Milwaukee Avenue Bridge Fully Suspended for Much-Anticipated 606 Project

Chicago

The 606 park and trail project has taken another step forward, removing the Milwaukee Avenue bridge's center piers and adding suspension arches over the bridge. This raises the bridge, providing greater clearance for trucks, while the removal of the center and side piers allows for easier traffic flow. Next up, the center pier concrete barriers will be removed and the road under the bridge will be repaved, DNAinfo reports. The massive $95M 606 project will have six ground-level parks connected by an elevated 2.7-mile Bloomingdale Trail. The Bloomingdale Trail will open on June 6, to a day of festivities, including performances and art. There will also be an "Above the Rails" gala fundraiser the night before. [DNAinfo]
