Kevin White, Acquisitions Director – Alternative Multifamily, is responsible for the firm’s multifamily investing efforts including student housing and workforce housing. He is responsible for developing investment strategy, sourcing joint venture partners and investment opportunities, and overseeing all aspects of underwriting, due diligence, investment structuring, closing and disposition. Since joining Virtus in 2011, Kevin has acquired more than $860 million of projects. He holds a B.B.A. in Finance from the Ohio State University and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to joining Virtus, Kevin was the Director of Acquisitions for a privately held real estate investment company. He was responsible for leading an acquisitions team that successfully closed $150 million of commercial real estate in 2 years. He has experience with numerous property types in sourcing, underwriting, due diligence, lender management, closing process, asset management and dispositions. Kevin is the President and one of the founding members of Club Blue of the Austin Area, which is a non-profit that supports the Boys and Girls Club of the Austin Area.

Mrs. Penrod manages development activities from site selection through construction completion. She also is focused on the financial performance and reporting of the company and its investments.

Mrs. Penrod brings over 15 years of development experience to Parallel’s team. Mrs. Penrod co-founded Parallel after the sale of the University House Communities portfolio in 2016. Mrs. Penrod began her career with FirstWorthing in 2006 as an Analyst. When FirstWorthing was acquired by University House Communities (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Inland American Real Estate Investment Trust) in 2008 she continued her real estate development career and became Vice President of Development. While at University House Communities, Mrs. Penrod led the completion of 7,500 beds with total development costs in excess of $700 million in 10 states across the United States. She was also a key management team member in the total portfolio development of over 11,000 beds. The projects ranged in size from $16 million to $125 million, and every project was delivered on time and within budget. Most notably, Mrs. Penrod led the delivery of University House Austin which has received numerous design and construction awards including the “Best New Student Housing Development” in 2016 by Student Housing Business Journal.

Mrs. Penrod earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin and is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and a member of ULI’s National Student Housing Council.

Accomplished real estate executive with over nineteen (19) years of diverse development experience on over $2 billion of varying real estate asset product types, including for-sale and rental multi-family, student housing, and senior housing/skilled nursing facilities. Extensive knowledge of all phases of real estate development and well versed in development oversight. In addition, over eleven (11) years of architectural experience on large profile design-build projects. A proven leader with strong work ethic, and excellent organizational and communication skills.

Dan Gockley serves as the Executive Director of Housing and Residence Life at The University

of Texas at San Antonio. Dan is an experienced professional with over twenty years of

progressive experience in housing and residence life, student affairs, student success, facilities

management and fiscal operations. Dan is highly collaborative with success implementing

innovative solutions and best practices that drive success. He nurtures and develops highly

talented teams committed to achieving success. Dan has experience in facilities management,

renovations and new construction. Dan earned both his Bachelor and Master degrees from the

University of Kentucky.

Dan began his professional career in 1998 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County as a

Coordinator of Environment. UMBC is an honor’s university that integrates teaching, research

and service. In 2001, he joined Ithaca College as the Assistant Director of Operations. Ithaca

College is a comprehensive private residential college with a three-year residency requirement.

As Assistant Director, Dan was responsible for the operational management of 4,300 beds within

26 residence halls and two apartment complexes. Dan helped commission a new privatized

apartment complex in two phases. In 2005, Dan accepted the position of Director of Housing and

Residence Life at Fairmont State University. In that role, Dan reorganized the department’s

staffing structure to achieve student success priorities. He expanded the residential learning

community structure including the creation of a faculty-in-residence position for the Honor’s

program. In addition, Dan updated the housing software and initiated a master planning process

for the department that led to the construction of new housing for the campus. In 2013, Dan

joined UTSA as the Director of Housing and Residence Life. Dan guided the opening of a new

residence hall in 2013, successfully planned and opened a new residence hall in 2021 and is

currently planning another residence hall project. During his tenure, UTSA’s housing capacity

will have increased by 2,200 beds.

Dan has been active as a member of both regional and national professional housing

organizations including the Northeast Association of College & University Housing Officers

(NEACUHO), the Mid-Atlantic Association of College & University Housing Officers

(MACUHO), the Southwest Association of College & University Housing Officers

(SWACUHO), and the Association of College & University Housing Officers- International

(ACUHO-I). Dan served as the Exhibits Chair for four years within the MACUHO organization

and was President elect for MACUHO before joining UTSA in 2013. Dan has presented at the

regional and national level on topics such as supporting at-risk students, reducing homesickness

and student retention and success.

