Bell Works
Bell Works Chicagoland is the former home of the AT&T headquarters, a 150-acre corporate campus located in Hoffman Estates, IL and Chicagoland’s first ‘metroburb’ — a self-contained metropolis in suburbia. Originally built in 1990 as the Ameritech Center, Inspired by Somerset Development is transforming the 1.65-million-square-foot space into a central destination complete with offices, ground-floor retail, dining, residences, community gathering spaces, and more. The transformation will turn a vacant corporate campus into a thriving ‘Main Street’ that serves Hoffman Estates and the surrounding communities. Dirk Lohan, FAIA - who helped design the original Ameritech Center - returns to the project with design firm Wight & Company and NPZ studio+, who led the reimagining of the Bell Works New Jersey Metroburb.

Why This Matters
What You'll Learn:
As office demand shrinks and buildings sit vacant, how are developers reimagining these properties to fit modern needs?
What submarkets and assets are ripe for conversions — and how do owners, architects, and GCs weigh whether a building is worth pivoting, versus tearing down and building net-new?
What are the best practices for converting buildings, and what incentives is the city of Chicago offering to owners and developers to help them pivot their assets?
How can investors get the best ROI when redeveloping a building?
What factors — be it sustainability, historic preservation, and more — are factors when considering a conversion?
How You'll Do More Business:
As the City of Chicago unrolls a massive plan to convert underutilized but historic office buildings into multifamily and mixed-use developments, reconversions have become a hotter topic than ever. Owners are now looking at new ways to turn their old properties into useable, and sellable, spaces. But what do Chicago's top developers, investors and owners think about this practice? Enhance your business by gaining insight into upcoming adaptive reuse developments, design and preservation considerations and investment opportunities. Join us and the region's top players as we dive deep into the market and the trends impacting its growth.
Who Attends:
