Josh Maddox is a native of Southeastern Michigan. Josh studied architecture at

Lawrence Technological University and received his Master of Architecture Degree at

Pratt Institute in Brooklyn NY. After returning to Detroit, Josh worked at SmithGroup as a

designer and project architect before joining 4545 Architecture. Throughout his career,

Josh has delivered projects ranging from single family homes, higher education

buildings, and high-rise towers. As a designer, Josh’s interests are centered in how new

architecture can be integrated into existing neighborhood contexts and how to

strengthen the relationships between the projects and the community. In his own

community, Josh is an avid cyclist, and in 2014 co-founded WRENCH Detroit, an

organization that provides free bicycle maintenance and repair services to children in

Detroit neighborhoods. After spending over a decade renovating and living in a 1912

rowhouse in Detroit’s historic Woodbridge neighborhood, Josh and his family recently

completed a new-construction home in Detroit’s North End. Josh brings this lived

experience to all of his projects.
