As co-managing partner, Michael is responsible for the company's vision, strategic partnerships, and investment decisions. He has 20 years of owning and managing various successful real estate and investment and development companies, investing over $1B in multi-family and student housing projects, consisting of approximately 7,000 apartment units across the country. Michael has a passion for creating second-to-none experiences with everyone he encounters. Because of this passion, he remains involved in the design and operational strategies of all of Alta Terra's projects.

Prior to founding Alta Terra Real Estate, Michael co-founded, and was the President of Homestead Development Partners where he led the team in developing over 2,100 beds. Prior to Homestead and other recent entrepreneurial real estate ventures, he spent 8 1/2 years with The Bainbridge Companies in Florida. With Bainbridge, Michael was responsible for managing the company's multifamily developments, as the company expanded outside of Florida, and helped start the company's student housing division. Michael attributes his tenure Homestead and Bainbridge, and all the close relationships made during this time, as one of his crucial stepping-stones to becoming a real estate entrepreneur.

Michael loves to spend time with his family, especially traveling to amazing destinations. He is also a health and wellness enthusiast, loves the outdoors, and craves extreme fitness. Michael believes in transparency, accountability, and takes great care with everything he does.

Michael obtained his B.S. in Finance in 2000, and his M.S. in Real Estate in 2005, both from the University of Florida. Michael has been a serial entrepreneur, starting and operating multiple businesses in various industries, ranging from hospitality, insurance, education, and real estate.

Dan Gockley serves as the Executive Director of Housing and Residence Life at The University

of Texas at San Antonio. Dan is an experienced professional with over twenty years of

progressive experience in housing and residence life, student affairs, student success, facilities

management and fiscal operations. Dan is highly collaborative with success implementing

innovative solutions and best practices that drive success. He nurtures and develops highly

talented teams committed to achieving success. Dan has experience in facilities management,

renovations and new construction. Dan earned both his Bachelor and Master degrees from the

University of Kentucky.

Dan began his professional career in 1998 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County as a

Coordinator of Environment. UMBC is an honor’s university that integrates teaching, research

and service. In 2001, he joined Ithaca College as the Assistant Director of Operations. Ithaca

College is a comprehensive private residential college with a three-year residency requirement.

As Assistant Director, Dan was responsible for the operational management of 4,300 beds within

26 residence halls and two apartment complexes. Dan helped commission a new privatized

apartment complex in two phases. In 2005, Dan accepted the position of Director of Housing and

Residence Life at Fairmont State University. In that role, Dan reorganized the department’s

staffing structure to achieve student success priorities. He expanded the residential learning

community structure including the creation of a faculty-in-residence position for the Honor’s

program. In addition, Dan updated the housing software and initiated a master planning process

for the department that led to the construction of new housing for the campus. In 2013, Dan

joined UTSA as the Director of Housing and Residence Life. Dan guided the opening of a new

residence hall in 2013, successfully planned and opened a new residence hall in 2021 and is

currently planning another residence hall project. During his tenure, UTSA’s housing capacity

will have increased by 2,200 beds.

Dan has been active as a member of both regional and national professional housing

organizations including the Northeast Association of College & University Housing Officers

(NEACUHO), the Mid-Atlantic Association of College & University Housing Officers

(MACUHO), the Southwest Association of College & University Housing Officers

(SWACUHO), and the Association of College & University Housing Officers- International

(ACUHO-I). Dan served as the Exhibits Chair for four years within the MACUHO organization

and was President elect for MACUHO before joining UTSA in 2013. Dan has presented at the

regional and national level on topics such as supporting at-risk students, reducing homesickness

and student retention and success.

Jonathan serves as the Executive Vice President of Acquisitions and Management Services for Landmark Properties. With 20 years of experience in student housing and college student services, He serves as the liaison for both new third-party clients and Landmark acquisitions as they join the Landmark-managed portfolio. He also provides coordination and oversight of Landmark’s consulting services. His experience includes numerous institutional-grade studies for clients which spanned operational assessment, market assessment, feasibility analysis, and due diligence for acquisitions.

Jonathan began his career in on-campus residence life, and then spent 8 years working in operations, consulting and business development roles with expanding responsibility at Campus Advantage, Inc. In 2014, Jonathan was the on-site project manager for a six-month engagement at Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok, Russia, coordinating efforts to launch or improve residence life, student services, dormitory management and campus branding. Before being promoted to grow business development and consulting efforts, He served as National Director of Residence Life, training student staff, transitioning new properties and developing management systems for operations. He currently oversees Landmark’s Residence Life and Customer Service platform.

