Sponsor Update: Our friends at ProLogis have started site work on the 260k SF Phase III of the ProLogis Park Gateway in Dulles.  The project delivers in mid-‘08.

Last night’s 21st Annual "Best of Northern Virginia NAIOP" awards gala at the Tysons Ritz may have been black tie but it was white hot with over 650 wall-to-wall guests and 26 awards.

George Mason president Alan Merten, left, with Billie Lee and husband Eric Wells, WestDulles Properties CEO and current NAIOP Chair.  The night’s biggest news:  NAIOP pledged $1.1m to Mason’s soon-to-debut Center for Real Estate Entrepreneurship, and hopes eventually to hook them up with “way over $2 million,” Eric says.  (Eric’s a busy guy:  Look for the opening this spring of “The Presidential” golf course and club, which he’s masterminding, near Waxpool and Route 28.)

Peterson Companies' Jon Peterson, with HITT prez Brett Hitt, told us his “to do” this week on a certain project of his south of the Wilson Bridge was stenciling some really large letters on the piers so you won’t be able to miss N-A-T-I-O-N-A-L  H-A-R-B-O-R spelled out every time you fly into Reagan National

ING’s main man Marc DeLuca is bordered by Crimson Partners’ Christian Chambers and ING’s Barron Williams.  Marc had good reason to smile:  Not only did he close his “toughest deal ever” yesterday (the Kettler complex in Pentagon City for $135M) but ING also took home the award for Firm of the Year in recognition of its big contributions to NAIOP.

NAIOP King and Queen:  Former local and National NAIOP Chair Marty Irving with Beers & Cutler’s Barbara Shaefer McDuffie, first female NAIOP chair in 1997 who they still keep pressing into service—last night’s emcee.

Masterbuilt’s Rob Seidel, Larsen Commercial’s Mark Larsen, Brandywine’s Janet Davis, and Staubach’s Robb Johnson.  Robb J’s looking pretty tough in this picture, so it’s not surprising his two vices are motorcycles and red wine (though not together). The other Rob, not to be outdone, revealed that he’s been taking Tae Kwon Do since 1978 and is a black belt.

Bognet Construction’s Jennifer Bognet, Fox Architects’ Bob Fox, and Cassidy Pinkard’s Adrian Conforti.

Perkins + Will’s Rusty Meadows, Group Goetz’s Lewis Goetz, and Forrester Construction’s Scott Forrester.  Rusty’s looking forward to a stop-over in Morocco before his next trip to Dubai while Lewis is planning a half-business/half-fun trip to Shanghai and Hong Kong.   Scott tells us Forrester is opening another office but the only clue he’d give is that it’s within 100 miles of DC.  That really narrows it.

Vornado’s Joanna Burroughs, Duke Realty’s Scott Rabin and Jennifer Cronin, and Vornado’s Gary Cook.  Vornado walked away with the Best Real Estate Transaction Building award for BNA’s 277K SF space.

Monument’s Doug Olson, Herman Miller’s Lisa Scala, Cassidy’s Spencer Stouffer, and Grubb & Ellis’ Norman Corkhill.  Norman told us that though he’s busy with a 5 month and 3 year old he’s still working on leasing space for DCP International and M.C. Dean.

We saved the best for last:  NAIOP LOVE!  Waterford Commercial’s Chris Ciliberti and DBI Architects’ Kathryn Ciliberti (Member of the Year winner) show us the exact spot that they met at a NAIOP awards ceremony 7 years ago last night.  Now they’re happily married with a 3 ½ year old son.  And you thought real estate was all business.