A principal in the Austin office of Page Southerland Page, Andy Albin has over 30 years of experience working in the architecture and engineering industries. Andy received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Architecture degree from Rice University, and an Executive MBA from UT Austin. His experience is predominantly in the higher education market sector, with an emphasis on academic, student life, and campus planning projects for large scale public institutions. He has participated in and presented at regional and national student housing conferences for over a decade. Andy has also taught and/or lectured at The University of Texas at Austin, Rice University, and the University of Oklahoma.

Ryan Lang, vice chairman and head of Newmark Student Housing, spearheads best-in-class

investment sales, capital markets and advisory services on behalf of the firm’s clients. He has

represented many of the largest global institutional, public and private real estate companies and has

completed over $23 billion in real estate transactions.

Prior to joining Newmark, Ryan was vice president at CBRE, co-leading their national student

housing platform to number one market share in 2013 and 2014. Before that, Ryan was director of

multifamily investments for Stirling Properties where he specialized in the sale of conventional and

student housing assets. While there, he was recognized as the top investment sales broker at Stirling

Properties for both 2011 and 2012. Ryan began his real estate career in New York City at Marcus &

Millichap where he gained experience in seller representation, acquisitions, and investment

underwriting. During his first year there, his investment team was recognized as the number one top-

earning team in the office. While at Newmark, Ryan has led their student housing platform to number

one market share position in the country.

Ryan was named to the Newmark Chairman’s Circle in recognition of being one of the top

producing brokers in the company and he regularly speaks at acclaimed real estate events throughout

North America and Europe. Ryan has been featured in the Wall Street Journal and on National Public

Radio for his expertise and leadership within the sector.

In 2022, Ryan was honored as an Austin Under 40 award recipient. He serves on the board of

directors of the National Brain Tumor Society, the largest non-profit brain cancer organization in the

world. He is also on the advisory board of the University of Florida’s Real Estate School and serves on

Newmark’s Capital Markets Executive Committee. Ryan is consistently one of the company’s top

producers and was the number one MCM producer at Newmark in 2022. He graduated from the

University of Florida, with a BSBA and majoring in marketing.

Jonathan serves as the Executive Vice President of Acquisitions and Management Services for Landmark Properties. With 20 years of experience in student housing and college student services, He serves as the liaison for both new third-party clients and Landmark acquisitions as they join the Landmark-managed portfolio. He also provides coordination and oversight of Landmark’s consulting services. His experience includes numerous institutional-grade studies for clients which spanned operational assessment, market assessment, feasibility analysis, and due diligence for acquisitions.

Jonathan began his career in on-campus residence life, and then spent 8 years working in operations, consulting and business development roles with expanding responsibility at Campus Advantage, Inc. In 2014, Jonathan was the on-site project manager for a six-month engagement at Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok, Russia, coordinating efforts to launch or improve residence life, student services, dormitory management and campus branding. Before being promoted to grow business development and consulting efforts, He served as National Director of Residence Life, training student staff, transitioning new properties and developing management systems for operations. He currently oversees Landmark’s Residence Life and Customer Service platform.

Jonathan holds a M.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from the University of Vermont. He completed his undergraduate studies in communication at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). He’s an avid reader, cook, and Peloton rider. He resides in Austin, Texas along with his wife Anna, a senior PR professional focused on the Technology sector and their two daughters Hollis and Willa.

Dr. Mylon Kirksy is the Assistant Vice President of Residence Life. He has over 20 years of professional experience in higher education working in a variety of student affairs areas. His areas of expertise are in organizational leadership, student and staff development, research and intercultural competency development.

Mylon holds a bachelor of science in political science and public relations from Illinois State University, a master of communication and information studies in organizational communication from Rutgers University and a doctor of education in higher education leadership and administration from the University of the Pacific.

Mylon also serves as an assistant professor of practice in the College of Education and in the College of Liberal Arts.

An Austin native, Claire brings 23 years of multifamily, hospitality, student housing and restaurant interior design experience to StudioSIX5. She is well-versed in many areas of design, including space planning, FF&E selections, finish selections, specifications, purchasing and expediting, project management and client relations. Claire is a member of the University of Texas Fine Arts Advisory Council.

Chris has been with Sixthriver since the firm’s inception in 1994 and has served as Vice President of the firm since 2001. Chris is an expert in tenant programming, space planning and assists clients in negotiating functional and efficient layouts for office and community spaces. He acts also as a project manager for numerous clients and assists them throughout their projects and endeavors. He has been involved in the planning, design and construction of over 20,000,000 square feet of commercial and institutional spaces in the Austin metropolitan area, throughout Texas and the nation. His experience and firsthand knowledge of buildings, tenant/ landlord negotiations, lease and properties throughout the area provides an intimate understanding of the opportunities that a potential investment or lease could possess. Chris is a sixth generation Austinite and a graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Environmental Design.
