development and design strategies for incorporating student well-being and creating the best spaces?

  • What interventions are needed to support delivery from policy?

How You'll Do More Business: Facing bad press, government intervention, climbing construction costs and volatile interest rates, Ireland's housing market continues to be a challenging asset class to navigate. According to Knight Frank, a total of 58,000 housing/living sector units are required per annum out to 2027, as well as almost 4,000 student beds. But with banks and developers actively walking away from deals based on the pressures of financing and building successfully, it is clear that there is a need for a major increase in product – and ease in facilitating such deals to continue to build. Join Bisnow and Ireland's top residential builders, developers, policymakers and owners as we collectively problem-solve how to build more housing for all in Dublin and beyond effectively.

Who You'll Meet: Dublin's top owners, developers, investors, operators, and policymakers creating more housing opportunities for Ireland's residents
