Square Feet Studio

Holden Spaht is the Creative Director at Atlanta-based architecture, design, and planning firm Square

Feet Studio. The firm’s work is rooted in a belief that opportunities for meaningful design are discovered

through thoughtful inquiry and critical engagement with the given conditions present in any project.

Together with their clients, local artists, craftsmen, and builders, Square Feet Studio strives to create

meaningful design responses that bridge multiple scales, from the human to the urban, and link past,

present, and future in ways practical and poetic. Holden’s background and work spans the disciplines of

urban design, architecture, and interior design with a special focus on adaptive reuse. He has led many

the firm’s adaptive reuse projects in Atlanta and throughout the Southeast. He holds master’s degrees in

both architecture and city and regional planning from Georgia Tech as well as a bachelor’s degree in

history from the University of Georgia.

Summary

  • What benefits does adaptive reuse offer an investor, equity partner, or developer compared to a traditional ground-up development?

  • What Atlanta neighborhoods are the current focus of investment and redevelopment?

  • Who are the major players participating in preservation, restoration, and adaptive reuse in Atlanta?

  • What asset classes tend to work best for adaptive reuse?

  • How will adaptive reuse properties fare in a post-pandemic world?
