Wendy Stevens

EVP

First Hospitality Group

Work Smart:

What does success look like? According to Executive Vice President, Wendy Stevens, to be successful at

First Hospitality Group one must make sure that they are adding value. "Focus on the priorities and

don't get caught up in the minutia. Commit to what you say you're going to execute and get it done." In

her role, Ms. Stevens is responsible for developing and executing company strategy at a high level,

pinpointing valuable business opportunities, and scouting out the best of the best for our workforce.

Disciplined and determined in her approach, every challenge that comes across her desk is met with a

sense of urgency that guarantees results.

Wendy was exposed the world of hospitality from early on in her youth, becoming increasingly familiar

with back-of- house operations as her mother lived and worked in a hotel. Despite her varied focuses in

school, ranging from political science to fashion merchandising, it was the time spent working guest

service in a front office during college that would ultimately shape her career path. Over time, she

worked her way up through the sales department until, naturally, she was at the head of the team as

General Manager and driving impressive results. Despite her best efforts to stay away, Stevens says "In

the field of hospitality, you either love it or you hate; I just happened to love it."

Since then, she has continued to evolve in various corporate sales and operations roles until she was

welcomed into First Hospitality Group in 2001. Over the course of her previous positions, she took part

in the integration of two smaller hospitality companies and had the opportunity to try her hand in

consulting. In these roles, her experience was extended to evaluating the sales of properties like the

Hyatt Grand Cayman and the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham, MI. Ms. Stevens has truly seen hotels

from every angle, from a suburban 80 room select service to a 500 room downtown convention center -

her wealth of experience, giving her the knowledge and first-hand understanding necessary to excel in

her collaboration with people at all levels.

Have Fun:

When she's not working with the brands to forge strong partnerships or sitting on civic committees as

a representative of First Hospitality Group, you may find Wendy on the back of her Harley, flying down a

zip-line, or scaling the side of a cliff. In her personal life just as in her professional life, she takes risks,

moves quickly, and is fully committed to everything that she approaches. In both capacities, she pushes

the limits of herself and those tenacious enough to keep up with her.

Make a Difference:

Wendy's methods have proven successful time and again over her 14 years with First Hospitality Group,

but the accomplishment with which she is most proud is the assemblage of her team of innovative

leaders. "When I first started, we had 17 hotels in our portfolio and there were only three sales people,

including myself, to work with them." Since then, First Hospitality Group's portfolio has more than

tripled; departments dedicated to marketing and revenue management have been developed to offer

more holistic and dedicated support, and a total sales department of 3 grew to a team of more than 20.

She attributes her success to the singular idea that, "There is nothing that you can't do; the only limits

that we have, we set for ourselves."

Summary

A new culture of ride-sharing/apt-sharing/all-sharing economies are shaking up traditional hospitality, and the outcomes are mixed: some well-known hotel brands are struggling to maintain their brand loyalty, while others are prospering and continuing to expand. Like any shift to a status quo, innovation is key to success.

This year, we're looking at every angle of new-age hospitality from Chicago's premier owners, investors and hospitality executives. We'll be delving into new developments, branded vs. non-branded hotels, how to cultivate experience & maintain customer loyalty, investment challenges, trends in construction & design and more. As always, there will be plenty of opportunities to network with the best in the industry!
