Mitre Corp., a nonprofit that operates federally funded research and development centers, has grown significantly over the last decade, and is now planning a major addition to its Tysons campus.

The organization submitted plans with Fairfax County to add five buildings totaling 1.37M SF, more than doubling its 784K SF office park, the Washington Business Journal reports

A Mitre spokesperson told the WBJ it has no immediate plans to construct any of the buildings, but is preparing for potential future growth. The company has over 3,500 employees in Tysons.

The campus sits a short walk from the McLean Silver Line station. Mitre currently has four buildings on the site, with the most recent one opening in November 2016. The plans call for the construction of five new office buildings, and the renovation of one existing building.
