SelectLeaders' Client Seeks Controller at Vertically Integrated NYC Multifamily Firm

The firm has built a multi-dimensional platform in the NYC multifamily market spanning property management, construction management, acquisitions, lending and proprietary data analytics. With a portfolio of more than 50 multifamily buildings and plans to add 250+ units this year, the company partners with major institutional investors across a range of asset types including luxury Class A, affordable and rent-stabilized properties throughout the five boroughs. The firm is a high-growth operation with ambitions to centrally manage 2,000+ units as its platform continues to scale.
This is a senior operational accounting leadership role for a hands-on Controller with deep multifamily experience, strong Yardi expertise and a proven track record managing remote and offshore accounting teams. The Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting operations across a growing portfolio of entities, ensure accuracy and efficiency across all financial reporting processes and play a key role in scaling accounting infrastructure to match the firm's expansion.
Key Responsibilities of this role include:
- Lead monthly, quarterly and annual close processes across multiple multifamily properties and entities
- Review, approve and independently sign off on property-level financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Oversee delivery of 40+ monthly financial packages by established reporting deadlines
- Manage reconciliations including bank accounts, security deposits, taxes and intercompany accounts
- Oversee A/P, A/R, cash management and treasury-related processes
- Coordinate audits, tax filings and lender reporting requirements
- Manage and mentor a team of remote and offshore property accountants and accounting support staff
- Assist with onboarding newly acquired assets including opening balance sheets, accrual setup and bank account coordination
- Serve as system lead and subject matter expert for Yardi
- Oversee preparation and review of NYC regulatory filings including TC and RPIE
This role will be a fit for you if you bring 8+ years of real estate accounting experience with a strong multifamily focus, have managed large portfolios across multiple entities and are comfortable leading remote or offshore teams in a fast-paced environment. A CPA designation is preferred, and candidates with advanced Yardi and Excel proficiency and direct experience with NYC regulatory filings will be strongly positioned. A base salary of $150,000 to $200,000 plus bonus is on offer, along with a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid time off, sick leave and paid holidays.
