The expansion of Tysons mixed-use development The Boro is slated to feature a senior housing building.

Silverstone Senior Living filed an application with Fairfax County to build a continuing care facility with 200 senior living units and 53K SF for memory care and assisted living services, Tysons Reporter reported.

The building is planned at the intersection of Westpark Drive and Greensboro Drive. The application says it part of the planned expansion of The Boro along Westpark Drive.

The Meridian Group, the lead developer behind The Boro, filed plans in May to add 1M SF to the development, indicating the expansion would include residential, retail and senior living. The expansion is planned on two sites totaling 14 acres, one of which Meridian acquired in 2018 and the other owned by a Northwestern Mutual affiliate.

The 1.7M SF first phase of The Boro delivered last year and included a 20-story office building, three residential buildings, a movie theater and 250K SF of retail featuring the region's largest Whole Foods. Developers Kettler and Rockefeller Group also partnered on the first phase.

The project is one of several D.C.-area senior living buildings Silverstone has planned, including developments in Alexandria, Fairfax and Rockville. Silverstone President Chris Porter told Bisnow in January he hopes to continue to grow the company's portfolio in the D.C. area.

"It has proven to be a market that is in need of senior housing," Porter said. "A lot of people are doing the same thing that we're doing, but we've been very fortunate to get these three projects underway and started, and hopefully we'll have more in the pipeline very soon."
