The merger will be healthcare's largest of 2022, according to the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news.

Amgen is based in Thousand Oaks, California. Horizon is headquartered in Dublin, with offices in Deerfield, a new facility in Rockville, Maryland, and a presence across four continents.

Once the deal is finalized, the combined headquarters for the group will be in Thousand Oaks, according to a release from Amgen, leaving the fate of the Deerfield property in doubt.

Horizon’s 650K SF Deerfield office houses 600 of Horizon’s 2,000 employees. A Horizon representative declined to comment on the future of that space, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Horizon purchased the three-building campus from Takeda Pharmaceuticals in February 2020 for $115M, relocating from Lake Forest, Patch reported. Just renovated in 2021, it includes amenities like a Starbucks coffee shop, fitness center, game lounge, outdoor terrace and full-service cafeteria.

Horizon announced $925.4M in net sales in its third-quarter earnings report, with $490.9M in net sales for Tepezza, which treats thyroid eye disease, and $191.6M for Krystexxa, which treats chronic gout. Amgen reported that its Q3 revenue was $6.7B.
