Three Must-Try Food Trucks
The yearning to actually take the lunch break you’re entitled to should be stronger than ever now that nice weather has returned and food trucks are putting their best food forward. Here are three to try for lunch today that typically participate in "Farragut Fridays" in Farragut Square. Food Truck Fiesta can also help you track them down.
Red Hook Lobster Pound
New England transplants can find a taste of home on the Red Hook Lobster Pound truck menu where lobstah rolls and clam chowdah dominate. They offer both Connecticut style (poached in butter) and Maine style (light lemon mayo) lobster rolls alongside Maine Root Soda and Cape Cod Chips for a complete meal.
Carnivore BBQ Truck
No matter what BBQ religion you subscribe to, Carnivore BBQ has your back. Its wood-smoked chicken, pulled pork or brisket can all be topped with homemade BBQ sauces from different regions, including a Memphis tomato-based sauce, mustard sauce and vinegar-based sauce representing Carolina-style ‘cue. Carnivore BBQ has become so popular that there are now four trucks out on the road in our region, plus a bricks-and-mortar spot in Derwood, MD. Pitmaster Stephen Adelson says they’re even working on BBQ breakfast.
Captain Cookie & The Milkman
Save room for dessert from Captain Cookie & The Milkman that will remind you of your childhood. Visit one of its three trucks or new storefront (2000 Pennsylvania Ave NW) to try milk from a local creamery paired with freshly baked cookies (from scratch!) in classic flavors like Nutella, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip. Better yet—build your own ice cream sandwich to beat the heat.