Jonathan holds a M.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from the University of Vermont. He completed his undergraduate studies in communication at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). He’s an avid reader, cook, and Peloton rider. He resides in Austin, Texas along with his wife Anna, a senior PR professional focused on the Technology sector and their two daughters Hollis and Willa.

A Principal, Senior Vice President, and Studio Practice Leader for Education in the Austin office

of HKS Architects & Designers, Andy Albin has over 30 years of experience working in the

architecture and engineering industries. Andy received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from

the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Architecture degree from Rice University, and an

Executive MBA from UT Austin. His experience is predominantly in the higher education market

sector, with an emphasis on academic, student life, health education, and campus planning

projects for large-scale public institutions. Andy has experience working for Texas A&M,

University of Texas, University of Houston, Texas State, and Texas Tech Systems. He has

participated in and presented at regional and national higher education conferences for over a

decade. Andy has also taught and/or lectured at The University of Texas at Austin, Rice

University, and the University of Oklahoma. Andy was recently honored to receive the Tom

Penett Award for years of faithful participation with the Southwest Association of College &

University Housing Officers (SWACUHO).

Trae is passionate about serving clients who strengthen the community. He is an experienced builder of healthcare, private and charter K-12, higher education, and cultural & performing arts facilities. Trae’s focus is serving clients in the Central Texas region from pre-construction through occupancy. He has 15 years of experience in the construction industry, with 12 of those years working with Linbeck Group, LLC. Trae started his career as a project engineer and is now a vice president leading a team in the Central Texas region. He has led major projects in the Austin and Houston markets, including serving MD Anderson for 6 years on a variety of projects - from valve replacements under a JOC agreement to 600,000 SF buildouts in Design-Build deliveries. In Austin, he has worked with specialized clients, including radio compounding pharmacies, as well as complex imaging equipment upgrades. Outside of work, Trae enjoys chasing around his two young daughters and tooling around town in his vintage Mercedes.

As President of Student Housing for LV Collective, Jonathan is tasked with providing his leadership in defining and executing the firm’s student housing strategy. Jonathan also focuses on capital markets, corporate initiatives, operations and asset management.

Jonathan has worked in the student housing and multifamily industries for over a decade. Prior to LV, Jonathan served as Director of Acquisitions for Nimes Real Estate, a California-based family office, leading the firm’s student housing acquisitions. Previously, he worked as Vice President of Acquisitions for Harrison Street, a real estate investment management firm, where he led sourcing and acquisition for student housing and multifamily assets. During his tenure with Harrison Street Jonathan led over 38 transactions totaling over two billion.

Jonathan began his career in the industry serving as Director of Capital Markets for American Campus Communities, the nation’s largest publicly traded student housing REIT. Prior to that, Jonathan served as an analyst in the financial institutions group for UBS Investment Bank in New York City.

Jonathan graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Texas A&M University. He and his wife, Brooke, have two sons who loves watching and playing sports with their dad.

Mr. Castillo has over 22-years of experience in commercial real estate and development with another 9-years in architecture. He is also an Architect and a U.S. Army Veteran, plus, holds both a Masters in Business Administration and a Masters in Architecture degrees from Texas Tech University. Throughout Mr. Castillo’s real estate development career, he has led real estate development efforts for multiple build-to-rent, multifamily, and high-rise mixed-use development projects, moreover, he has personally managed over 29+ zoning cases for multiple development projects across the United States.

Before coming to PlaceMKR, Mr. Castillo was the Managing Director for Urban Moment, a Build-to-rent/Single-family-to-rent Texas based development firm with over a $1BN in equity allocated toward BTR/SFR developments. He led the company’s corporate development, partnership, and acquisition strategy. During and prior to his period with Urban Moment, he has been working on BTR/SFR and multifamily development efforts for several years, with numerous communities developed and/or breaking ground. He has an extensive understanding of the BTR/SFR development process and has a versatile background which understands real estate development from multiple points-of-view.

Prior to Urban Moment, Mr. Castillo was the Chief Operating Officer for De La Vega Capital and led the company’s strategy and growth with an emphasis on De La Vega’s national real estate development efforts. Prior to De La Vega, Mr. Castillo was the Senior Vice President for HALL Group and lead the development efforts for HALL; he oversaw real estate endeavors, entitlements, design, and financial oversight for all new ground-up development projects for Dallas, Frisco, and Napa.
