Scott Stewart is the Founder and Managing Partner of Capitol Seniors Housing (CSH), a national seniors housing investment firm. CSH is a joint venture partner with one of the largest university endowments in the United States, and in 2013 became the first partner in the endowment’s direct investment business to recognize the sale of a portfolio of assets. CSH also partners with The Carlyle Group (Carlyle), one of the world’s largest private equity groups with $185.0 billion under management. Both CSH and Carlyle are headquartered in Washington, D.C.

CSH was formed in the fall of 2003 with a mission to opportunistically acquire, develop and own independent living, assisted living and continuum of care retirement communities (CCRCs) in major U.S. markets. CSH utilizes third party operators to manage the facilities on a fee or joint venture basis.

To date, the company has amassed a nationwide portfolio of more than 50 assets valued at more than $1.0 billion. CSH has also realized a combined gross profit of $335 million for its investors with the timely sale of certain assets within a seven year period. This track record has enabled the company to post an overall portfolio IRR in excess of 52%.

Prior to forming CSH, Mr. Stewart ran the Acquisitions Group for Sunrise Senior Living, one of the country’s premier seniors housing service providers. Before that, he headed up the acquisitions, development and construction efforts for Homestead Village, Security Capital Group’s extended-stay hotel company. Throughout his career, Stewart has been a featured speaker at industry events, most recently with the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care (NIC) and InterFace Seniors Housing Business.

Mr. Stewart is currently an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University, teaching the class “Multifamily, Affordable & Seniors Housing” (MPRE 709-40) for the university’s Masters in Real Estate Program. Active in the community, he is also a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and serves on the boards of the American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA) and Hopecam, a nonprofit organization that uses technology to connect children undergoing cancer treatment with their classmates. In 2013, he founded Seniors4Seniors, a scholarship program that rewards college-bound high school seniors who have demonstrated active, consistent and dedicated involvement in their local seniors housing communities.

Mr. Stewart earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts and a BBA from The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Jason Brown is the President of Dallas City Homes, an impact nonprofit organization

focused on preserving housing affordability. In its 30 year history, Dallas City homes

has acquired and developed over 2,400 rental units in the most distressed areas of

Dallas, and turned them into safe, vibrant rental communities. Dallas City Homes has

also participated in the development or renovation in more than 350 single family

homes.

Jason is a veteran in the commercial real estate space. He is experienced in working

with privately held real estate investment trusts, developers, and municipalities. He has

closed more than $150 million in commercial and residential transaction volume.

Jason is active in the community. He has worked with the International Council of

Shopping Centers, The Real Estate Council, and D Magazine’s D Academy. He also

sits on the Board of Directors of Fair Park First, an organization responsible for the

redevelopment of Fair Park.

Jim Lloyd is a member of Winstead’s Real Estate Development & Investments Practice Group and regularly advises U.S. and international clients on sophisticated commercial real estate transactions and financings. Jim negotiates real estate purchase and sale agreements, joint venture transactional and documentation for land, office, retail, multifamily, industrial and mixed-use developments and properties. He also regularly advises landlords and tenants on leases, workouts, evictions and remedies. Jim also represents lenders and borrowers in all aspects of real estate finance, including acquisition, construction, subscription, mezzanine and permanent loans. His extensive experience in distressed assets includes debt and equity workouts, foreclosures, receiverships and REO property sales.

With an impressive career spanning over 20 years, Andres Escobar has become one of architectural design’s most admired and prolific talents. Regularly working with top investors and developers, Andres has always made a point of nurturing long-term client relationships and elevating the vision of every project. Having led hundreds of design projects in New York City, Andres is uniquely attuned to the city’s architectural design vernacular. He has a keen understanding of, and sensitivity to, the specific needs of each site, approaching design at the neighborhood - and often down to the block - level. Andres is behind the design of several senior community projects including Watermark at Brooklyn Heights, Watermark at Merrick Park - Coral Gable and Watermark at West Palm Beach.

As a volunteer leader in Dallas for more than 25 years, Lynn has worked more than 45,000

hours of service for more than 30 different non-profit groups. Lynn’s work has made a

difference on tough issues like improving education, serving homeless, protecting children,

fighting domestic violence and helping underserved students succeed in college. As a deeply

engaged civic leader, Lynn has learned how to bring different stakeholders to the table, find

common ground and solutions, and get everyone moving in a productive manner that gets

results.

As a biochemistry grad from the University of Texas in the early 90’s, Lynn was an early hire of

New England Biolabs, where she worked as a research scientist and later created partnerships

to grow the company. Today, NEB is the world leader in genomic research and employs more

than 500, and Lynn still serves as a manager and employee owner.

Lynn has served more than six years as CEO of Young Women’s Preparatory Network, a public-

private partnership that creates STEM-focused schools of choice in an all-girls setting. To date,

YWPN grads have a 100% college acceptance rate – many of them first generation college

goers. Over six years as CEO, Lynn has grown revenues 300% and gained a deep understanding

of how to partner with ISDs to improve student achievement.

Lynn is best known for her leadership roles in the Dallas community and for her philanthropic

endeavors. Currently, she is Chairman of the Board of The Family Place Foundation; Chairman

Emeritus and Life Member of the Board of the Visiting Nurse Association; Co-Chair of the

Coalition for a New Dallas; Co-Chair of For Oak Cliff: Co-Chair of Oakland Cemetery; AT&T

of Dallas and former Ball Chairman of the Cattle Baron’s Ball.

A native of Freeport, Texas, Lynn was raised by parents who believed in the power of

education. Through her years in public school, at the University of Texas and throughout her

career in biotech and as a CEO, Lynn’s has kept true to her guiding principles of life-long

learning, valuing honesty and integrity, and always finding ways to help others. She has been

married to her husband Allan for 20 years. Lynn and her husband, Allan, live in the Turtle Creek

area of Dallas.

Charles is a Managing Director specializing in seniors housing, based in the Dallas office of JLL Capital Markets, Americas. He’s involved in sourcing capital for seniors housing projects (equity and debt), and in the sale of seniors housing assets ranging from age-restricted apartments to entrance-fee CCRCs. He also provides a wide variety of advisory services for clients seeking insights into the seniors housing market.

Charles has been involved in commercial real estate since 1986. Prior to joining JLL, he was an owner of one of the founding companies of Integra Realty Resources, which grew into a national valuation and consulting company with more than 60 offices. He started and led IRR’s seniors housing and healthcare practice and served on the national board of directors.

Charles was also co-founder and co-manager of the ARA National Seniors Housing Group from its formation in 2008 until the successful sale of the group in 2014. During that period, the group completed over $1.0 billion of investment sales. Charles is a frequent speaker and panelist at seniors housing conferences.

As the Founder of Basharkhah Engineering, Inc., Sam Basharkhah is involved, not only in the day to day operation of the company, but also in the design and production phases of nearly every project.

Mr. Basharkhah is a registered Professional Engineer with over 40 years of experience in the fields of consulting engineering and mechanical contracting. His extensive hands-on experience gives BEI an edge; specifically in renovation projects requiring survey of existing conditions, in cost estimating, and in construction administration. A list of their recent projects includes the renovation of the historic Statler Hilton Hotel in Downtown Dallas and numerous other health care, residential, commercial office and retail, educational, correctional, municipal, high tech, and food service.

Mr. Basharkhah is a graduate of Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
